❛        (        the  beach  was  an  amazing  sight  right  about  now,  the  beauty  of  the  sunset  across  the  horizon  was  this  sight  that  brought  a  sense  of  normalcy  to  stryker.    to  see  a  beauty  like  that  was  everything,  to  see  the  mixture  of  colours  grace  the  sky  and  most  importantly  the  serenity.    he  spends  a  good  part  of  his  life  on  the  beach  because  of  his  profession,  “  you  ever  think  about,  what  if  everything  was  different  ?    what  if  you  weren’t  who  you  are  now  ?    what  if  you  missed  that  one  moment  in  your  life  ?    do  you  ever  think  about  all  the  what  ifs  ?  ”  he  asked,  his  eyes  still  focused  on  the  horizon  with  fingers  digging  into  the  cool  sand.

layla stayed silent for a few seconds, keeping her eyes on the sky and the setting sun as she turned the question over in her mind. “ i guess sometimes. maybe not consciously, though. ” it’s hard not to these days, really. and a number of obvious ‘this is where your life took a huge turn’ moments spring to mind — meeting hunter and his family, as well as the rest of her bandmates included. “ any reason in particular you’re getting all philosophical ? ”

“hey, don’t be mean to me,” hunter sighs in an overly dramatic way to show that he’s just teasing her. they were never really mean to each other .. at least, unwarranted. he doesn’t want to know why she’s been so obsessive over reading thing the past few days. “i can be serious. ‘m serious all the time.” yeah, right. “they’re gonna like it ‘cause we put it out. half our fanbase would probably go to bat for us if we put out the worst song ever. calm down, l.”

layla knows him well enough to know when he’s kidding ( which is more often then not ), and a small smile appears on her face as she rolls her eyes. “oh, you are?” she raised an eyebrow. “i’m not worried about them so much as you know...the whole rest of the world.” but on some level, she knows he’s right. “but i guess they would probably take care of the rest of the world too, wouldn’t they?”

an eyebrow raises at the excitement of his friend and band-mate, eyes moving off the screen of his own phone and onto her device. “i mean .. “ hunter knows compliments come with the territory of celebrity, but then again, he’s never known how to take them well. “what? you don’t think i can be raw and vulnerable?” eyes roll and he hands her her phone back. “this is the fifth article you’ve shown me. what’s with that? you can’t be that interested in what people are sayin’ bout me.” not that much of it is good.

“you can be, when you want to be.” she says, pulling her phone back into her lap and closing the tab to continue fishing for compliments in the twitter results for ‘last call.’ “you’re usually more of a...funny, laid-back type. i’m not used to hearing people call you serious.” not that that’s a bad thing, and whoever wrote the article is definitely right. it’s actually kind of a nice change from the norm. “i’m just keeping up with that people think of what we’re putting out, that’s all.”

     “hunter, look at this.” as if he really has a choice — almost as soon as she says it, she insistently passes him her phone. “‘provost sings "bar liar" with a great deal of heart and soul - he isn’t afraid to be raw and vulnerable.’” she reads out loud from over his shoulder, specifically pointing out the place in the article that compliments him, after reading him half a dozen other reviews on the video since it came out that all said more or less the same thing. “how about that, there’s two words i don’t see to describe you too often.”

❝ Fuller House’s second episode aired last night and I still can’t believe i’m playing Brooklyn again. ❞ the redhead said, a wide smile on her full lips.  “ It brings back so much memories acting with these girls now… it’s crazy to think I was just four when I first got that role.  ”

❝ I watched it with my dad last night. It was good, really cute. ❞ Layla complimented, returning her smile brightly. ❝ He kept going on about how much older everyone is. “oh my god, this party actually just got interesting.” the brunette admitted as she looked around the venue, spotting about a thousand of her favorite childhood heroes. the party had been a bit of a bore when it had first begun, but now it was full of amazing people she was glad to call her role models. “i mean, is that THE chris evans? i think i’m gonna cry.”

“just wait until you see someone walk up to him and start talking with him like they’re talking to their next door neighbor,” layla giggled lightly at just how she was reacting. it hadn’t been all that long since she was in the same position, and if she was being honest, she still got a little starstruck herself. “the funnest part of these things is seeing all the really famous people being just like normal people. it messes with your head a little, doesn’t it?”

Last Call dropped a new music video for their single “Bad Liar” today (Jan. 27). Directed by Maisie Lewiston, the visual is set in a high school, where a male is suspended a few inches off the floor, shoulders slouched, leaning forward in an empty hallway. The dancer, Nikola Davenport in a white dress approaches and dances around him.

“Bad Liar” is the fourth and final single from Last Call’s first studio album, Over My Head. The album dropped last year, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart and topping the U.S. Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts.

“can you just –––– HOLD this,” she mumbled and she knelt on the ground and searched through her bookbag for god knows what. claire held out a journal to the other, hoping they’d do what she’d asked of them. it really wasn’t that big of an ask. “i know that it’s in here somewhere. –– please don’t open it up,” she spoke as she looked up from her spot on the ground.

“i won’t, don’t worry.” layla assured her, taking the journal with a hand on either side to hold it closed. she wouldn’t have gone snooping either way, the thought wouldn’t have even crossed her mind, but she wanted to make sure that claire knew that. “what is it you’re looking for? i can try to help you look if you want some help.”
