WEEK 13: CAPSTONE PROPOSAL DAY

This is it. This is the day where every 3rd year student waited for. It is also the day where our struggles has come to a reality. This is the day for a Capstone Proposal Defense Day! We've been waiting for this day to come for us to show to them that our capstone project, Grades Management System for Initao National Comprehensive High School is important to them, can give solutions to them. And we are now arrived to this day to defend it.

Last week, we created a log in page and dashboard for our system, Grades Management System for Initao National Comprehensive High School. And also we've finalized our paper for us to print and give them to our panelists.

Now, before we come to this day, let's talked about our experiences in editing our paper to submitting it to our panelists. Our Capstone Instructor reminds us that the deadline will be tomorrow, we finalized our paper right away because we got a little time. And of course we finished it late at night already especially the table of contents and such took a lot of time remembering the pages and editing it. Speaking of paging, we struggle a lot because I wanted them to page consecutively but when i try to implement it, it doesn't follow the proper paging format. Example if I put the number 1, we should expect the the following pages should be number 2, 3, 4 and so on. But that is not the case. After I input the 1, every pages also shows the number 1 as their page number. And yeah after a lot of time, we solved it by manually inputted the paging.

Then, after that we waited to the print shop to print our paper, but we took a long time because apparently, we are not the only ones who have a proposal defense but there are also other colleges who are going to defend their thesis. So, it took us a lot of time. After for almost 4 hours in the shop, we've printed our papers already. And after that, we submitted those papers and we went to our homes for the preparation.

On the day of the capstone proposal, we don't actually felt nervous because apparently our panelist are very cool with the presentation and therefore, is not that strict. So, we've just focus on familiarizing our lines for our capstone proposal. After our time comes, we've enter the room nervously as we heard the our panelists are very serious when it come to diagrams and thought to ourselves that whatever happens in the presentation, we just help each other out and we just did.

After the long process of questioning, we got out of the room safe and sound and also reminiscing the awkward moments happened in the presentation. After the deliberation of the panelist, they have come to a conclusion that our paper is PROVISIONALLY PASSED meaning it is accepted not until the conditions or comments are reflected in the paper. We are happy for what we've been hearing because our paper is accepted and even though it still needs revisions, we still happy that they accepted our paper.

WEEK 12: CREATION OF LOG IN AND DASHBOARD

Last week, we finalized our chapter from 1 to 5. We initially provide more defendable data to our manuscripts so that it will be easy to defend them. My co-proponents had a brainstorming with our revisions and had a lot of confusion but we worked hard on it so that we could proceed to the preparation of our Final Defense.

This week, we had work to do, which was the creation of a login page and the dashboard. This login page and dashboard are from the Grades Management System for Initao National Comprehensive High School. The login page is quietly complicated because it needs the credentials to work. My co-proponents were a bit in a rush because of some lack of time in making the log-in page, but luckily my co-proponents already made a dashboard advance last week.

For us to make this task successful, we have to conduct a meeting or forum to initially start the login page as well as give ideas and suggestions about the dashboard. The meeting was conducted through Google Meet, which is online. My co-proponents were giving ideas and comments about the work, and we complimented our dashboard for having it so clean and simple yet so readable. Our dashboard was not complete with all the functions, but we will still work on that, and hopefully, this system will be accepted successfully.

This log-in page and dashboard are required by our subject in requirements engineering. It must have a working log-in page and a dashboard with five functions. We have a slight problem with the log-in page because it needs to have a database so that it will prompt that the username or password is wrong or incorrect. As of now, we practically have a Teachers module with its functions: Manage Student Grades, Generate Reports, School Calendar, Profile, Settings, and Log Out in the side bar. But the special feature of our system is the visualization of the performance of the students.

As of now, we are preparing for our final defense, which will happen from December 14th to December 15th, and that was Thursday. We hope that this project will go successfully because we put a lot of effort into it, and my co-proponents are doing everything to finalize and revise our papers so that we can easily defend our project. We manifest that all of our projects, together with my classmates, are all accepted, and no one will leave behind.

WEEK 11: FINALIZATION OF THE CHAPTERS 1 TO 5

Last week, we changed our client again for a very good reason, conducted a formal interview with the principal, and asked for permission to interview one of the teachers in junior high school for our project, which is the "Grades Management System" for their school.

And now, we have chapters 1–5 manuscripts to be passed on Friday, November 24th. We actually do not expect that the deadline will be this week, but we will do our best to pass the manuscript. Since our chapters 4 and 5 are already about our new client, which is the Initao National Comprehensive High School, we double-checked Chapter 1 with revisions, and for Chapters 2 and 3, we also finalized and double-checked due to the new client.

During the finalization of our manuscripts, we are quite uncertain about our own revisions, and we do brainstorming to manage some confusion regarding the diagrams and especially the narrative listing because this is the most important part. And we hope for a good result and comments about this. Even though we are not sure, we make sure that everything is understandable to the three of us so that there will be no problem.

While we are working on chapters 1–5, one of my co-members for this project initially constructs and builds our dashboard for the "Grades Management System," and we give ideas and suggestions regarding the functions that need to be included in the dashboard. We want everything ready to explore more and face new challenges so that we can avoid them as soon as possible. We communicate through Facebook Messenger, group chats, and Google Meet.

As we continue to make this project successful during the final defense, we hope and pray that everything will be good and successful. We are only positive about better results and ready to face any challenges. For our final project, It would be the "Grades Management System for Initao National Comprehensive High School," and we wish ourselves luck for the upcoming final defense.

WEEK 10: CLIENT CHANGE

Last week, we talked about the write up of the chapters 4 and 5 which are the "Methodology' and the "Results and Discussion" respectively, where we communicated each other through online via Google Meet and discussed the things that need to include in the chapters.

Now this time, we will talk about the change in the client once again and the reason why we change the client.

Before the academic break started, we ask for an advice from our Capstone Adviser regarding our client because despite of having no stable structure or system, they only have a very few student population. And we are not so sure if the project is accepted in our upcoming defense. So while it's still early, we decided to go to his office to have a consultation regarding to this concern of ours and after he heard our concerns, he recommends to change a client. And without a second thought, we accepted his recommendation.

We chose Initao National Comprehensive High School as our client because geographically speaking, the members' house is nearer to the location of the client and also has a huge student population. After that, we discuss the things in regards with the preparation for the formal interview.

On the day of our interview, we went to Initao National Comprehensive High School to interview the principal and she is Ma'am Joan Calope J. Longakit and she is the principal of the school. Our interview with her went smoothly as she is very accomodating and very professional in responding to our questions.

After our interview, we found out that they follow the standard grading system base on what deped is mandated. And by the way, we only limit it to the Junior High School only and Senior High School is not included.

Base on the result of our interview, our system is still Grades Management System integrated with a Student Module where they can only see their grades.

We are hoping that this changes will lead us to a successful outcome. And may God Bless Us All.

WEEK 9: CHAPTER WRITE UP

Last week, we went to the municipal hall of Lugait. We visited the Registrar's Office of Lugait College for the follow-up interview. We conducted an interview with the instructor of the said institution. The follow-up interview is quite needed, as we realize that the paper requires more information.

This week, we, the keybored group, will find ways to communicate as some of our classes are postponed and some are online. We are going to make the 8th deliverable, chapter 4, which is the write-up. This chapter 4 is all about the methodologies.

For the making of Chapter 4, the project manager assigned tasks to each one of the members so that we would have a successful and united effort in this chapter. The methodology includes the methods and steps involved in designing, developing, and testing the functionality of the proposed system. It also includes the test participants and the usability test setup.

As we found ways to communicate, we used Google Meet for this meeting and planning. After the assignment of tasks, we go directly to give our ideas and check our progress for this chapter. One of the keyboard members showed their work regarding Chapter 4. Some of us are confused, but we make sure that everything is going to be good as soon as possible.

After this meeting, we decided to continue and change some of the mistakes and add some more information regarding the methodology of our proposed system. We are hoping that after this chapter we can proceed to Chapter 5, which is the results and discussion, where it is most important for us to know how our proposed system has the potential to be accepted and how the system will work soon.

WEEK 8: FOLLOW-UP INTERVIEW

So, last week was all about into our paper revision, checking mistakes, corrections, and changes. We noticed a few gaps, especially in section 1.3, which is the narrative listing part. Turns out, we were missing some crucial info.

On October 16, 2023, we went to the Registrar Office of Lugait College, which is located in the Lugait Municipal Office, to conduct a follow-up interview prior to the realization that our paper is needed to supply more information regarding to the processes in managing the student's grades. So, here's what we've been up to:

During the discussion with our client, an interesting revelation came to light. It became apparent that not all instructors at Lugait College adhered strictly to the standardized grading system. Instead, it turns out that each course had its own unique set of criteria.

As we go deeper in our follow up interview, we notice that there was a some sort of diversity in how instructors assessed and assigned grades. Some instructors like to grade during in class, checking assignments and quizzes, and class participation, while other instructors focus to exams and final projects.

In the end, we realized that Lugait College was a place where the traditional way of grading existed. The variety of grading systems highlighted the adaptability and flexibility of their educational system. However, according to the Registrar, if the Grades Management System is turned over to them, they will be forced to follow the standardized grading system.

WEEK 7: PAPER REVISIONS

Last week, we were assigned to complete Chapter 3: CONCEPTS, THEORIES, AND TECHNICAL BACKGROUND. We collaborated and assigned tasks to finish Chapter 3 successfully. Suggesting, providing ideas, and following instructions helped us comply with the data needed in the chapter. But thankfully, we finished it before the deadline.

This week, we just need to follow and comply with the revisions made by our instructor for this subject. Our instructor read and checked our work in Chapter 1 so that we knew what was missing and needed to be added. Chapter 1 is "Write-up," which is the introduction, background and context of the project, narrative listing, issues and problems, statement of the problem, objective, significance, scope, and limitation of the project, as well as the methodology and summary.

Chapter 1 was returned to us last Tuesday, October 10. During the class, Mr. Gulfan helped us explain most of our mistakes in Chapter 1. Me and my co-member initially started to read all the corrections before we planned again regarding the changes. Also, one of our mistakes is 1.3, which is the narrative listing. We just need to add and complete all the work processes for our client. 

Today, we decided to check all the mistakes in our papers. We had a lot of realizations, especially for constructing the sentence and the choice of words. Since our narrative listing has a lot of mistakes, the issues and problems were affected, and we need to improve the papers so we can easily proceed with the possible revisions in Chapter 2 as well as in Chapter 3.

As of now, we are working again on our narrative listing, including the activity diagram. And also the use-case diagram, which was explained to us by Mr. Gulfan during our class. I hope the revisons of this chapter helped us improve the project even more so that we did not have any problems during the development. Also, we are looking forward to our instructors, who always guide and express more words for us to motivate and continue this work.

WEEK 6: CONCEPTS, THEORIES AND TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Last week, we proceeded to the Grades Management System at Lugait College and had a formal client interview right away. And we are so thankful that our client, Ms. Bullianday from the registrar office, is willing to provide what we want to know and what we need for the project. Also, we already gathered the data that we collected from them and collaborated with each other for different perspectives and opinions, so that this week we can go on to the next chapter, which is Chapter 3: Concepts, Theories, and Technical Background.

This week, the Keyboard 1960 group started to do the chapter 3 mentioned above. Before the gathering, we planned and observed what we would need to finish this chapter. My co-member, Jared M. Medio, formally started to give his opinion and ideas to make this chapter more favorable and positive. and my co-member Kevin D. Ramos followed to provide ideas for the development tools, taking advantage of his knowledge about them. So my team gathered the ideas to finalize what the chapter would need.

My team suggests that we go find references or knowledge about the development tools used in the other capstone project in the previous work of the graduate students. And to have that, we decided to go to the library after our morning class. We found a lot of projects, but we picked those closely related to our system. We also consider projects that are web-based or just the system itself. And then each one of us must provide one project, and we gather in the library to read the projects.

Chapter 3, which is Concepts, Theories, and Technical Background, is about discussing the software development cycle model that would be selected by the proponents, and it also provides an exploration of the technology tools for system design, development, and testing. We, the proponents, will use Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and JavaScript for the front-end. My team also went for the UML, or Unified Modeling Language, and chose MySQL as the development tool for the database and Visual Studio Code for the development of the front-end and the back-end. While for the software testing tools, we decide to do black box testing soon, which is a method of testing the software that examines the functionality of the software without looking into its internal structure or source code.

After we provide, we read and look for development tools and any sort of data that will be helpful for us to generate ideas to make this chapter a good one. We want this chapter to be passed on time as soon as possible so that it will be checked by our instructor and so that we can prepare for what would be lacking and mistakes about our work. Also, Keybored.1960 wants this chapter to have a favorable outcome so that it will satisfy us. We look forward to having this project finalized and being accepted for the project proposal soon.

WEEK 5: Formal Client Interview with our New Client

Last week, we decided to change our topic due to realizations and confusions about our client's data. We put those into consideration in changing our topic, and as per recommendation of our capstone adviser, he suggested the topic "Grades Management System" at Lugait College, so we accept the topic and started again from the beginning.

This week, we took a chance to do an interview with our client. Me and my team went together to the registrar office of Lugait College, which is currently located in one of the offices in Lugait Municipality. We prepared ourselves including the letter for the interview, and the questions we that used for questioning. Finally our client, which is Ms. Junah Bullianday, accepted our request for the interview immediately.

In the interview session, we ask questions based on what we will need with creating the system as well as for our papers, so that we will identify how the things work as a registrar in the Lugait College and make a narrative listing out of it for Chapter 1. As the interview continues, we are glad that Ms. Junah Bullianday responded the questions very in-detailed and explained to us properly how she will be doing her work related on our topic. In that part, me and my team took a chance to ask any follow up questions that shows us confusion and curiosity, and she answers them well.

After the interview, we formally thanked Ms. Bullianday for the warm welcome at their office. We also asked for documentation and took a picture together. She also permitted us to take a picture with the teacher's class schedule posted in their bulletin board, the reports, as well as the point-grading scale system which they followed in accordance to CHED.

The following day, we gathered all the data that we got from the interview, and we were just planning to pursue this project definitely. We basically review the audio record from the phone, and we analyze and observe all the possible and important data that we find it useful for creating the system. We hope that this project would bring us to success especially in helping our client providing a solution that they need so that we could proceed with the other chapters and defend it in our project proposal soon.

WEEK 4: FORMAL CLIENT INTERVIEW AND CHANGE TOPIC.

Last week, we prepared the possible interview questions for our client and letters, which are going to be signed by our IT department chairperson. After many revisions and realizations, we finally finished it within a week, and we are ready to hold a formal client interview.

So this week, we would be having a final formal client interview which will be held at the tourism office in Naawan Municipality. This interview was scheduled for Wednesday, September 20, at exactly 1 p.m. We interviewed the Municipal Tourism Officer, namely Amethyst E. Cortez.

Me and my team were looking forward to this and we are happy that the scheduled interview were aligned with our free time. During the interview, Kevin was assigned to do the documentation, and Jared was my assistant and I am the one who recorded the interview. As we ask questions, we add more questions that are not on the list that find us confused and curious.

As we finished the interview, we had a lot of realizations and confusion about our chosen project. It's because during the interview process we actually look for data that will be a big help in developing the system, but unfortunately we just found out that the data we are looking for are just too few. The reason is that we have what we followed during this project: first,  they have big data, complex work, and lastly, they don't have a system. But sadly, they just had a little data, and it was not that complex for them.

After planning and taking each other's suggestions into consideration, we decided to talk to our instructor for consultation. We have come to the realization that we want to change our project topic. So now, the Keybored group has decided to change a topic, and as of now, we have an interesting topic. "Grades Management System" at Lugait College, so we are now going to start again, find more references, and really plan to make this project final as soon as possible so that we will not be behind. So Tourism Information System for Destination Management is no longer our topic.

WEEK 3: PREPARATION FOR A FORMAL CLIENT INTERVIEW

Last week, we did an initial brief client interview where we only need to know what is their nature of their business which in our case is about tourism. And we found out that their tourism is nature-based, meaning they focus more on nature.

This week, we've been busy preparing for our client's formal interview. It's been a challenging but exciting experience so far. Here's what we've been up to:

We started off by preparing a set of possible interview question for our client about their business operation, the system, and their tourist spot information. This way, it help us to understand what the client is looking for.

Through out the process, we have a lot of revisions to the questions because some of them are redundant and it needs to modify or remove. We also made sure that the questions were open-ended and not leading.

After we make sure that everything is prepared for a formal interview, we print an appointment letter and have it signed by the IT department chairperson, and we head to our location, which is the LGU Naawan Tourism Office, but unfortunately, the client is unavailable for the whole week because they went to CdeO to celebrate Tourism Week. And we only have an appointment via chat through Facebook Messenger. And we scheduled our formal interview for Monday.

WEEK 2: CLIENT INTERVIEW

Proposed Title: Tourism Information System for Destination management

Interviewee: Amethyst E. Cortez

Date of Interview: September 1, 2023

Venue: LGU - Naawan Tourism Office

We conducted a brief initial interview with a potential client for our capstone project on September 1, 2023. Our client is from the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Naawan, Misamis Oriental. She is Ms. Amethyst E. Cortez, a tourism officer, and she handles the beautiful tourism in the said municipality. During the interview, we formally introduce ourselves and explain what our intention and purpose are for this initial interview.

Luckily, we were permitted to do the interview, and we started our interview. As time goes by, we continue to have a good conversation and randomly ask many questions that confuses us and picked our interest.

During our interview, she expresses her eagerness to market and promote Naawan as a tourist destination because it would be a waste if the Naawan with 26 waterfalls didn't utilize it. And of course with the help of other LGUs and the Governor, they have indeed promoted the beauty of Naawan well.

She also stated that the tourism in Naawan is mainly focuses on nature, waterfalls specifically. However, these beautiful tourist spots has some problem because sometimes especially if it is too hot, the water in the waterfalls dries up. And the tourist will know that if they go to that destination themselves.

We will get an extensive information about these beautiful tourists destination by arranging a formal interview next week. And we are looking forward to getting to see the beautiful and majestic waterfalls.

WEEK 1: Brainstorming

During our discussion and brainstorming at Function House in MSU-Naawan, we talked about our possible and potential topics for this subject as well as for our capstone project. As we find lots of sources and reliable references on the internet, we have lots of ideas to gather for our final title. While finding sources on the internet, we decided to come up with a topic, and these topics are: an Event Attendance System, a Resort Monitoring and Management System, an OJT Monitoring System, Web-based Church Management, and a Cooperative Membership Management System.

At first, we decided to choose the Resort Monitoring and Management System, but unfortunately, other groups already had it, so we had to give up this title. Among these topics that I mentioned above, all of them were rejected by our instructor. Despite of everything, Sir Gulfan really helped us with other good and potential topics.

He suggested a Payroll System, and we considered it until he suggested again a lot of topics that might interest us, and now we have come up with the Tourism Information System for Destination Management. And now we are continuing to work on it. We, the Keyboard 1960 group, were hoping that this topic would be as good as the other ones that were rejected.

As Sir Gulfan accepted this topic, we decided to choose Naawan Tourism for this project. We also considered the Initao, but we agreed to choose Naawan. This idea is quite significant to the tourism of Naawan, Misamis Oriental, as we identify and discover their tourism destinations, dining spots, and many more to promote their tourism. This project is also beneficial to tourists who want to explore more of Naawan and find some places that they love.

In general, this is the final topic that we chose for our group, and we were trying our best to explore this topic for the benefit of our future clients or stakeholders. So we are working on this topic right now together with my co-members Medio and Ramos and thinking about a nice title for it.
