in 2004 the federal minimum wage was 5.15 an hour. that's just over 9 hours of work to pay for the meal at the time. there have been three increases to federal minimum wage since then, the last was in 2009, when it was set to 7.25 an hour, where it remains today. it now takes close to 18 hours of work to pay for the same meal. crudely speaking, you get paid half as much as you would have back then. even if we go by inflation, in which the meal should only come out to 78.08, its still now nearly 11 hours of work for the same meal.
