“R-really?” He rubs his head. “Do we know each other? I can’t remember much of anything, lately.”
“Uh, yeah -- or, we used to, at least. You disappeared and I haven’t seen you in almost a year so you probably don’t remember me, but I’m Seth. You are Theo, right?”
“Guess that makes me a bit of a hypocrite, huh?”
“Just a little bit, yeah. But hey, all the best people are.”
Why did everyone always have to remind him of his wings? Raphael winced, fist slamming into the wall behind him, plaster and stone crumbling to the floor. He didn’t have much of his power and abilities left, but still enough to kill a frail human if he so desired–which he did not, not really. “I’m Raphael, you blithering fool. Haven’t you wondered how everyone’s been surviving this long? How Lauren and Natasha survived a car crash that should’ve been their end with practically no injuries? I’ve been standing up for you guys and this is how I’m rewarded? Gun in the face? Bad attitude? Come on, now.”
Seth couldn’t help but flinch, biting his lip as the man dented the wall and tightening his grip on his sword. Raphael didn’t look like he was going to kill him, but he was still an angel, so that didn’t really mean much. “Well perhaps if you didn’t go around threatening people then they might treat you better,” he snapped.
“You insult me, little human.” Raphael flicked the gun out of his hand easily, glaring at Seth with ice blue pools of murderous pain. “Do you even know who I am?”
Seth flinched as the man knocked the gun out of his hand, reaching reflexively for his angel blade. Little human -- that meant this guy definitely wasn’t human. He didn’t see any wings, but that didn’t mean much -- a lot of angels hid theirs anyway. “Some bastard with wings who came to kill us all for no apparent reason?”
“You’re allowed to make poor choices.”
“Poor choices? Me? You think I make poor choices?”
  “Here’s a hint for you: if you want to survive, get out. N o w.”
“I’m the one holding the gun here, cheri, you don’t get to make demands. What the hell are you doing here?”
Lauren let out a quick sigh of relief when she saw Seth standing in the shadows. She tilted her head, giving him a warm smile as she shook her head. “You scared me more hiding than you di just talking to me.” She said as she  let out a small laugh.
Seth laughed. “Well, I promise I won’t hide anymore, then. What are you doing here, anyway?”
Lauren made her way through the darkened and abandoned building, searching for anything they could make useful. Since the capture, she always felt like someone was watching her – her doe eyes peered into the darkness, almost knowing someone was staring back. “You’re not very good at this hide and seek thing.”Â
Seth raised his hands, stepping forwards into the light so Lauren could see him. “Hey, it’s only me! And I wasn’t trying to hide, just so you know. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“No I can handle it. I have carried it all the way here after all.” Jane shrugged, opening the front door. She looked down at the silver bracelet, resting on her wrist. Even despite everything she still had one she could rely on, how strange that might seem now. “No I got a gun.” Jane lifted her shirt a bit, to show the small little gun between the waistband of her pants. “No, that’s why I stop at least a few times. I takes a bit longer to get home, but it does beat walking.”
Seth nodded, following her out the door and nocking an arrow, just in case. He smiled slightly. “Since when could you handle a gun?” he teased. “I’m impressed. But still, armed or not, it’s better if we don’t spend too much time in the open. Just in case.” He laughed, nodding in agreement. “Very true. I’ll follow you, then.”
Rose hiked up the stairs to the second floor, feet moving in the usual route to avoid the piles of rubble scattered about. The second floor apartment was only one of the many safe-houses she’d set up around the city. She’d escaped here a few nights before when her previous one had been compromised by Angels.Â
She’d gone out to scavenge for provisions in the early morning, but as she neared the door, a feeling of dread ran down her spine. The door was propped open a few inches – she hadn’t left it open when she’d left. Careful not to make too much noise, Rose gently pushed open the door to look inside. It seemed to be empty, but the dust revealed footprints suggesting other-wise. Her hand pulled out her small handgun, feet quick to move to the point wherein the intruder rested, gun pressed up against the other’s head.
“It’s not polite to break and enter, even in this day and age.” It was ironic really, given that’s really what she did to survive. Though, it’s always unpleasant when the situations flipped.Â
He’d been feeling restless, all cooped up in headquarters with nothing to do all day. And so Seth had turned to one of his favourite pastimes: exploring. Even now, after he’d been a part of the Feather Fighters for almost a year, he still preferred to walk around the city and discover new places, new hideouts, and often he preferred to stay in one of those hideouts than to head back to base at the end of the day.
After a quick search of the building, he’d been inexplicably drawn back to the only locked door. He had been mildly disappointed to find that there was no one inside, although he supposed that was for the best. After all, he doubted that anyone would take kindly to someone picking the lock on their front door -- although, to be fair, had he been an angel or someone coming to kill them he would have just blasted the door down.
No one was around, and so Seth gently laid his bow down on the table and moved to pick up a snowglobe from the mantlepiece. It was a rookie’s mistake, and he cursed himself as he heard footsteps a few seconds later, followed by the press of cold steel against his head before he had a chance to reach for any weapon. He raised his hands slowly, mind racing. If it was an angel, they’d blow his brains out without a second thought, but if it was a human he might be able to talk his way out of this. “I wasn’t aware there was anyone living here,” he said calmly, keeping his voice and his hands steady. “I haven’t taken anything, and if you’d prefer I’ll be on my way now.”
Jane closed up her backpack, throwing it over her shoulder and ready to drag her sledge-hammer to the van. “Just to be sure, even if I have an guardian angel watching my back. — I’m with my van, so we don’t have to walk all the way back.”
He held out his hand. “I can carry that for you, if you want. Not that I don’t think you can handle it, but it looks rather heavy.” He laughed slightly. “Well, I prefer not to rely on angels of any sort. Is a hammer really the only weapon you’ve got? -- Ooh, even a van! I’m impressed. Are you sure it’s a good idea to be driving around, though?”
“Crap, I really thought you finally got laid.” Sarah pretended to look disappointed before smiling at him. “Busy schedule? That’s hilarious.” She teased and stepped into the room. She sat down on a chair and glanced at him. “Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I am not the best of friends.”Â
“Oh, please, we both know I could get laid whenever I want.” He laughed, closing the door behind him before flopping down on the seat next to her. He shook his head. “No, if anything it’s been my fault.These last few weeks have been...busy. But I promise when things start to calm down we can go back to annoying the hell out of each other again.” He poked her in the side with his elbow and grinned. “So, what’s life been like for Sarah Dunham recently?”
“I see.” He glanced around, a little lost are teleporting to the wrong place. “Where are we?”
“In the library, downtown.” He tilted his head to one side. “Are you feeling okay? You look a little...disorientated.”
“Faith? Yeah, because having faith always turns out so great.”
He winced. “Okay, so maybe that wasn’t the best word to use. But having faith that I’ll always look good isn’t the same as having faith in...other things.”
“I love you, and appreciate your…style. But not even you can pull off split ends.”
“I can pull off anything, Natasha. Have a little faith.”
Michael frowned as he did so often these days. “There are traitors in your lines too, it’s a part of every war - people hoping to gain something from helping the other side - and the younger angels are quick to make mistakes.” The Archangel massaged his temples, eyes not leaving the human in front of him. “Believe me or not, I couldn’t care less, this is none of your business anyway.”
Seth curled his lip. The thought of humans siding with the angels was enough to make him feel sick, which was probably similar to how Michael felt if the reverse was true, honestly. “You killed an angel,” he pointed out, “which most definitely is my business. But, hey, I’m not complaining; whatever your reasoning for it, that’s one less bastard with wings we have to worry about.”
Jane shrugged, ignoring his laughter. He could laugh all he wanted, but these stupid plastic animals meant a world to her and Fia. It became symbolic, even if it was the most strangest thing ever. “Yes I did. You wouldn’t get it.” Jane dusted off the flamingo and put it in her backpack. “Should we head back? You said there were angels running around, not in the mood to meet one.”
“Well, each to their own, I guess,” he smiled. Seth nodded, glancing around reflexively to check they were still alone. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. One angel I could take, but even I’m not stupid enough to hang about and wait for a group of them.”
