“No I’m just really excited.” Jane said sarcastically. Drinking for her was a terrible idea, it never ended well, but she needed it. A little bit of courage needed. “Yes we have that, God knows why chilling in the basement.” With a very smooth move, she threw the sledge-hammer over her shoulder, stole back the bottle, gulping the half of it down and walked down the stairs of the basement.

Rolling her eyes, Fia trailed after her friend, peering through the darkness and listening carefully. If anyone’d been there they would’ve come out already, so she sighed, relaxing once more, and stepped into the dusty basement. “Don’t trip, babe. Not feeling too much for carrying you all the way back.” She scooped a canister of gasoline from the floor, swiveling around in their former glory gone to dust and decay. There were traces left from when they’d pretty much camped out in the bsement, doing all their work here; chips out of the wall from sword practice, pen marks on the peeling paint, an abundance of extra sockets placed to manage all Jane's equipment. "I was so sad we had to take the fort down," she muttered, snatching the bottle back from the blonde, putting it to her lips. "So was King, I could tell."

Jane tried not to be sad at the mention of burning it down. Some many things happened in here and the thought of losing something that meant so much to them made her hurt, but Fia was right, this was something that the angels could use to lead them to everyone. A simple clue could ruin everything. “Let’s drink to the memories and burn this fucking place down.” Jane nodded, pulling the bottle out of Fia’s hand, opening it and slamming it back that it made the liquid drip all over her chin.

“You’re always such a mess, Jane, holy fuck,” Fia chuckled, wiping her thumb across the girl’s chin before swiping the bottle from her and gulping some of it down. The burn barely stung anymore. Alcohol had been as frequent part of their lives as they could afford. The loss of Jax still ached every day. “We’re going to have to get a canister of gasoline if we want to burn this baby. We left some behind in the basement, didn’t we?”

Jane almost had a heart attack, or maybe had one and died without knowing. “For fuck sake, Fi! You almost killed me by being a freaking ghost.”Jane said agitated, lowering the heavy hammer to the ground. But she couldn’t believe it either. She wasn’t even planning to come back to their old place — like ever, but something brought her here. “I miss it. I miss my home”

“It’s good to be on guard, princess.” Fia stepped into the living room. Even though they’d spent much longer on the road together than they, altogether, had spent in this house in San Diego, the memories were much stronger of that time. Because they’d had a home and a family of flamingos and a royal feline to share it with. “I miss it, too.” She crouched in front of a row of cupboards and pulled the bottom of the shelve out with her pocket knife, revealing a secret stash of booze she’d left behind in case they ever passed through. “Let’s drink to the memories. And then maybe torch this place to the ground. It’s only going to be a liability to us for as long as it stays up.”

Jane took a deep breath, looking around the place that she used to call home. The flamingos and couches were still in tact, only getting dusty, because of the lack of attention. Jane couldn’t help, but wiggle her nose at the smell of rotten socks. When she heard a sudden movement, she went into survival mode and grabbed onto the sledge hammer tightly that she had brought with her to break the chain of the front door. “You better be a nice little mouse! — Please be a nice little mouse…”

It was weird to be back. Fia walked around the neighborhood, checking the traps she'd set up around the perimeter, but none had been sprung. Either that meant no one had bothered checking the area, or they'd been smart enough to avoid them. Either way, there wasn't much to see, so she turned around and beelined for the house, coming face to face with her sledge hammer-wielding friend. "Wow, dude, chill--it's me." She looked around the hall, eyes doing a quick sweep. No one had gotten in. That was good. "Can't believe we're back here," she muttered, dragging a finger through the thick layer of dust. "Didn't think we'd ever see it again."

"It has been a rough year. It’s just me checking." Jane shrugged. They have lost a few dearest people close to them, and the hope of winning was getting smaller and smaller. "I’m fine for now, the system needs to be better that’s what I am worried about." she said, biting her lip. Maybe they did need to stick with the resistance group for a while, they had a cat and billions of flamingo’s in the back who needed a good home, not a moving van. "We can stay with them for a bit. I heard that Rafi was here. I want to see him."

"I don't think they'd mind having us around for a bit. We've helped them plenty in the past." Fia finished her meal and set the bowl aside. With her hands folded on top of her stomach she allowed herself a moment of peace, her head tipped back and her eyes closed. Of course, as things went, that didn't last long. The wind howled around them, rattled the metal of the rusty, old van. It wasn't a very quiet ride to begin with but they'd squeezed the last bit of life out of it the past two months they'd been using it, covering small stretches of distance at a time. "I'd say we go check it out and see if there's a room where we can set up temporarily." She sighed and ran her hand through her hair. "I miss the house." Even though they'd never gotten Jax's blood out of the hardwood floors she'd loved that house for what it had represented: a home, at last.

Jane looked up and smiled out of relief when Fia appeared, and bonus alert! She had something nice and warm in her hand, which was one of her favorite kinds of food. “Mac and cheese, the way to a Wilson’s heart.” Jane giggled, grabbing into the bowl of cheesy goodness. “The angels are getting more active now Fia— I’m just scared that a van hidden between leafs and twigs isn’t going to cut it.” She frowned. Now it was only them now for real. Her guardian angel couldn’t protect her anymore, or simply stopped wanting to do so, with the whole shit fest from last year.— “Are you okay though?”

Fia kicked her legs up on a wobbly table and dug into her food, resting the bowl on her chest so her fork didn't need to move an awfully big distance. "Why wouldn't I be? I'm living the good life, road tripping with my best friend who's growing more paranoid every day. You're still holding out alright, right? Because you tell me when shit gets too scary and I'll figure something out. Find us some cozy atom bunker or something, or put you in a self-induced coma to keep you on ice for a while." She unzipped her hoodie and continued eating, talking between bites. "I think our traveling days are over though, so we should look around for a place if we're not shacking up with the mini-army next-door."

Jane turned on her laptop as fast as she could, knowing that the angels were giving the finger to being merciful, and kill you as soon they see a human. The system had been shut down and now she had to visit every satellite to update it. Spending time in a van wasn’t her favorite location for a home nor vacation spot, but shit was going down hill and they needed her. “For the love of any species who isn’t god, please let me survive this!”

Fia hoisted herself into the van with two bowls of steaming mac and cheese. "Godawful ruckus in the goddamn convent all the godfucking time," she muttered as she put the food down and swept her hair aside, to look at Jane. "Yo, lil' mamma, what makes you think you wouldn't survive? We've been surviving alright, haven't we?" The past year had been hard, they'd lost good people and they had watched their hard work go up into nothing, their Network down, but they had survived. That was the most important, really. "Come on, eat. You don't know what I've had to do to get us such big portions."

He knew the moment he opened his eyes that something was off. He couldn’t point his finger at it, but just the feeling in his stomach pushed him to believe that what he was about to do was in no way a good idea. Or even close to one. — He never felt scared. Not since he was human and he hardly remembered anything about that. But he was scared now as he walked down the dark hallways to the room he often, yet not often enough came to visit.

Blood was dripping down his body and he knew what was happening, he knew there was no going back. No one to save him from what was about to come. He knew because he no longer felt any pain. Even the tears stopped comming and his feet that moved slowly and quietly down the hall, leaving the blood traice behind had now failed to feel anything at all. But he didn’t mind, because he pushed open the door of the apartment and fell to the ground a second after. His blue eyes finding those of a girl. “I did it.” he smiled through a small laugh that pushed out the blood.

Fia carried a laundry basket up the stairs and began picking up dirty clothes from the floor of her bed room. Lately she had been feeling ever so domestic, especially when Jane went on a marathon of no sleep but lost pretty much all her functionality because of it. That was alright for now, but having to worry about mundane things like having clean clothes took away from thinking about the war and the important things she needed to do, and that wasn't very good. Her focus was waning.

She looked out the window, over the neighborhood to see if everything was still peaceful. At first she thought everything was okay, but soon enough her eyes found someone stumbling through the shadows. Someone drunk? Someone injured? Or an angel acting the role of his life? She put the basket down and ran down the stairs, snatching a gun from a side table and aimed it at the door.

A curse ripped from her throat as she saw Jax and she threw herself to the ground, one hand holding up his head, her fingers clenching into his spiky hair, while the other pulled aside cloth to find the source of all the blood. "Jax, what the hell?" she muttered, blinking her eyes rapidly as she pressed her palm to the place where blood gushed out of his stomach. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? Come on, get up, there's first aid stuff in the kitchen. Jane! Jane--" she shouted, but no answer. "Fuck--shit, come on, Jax, stay with me."

"I can’t — I can’t take a break right now. There’s just too much.." Lauren started, frantically walking back and forth through the infirmary before meeting the person’s gaze in the doorway. "Oh, it’s you. Sorry.. I’ve just been.. wrapped up in work lately."

"Oh--uhm, I'll come back some other time then, if you're busy." Fia leaned against the door frame and allowed her eyes to roam the expanse of the hospital wing, even if she didn't like what she saw. Dying people, terrible injuries--her stomach tied itself into ten thousand knots. "Or I could take over for you, let you take a breather for a moment."

"No, she’s mentioned you a few times. You guys are really close. She says a lot of good things about you." Nicholas nodded, remembering. He took a deep breath in and let it out. "I don’t think she’s a bad person..I know she’s not." he replied and then shrugged. "I don’t know, it just hurt. It hurts." his voice faded slowly, getting quiter as the sentence continued on. "It’ll just take a minute to really get over it, I guess."

"I wouldn't blame you if it took you longer, honestly, but I feel like... like maybe you guys should be friends first before you jump into things? Like, you guys knew each other what? A day? That's not a good base for a relationship, and those don't work if you don't know the other person." Fia chewed on her lip, and finally shrugged a shoulder as she lookd down. "It's your choice, but you made her happy so I want to see you two succeed."

"It’s actually a surprisingly good way of pretending they don’t exist. Works a treat, but there is the problem of finding the alcohol." He shrugged, avoiding her gaze. "What if I don’t want to face them head-on? — Merci," he smiled, drinking another mouthful before gazing down at the bottle thoughtfully. "I won’t, don’t worry. This is all my fault, and I don’t blame you in the slightest." Seth pulled his legs up to his chest, wrapping his arms around them and nodding. "I…yes please. Thanks, Fia. But my rough patch was ages ago, y’know? I just…I guess I thought it’d get easier with time, and I’d be fine again now. Je suis dés— uh, sorry. I don’t mean to dump all my problems on you."

"That's okay, surprisingly that's what I have been doing for Jane a lot and I'm good at it. Listening and comforting, I mean. If you want to drown yourself in booze, go ahead, now that I'm sure you're staying here I don't have to fear you'll get yourself killed and I'll be guilty as fucking charged for letting you go." Fia shrugged, slouching in the couch and putting her hands in the pockets of her hoodie. "But we all have problems. --Look around, we're dying left and right, or getting injured, and the only reason we're alive is because we've seen some shit that has made us hard and tough and difficult to kill. There's no shame in feeling things over those... things. That happened. You know? It's human."
