We were sitting together and talking and I said:

“Yeah I’m just really into reading fanficts about my OTP ships. Like Zutara and Fuffy (Faith and Buffy)”

Him: “Oh, cool. Are they canon?”

Me: “What? Of course not. God I wish they fucking were!” *laughs*

Him: “Then shipping them is pointless.”

Me “…. what…”

Him: “Shipping them is pointless. Like Zutara, they hated eachother. And she ended up with Aang and he ended up with Mai. Plus they had kids with who the ended up with and loved them. So it’s pointless to ship Zutara.”

Me: “….”

Him: “Why would you devote so much to something that will never be?”

Me In my head: LIKE THE FUTURE OF THIS RELATIONSHIP?

Me IRL: “I don’t think you get how shipping works.”

Him: “No I do, but once it’s all said and done and the series is finished then it’s pointless. Like if the show was still going and you said Zutara, I’d be like yeah okay. But it’s over. You lost. So why would you keep shipping?”

Me: “I may have lost, but I’m not convinced I’m on the wrong side.”

Him: “Was that an ATLA quote?”

Me: “OH MY GOD NO THAT WAS FIREFLY TAKE ME HOME RIGHT NOW!”
