The Man Comes Around
Merry Christmas from big wonderful Wyoming, and a Happy New Year. Special holiday greetings to those who correspond with me throughout the year about remote places, camera gear, family, campers, music or just to BS. And I wish everyone who chooses to follow my stuff all the best in 2015. Let 'er buck!
Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes -
Racing the daylight - Trying to make it to a favorite backcountry campsite before dark, but I have miles of gravel and washboard before I get there.
Unimog - This burly truck rolls through the hot springs, looking all Mad Max-ish, then the owner hops out wearing nothing but a Speedo. Damn son.
Star Wars music set to Christmas lights show
The Eurovan life - A lone VW Eurovan camps in Death Valley. My tribute to Alison Travels, a personal favorite travel blog and Instagram account.
Great Basin sunrise - On the Nevada/Utah state line, a dark morning slowly comes to life and light.
Rolling out - After a perfect week of quiet, solitude and hot springs in the backcountry of Death Valley, I was a little bummed to be on the move. I thought the early morning sunlight on the Inyo Mountains was a fitting farewell.
Sounds of West Coast: "No words, no music needed. Sit back and experience the sights and sounds of a 5 day canoe trip in the Pacific Northwest."
This is really clever and well shot, stirring up feelings and desires to explore with just the familiar sounds of life in camp and on the water. I am inspired.
“You cannot achieve success without the risk of failure. And I learned a long time ago, you cannot achieve success if you fear failure. If you’re not afraid to fail, man you have a chance to succeed. But you’re never gonna get there unless you risk it all the way.”
Paul Heyman, Founder ECW
Art - Desert dwellers apparently have a lot of free time. And they use that free time to weld, glue, tape and staple shit to their old cars. Don't ask me.. It was like "Cars" on some bad acid, and I left Carburetor County as quickly as possible.
The sands of time -
The long haul -
A World War I-themed advertisement for Sainsbury’s, a supermarket chain in the UK. On Christmas Eve 100 years ago, soldiers on both sides laid down their weapons in commemoration of the holidays. It is a powerful remembrance of the true meaning of Christmas.

On a high - Back from 10 days camping deep in Death Valley, including 7 days of being completely disconnected from any cell service or wi-fi, and 4 days that I didn't speak to a soul. It was some kinda wonderful. I only came back because I ran outta water. Oh, and for my family, yeah.
