Captain Fantastic (2016) is unique by way of comfort films in that the family lives what is essentially my fantasy of an ideal life. It’s so damn beautiful. And I get to witness the conflicts that inevitably arise when trying to live a different way here. I see how raising children in such an ideal environment would inevitably leave them ill-prepared for navigating the toxicity of the rest of the world. The story is especially beautiful to me. Something touches me deeply when people honor their dead. The entire cast is amazing. Viggo Mortensen has a special kind of warmth to his acting that captures me every time.
