Social Sound

Creative project by luxloop is tool to help turn social messaging into a choral performance of realtime conversation:

Social Sound is a performance tool designed to aggregate the flow of real time social activity into a rush of sound in the real world, providing a unique portrait of the social sphere at a given moment in time.

A choir of people gather in one physical location, using the Social Sound website as their virtual songbook, ensuring that each performer is reading a unique part. Tweets containing the key search term are channelled to the performers, who narrate the thoughts out loud.

California

About one year ago today, I took a vacation to California with some friends. It was magical. I hung out with some great friends, who love me for who I am and encourage me to be myself, even celebrate myself. That was refreshing. They didn't ask about the next five years of my life, but enjoyed the moment.  

It was refreshing to encounter people who seemed genuinely engaged with me as a person—not as a designer, female, or co-worker. I encountered people who were open to engaging in casual conversation as we waited in line or bumped into each other in a crowded restaurant. 

The most critical, influential element of a place is the people. The people make the place enjoyable, bearable, or fun. Friends and family are the ones you want to spend time with when things are good. They are the ones you turn to when things are bad. People are what lasts, not the place. As one moves through life they remember the people they meet, not the restaurants. As I anticipate the next chapter in my life, I've been thinking about the people I want to keep in touch with. The ones that mean something to me a I move from place to place, job to job.

Also, my tumblr has been dormant, and I am going to try and post more. I realize it’s valuable for me to externalize my thoughts, even if no one else reads it!

I’ve been thinking about good advice lately: how we seek it, why we seek it, who has it to give, and how it often finds us unexpectedly. We often stumble upon it, or someone listens to our stories of stress, grief, unfocused potential, or dissatisfaction and gives us advice when we need it most.

I read stories almost every day about how new technologies bring anxiety and difficulty into our lives as often as they help us.
