Part 2: Spreading Love
Conceptual Goal:
Similar to my self-love artwork, this piece of work is also inspired by the Molly Mae trend. I essentially went about it in the same way as the self-love piece, collecting materials and brainstorming what I was going to put on it. For this piece, I couldn’t find the perfect canvas size, so I decided to use two smaller canvases and smaller letters. I turned the canvases long ways, and strategically placed the letters. I struggled with trying to choose someone to make this for, and finally I decided to just make this piece for all of my lovely roommates, so we can hang it in our home. I chose, “Doll House,” because our college house is called that, and we go by “The Dolls.” I thought this would be perfect to commemorate our senior year house, the place where we can call home.
Aesthetic Goals:
I decided to keep this piece simple with a fully white canvas. Our living room aesthetic is very colorful and bright, and I felt that white would work perfectly to bring everything together. I decided to hang it in the corner of our living room, the wall was the perfect size for the canvases.
Course Inspiration:
This piece of artwork was inspected by this passage from the book The Secret Lives of Color, “Ivory itself was used for thousands of years to make costly decorative items, like the Lewis Chessman, combs, and brush handles. Later it was used for piano keys, ornaments, and pool balls” (St. Clair, p. 48). I chose this passage because my artwork is an ivory-white color. I’m giving this piece to my roommates to hang in our living room, and this passage says that ivory was used to make decorative items, which is what my artwork is going to be.
