I took Bud to a Tulip Festival in Istanbul (where a security officer chastised me because he thought I’d picked a tulip)

When we think of tulips we often think about the patchwork fields of the Netherlands and the corresponding Dutch Tulip Mania of the early 17th century. But I think it’s less commonly known that these colorful Spring flowers originate farther southeast, in the mountainous regions of what was the Ottoman Empire at the time. The name “tulip” is thought to be a derived from the Turkish word for turban (”türbent”), perhaps because they somewhat resembled the flowers. It may have been a translation error when someone was asked about the flowers that were fashionably worn in turbans at the time.

Every Spring, in Istanbul and other places around Turkey, there are carpets of tulips planted around and celebrated in parks and gardens. But you can also see their motifs in fences, paintings, and frescos throughout Istanbul in mosques and palaces at any time of year!

I’ve been getting a bunch of new followers lately (hello! What brought you here?) so I thought I’d say hi and collect what I’m doing in one spot! (But for more in depth posts you can find me on Patreon too!)

My main project lately is Botanica, my tarot deck about the language of flowers, using floriography and ethnobotany to explore meaning in the plants around us through the lens of tarot and now an oracle deck. Botanica: Full Bloom with Beehive Books collects both of these, and now available everywhere! It just won an award too!!

You can buy enamel pins of the Major Arcana, as well as limited prints and the originals too!

I just announced my first book project, Sacred Trees, which explores some extra special trees that humans venerate all over the world. I’ll be doing it with Andrews McMeel!

I’ve also got a little guy that I’m doing a project about - his name is Bud! He’s a little plant sprite who I want to travel with and share interesting plant facts with.

I have two capsule collections with Dual Wield Studio! One of them, Sacred Blood, is already out! There is a sweater, pin, and bandana. The concept is about the legend of St. Leonard who slew the dragon Sin and where the saint’s blood fell, lily of the valley flowers grew. Another project will be releasing soon too, The Spellsword’s Armoire!

And I’ve also been making some amulets with flowers! I’ve been really enjoying making special objects imbued with floral symbolism.

MoCCA Fest is this weekend, and I’ll be at Table 69!

I'm tabling for real for the first time since 2019 (??) and manning Beehive Books’ table with Kyle too!

I've got brand new prints, it's the first show for Botanica: Full Bloom, and I'm also doing one-card readings for anyone who wants one. And on Saturday 12-1, I'll be doing a signing there too! (But stop by anytime if you miss it, I'll be there!)

Botanica: Full Bloom is officially out! It’s available in all major stores, and the decks have been shipped to backers! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this project, from wherever you hopped on board!

I’ve spent a decade now working on Botanica, and Full Bloom is the culmination of so much learning I’ve done along the way. With the addition of the Oracle deck, it’s now 111 cards, with a stunning diagonal-opening box that Allie Oldfield designed the hell out of (who was also such a huge help with everything else too).

Massive thank you to Josh and Maelle and Beehive Books for taking a chance on the most personal and indulgent project I’ve ever done and helped turn it into the success it’s been.

And thank you to everyone whose kind words and support have gotten me to where I am today too, truly. It’s been such a joy to be able to share a little bit of magic with you, and I hope to share more in the future too.
