beth let out a small laugh as she listened to her niece speak about the things her parents used to do. “oh god, that sounds like your parents. i can see your dads doing those things as well. i remember when jesse used to do that to oliver and he would just laugh.” she shook her head at the old memory. “oh, he might. you should ask one of your parents but i have no idea.”

“i don’t know how they survived three kids when they freak out about everything. when julian first rolled over, i was in the kitchen and he was on the couch. when i came back to the living room, he was on the floor. and then when i told kurt about it, he freaked out even though i told him he was fine,” she said. “i’m gonna bring it up to mom next time we go over. i don’t really see kurt and blaine much because they’re still pissed off at me about joey moving in with me.”

“there’s no difference in the taste of whatever it’s in. like brownies? just taste like brownies. i used to. i quit,” she said. “yeah, same. i never drink anything open.”

beth was over to give julian, kearstyn and her boyfriend their christmas gifts that she had bought them. now was a good time since she had spent the holidays with her mother, father and herself. it was always just them and their holiday traditions. she let out a small laugh as she shook her own head. “no, it doesn’t make you a bad mom at all. my mom used to laugh at me for the same things. she has videos,” she nodded her head.

“my mom used to, too. jesse would hit me with my own hand, and kurt and blaine would freak out if i hurt myself. ever since he started being able to hold things, he smacks himself at least five hundred times a day, huh?” she said, kissing julian’s head. “you’re alright. i promise. calm down,” she said, bouncing him lightly as he kept crying. “he’s also teething, so he’s been cranky. i’m waiting for a tooth to pop through, but i don’t even feel a bump in his gums yet. at least, i think he’s teething. he’s been chewing on everything lately.”

“i wouldn’t know. i don’t eat it, i just smoke it. or used to,” she said. she hadn’t touched it since she got pregnant. and then after she had julian, she didn’t have any interest in it anymore. “oh, yeah. it’s either spiked, or someone coughed, sneezed, or spit in it. probably all of them though. can’t trust anybody around an open bowl.”

“i didn’t have a choice. i was seventeen when we moved. and even if i had gone back to london, those parents came out here too so i would have ended up here either way. but, julian’s dad is here now, so i don’t really have any reason to go back.”

kearstyn laughed as julian managed to bop himself in the head with a toy. she watched his expression go from confused, to pouting, to full blown crying before picking him up and laughing again, kissing his head. “well, stop swinging it around like that, learn to control your little noodle arms. you’re okay,” she said. “does it make me a bad mom for laughing?”

Naomi had been dancing up a storm on the dance floor, but even she needed a break. “Are those any good?” she asked aloud to whomever was hovering around the refreshments’ table, a shiny fingernail pointing to the tray of cookies. “I’m in need of some sustenance, stat.”

“no idea. i don’t eat anything the school provides. knowing mckinley, someone probably put weed in them anyways.”

sophie sat at an empty table in the back, her eyes flickering from face to face as she sipped at her punch. “oh god… that’s awful.” she groaned setting the plastic cup back down on the table, smoothing out her dress. “whatever you do, don’t drink the punch.”

“wasn’t planning on it, it’s probably spiked,” she said. “i don’t get why people can’t just have fun without the alcohol. i used to party like my life depended on it, and i can honestly say i don’t miss it.”

“whattaya think, mister?” she asked, holding up two outfits, as if julian could actually give his input. “it’s your first christmas outfit, it’s gotta be a good choice.” she held the outfits out to get a better look as he babbled and she bit her cheek. “i dunno buddy, i’m likin’ the blue one. matches your eyes, don’t ya think?” she asked. “oh hey, could you gimme a quick answer?” she asked as someone passed by. “red or blue? think the blue one goes with his skin tone better?” she asked, holding the outfits next to the stroller julian was in.

jaxon came into the store to buy some new shirts for himself. he had one plan, get it and get out but when he heard someone ask a question, the boy stopped in his tracks. “hey, it’s you.” he chuckled as he turned to make his make his way over. “i mean, i’m no baby daddy but i do agree with you on that.” he nodded as he looked over at the baby. “hey little man, do you agree with your pretty mommy?” he grinned.

as julian babbled, kearstyn chuckles lightly. “he does. see, mommy isn’t the only one that likes you in blue,” she said. “he looks really cute in pink too.”
