The Amity Affliction...
Is quite possibly my favorite band of all time. You know how you have bands that are your favorite for a while or who you have a favorite album of and don’t really listen to anything else by them? Yeah, that’s not them. Their lyrics are such that you are thinking about them for days, even weeks after. Their topics aren’t comfortable and they aren’t easy. This makes them just that much more special.
I mean, with lyrics illustrating the struggles with death and suicide and anxiety and depression, one would think that they wouldn’t be an everyday listen. But with each time I listen to their songs, I am dumbstruck by another layer within their lyrics.
I won’t say these are my favorite, because they go so much deeper than just something that you like, but these are the ones that… resonated?
“ If I wake up tomorrow just know that I tried To find a way out without saying goodbye”
-From All Fucked Up
“ So you’re living in a nightmare Well I’m living in one too But I’m trying to prevent the storm From bearing down on you”
-From Nightmare
“ And you think I don’t read every message that you send? You think I turn a blind eye, you think I’m just like them? It breaks my heart, all these stories, brings me to tears all this grief; And I feel so fucking helpless when I can’t be your relief”
-From Don’t Lean on Me
This final one is spoken at the end of O.M.G.I.M.Y which is abbreviated from Oh My God I’m Missing You. It is styled as a voicemail message recording that was left for someone. With a title like that, you know it’s gonna hurt.
“(Message received on August 12th at 3:16am) Hello, its me, again. I know I shouldn’t have called but I really didn’t know who else to turn to. Remember last time we talked? You said we were both fucked up, you said you understood because you were fucked up too. I just, I just wanted to speak to you before - well I think you know what I’m saying. If you’re there please pick up, please. Just for a minute, please. (Message deleted)”
Ouch…
