Pottery class demands focus!
Be it team-building and decision-making games during a career counselling session or blowing and bursting balloons as part of a Scavenger Hunt or just the pure unbridled joy of climbing a tree - we didn't forget to play! Many thanks to Sarwat Rattani and her team of volunteers for bringing the fun to both our camps this summer.
Students at the Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt School during a crash course in photography by Asad Shairani
The girls of Class 9 and 10 at the SMB Fatima Jinnah Govt Girls School got a crash course in entrepreneurship thanks to @FaizaYousuf #TodayAtCamp
#TodayAtCamp documentary film-maker Maria Patel introduced us to Mona Prakash, an incredible Pakistani girl who started a beautiful school in her village in Tando Allahyar - a great lesson for our students in the importance of believing in your dreams and of equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of caste or creed. You can watch the film by clicking on the picture!
The students at Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt School learned how to find and follow their passion thanks to advertising executive turned documentary film-maker Maria Patel, who led an interactive session making career choices and decisions practical.
Sports journalist Faizan Lakhani volunteered at the SMB Fatima Jinnah Govt Girls School to talk to our summer camp students about the history of Pakistani sports, going through the major highlights, achievements of national teams and superstars, specially women, and exchanged interesting and inspirational stories about players he has interacted with. They also learned a bit about sports journalism as a career.
#TodayAtCamp we got a lesson in stenciling for positive, happy graffiti with #Karachi artist and teacher @AnamShakilKhan, whose work you may be familiar with from Karachi's walls, painted over graffiti, specially by the containers on M.T. Khan Road http://t.co/mFgWlqtnfT
Health, safety and environment consultant Naeem Sadiq gave a lively and inspirational talk to the students and graduates of the Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School on How Citizens Can Lead Change. He had the students identify problems in their environment, such as open garbage, noise and air pollution, violent crime, etc. The students were then guided to come up with steps to solve these problems and they promised to implement their collective solutions in their homes and neighbourhoods. They also vowed to read a non-course book once a month as well as to do their bit to make their neighbourhoods and school gun-free. They will be asked to report on their progress in about a month's time!
Some of us now want to make cartoons when we grow up thanks to a great talk by animator @babrus #TodayAtCamp
Muketaj Salim, a Teach for Pakistan fellow, volunteering full-time at our summer camp gave a fascinating presentation on Life in Hunza about the people, music, food and traditions of her native valley.
Communications teacher and cricket buff Sukaina Ali wowed students by retelling the tale of her incredible against all odds journey to Mohali, India to watch the Cricket World Cup semi-final.
The students got a unique chance to meet some women from across the border in India and get their questions about Indian food, fashion and festivals answered first hand, thanks to an Aaghaz-e-Dosti Skype meeting organised by the lovely Surriya Islam, an inspiring young woman from Chitral who is teaching science to middle-school students at a government school in Karachi through Teach for Pakistan.
Listen to our amazing volunteer music teacher Sher Ghazi play the Pakistan national anthem on the flute. Some of those summer camp students in his music class at the SMB Fatima Jinnah Government School learned how to do this in two weeks!
Everything from morning shows to phuppo woes at Improv with filmmaker Hamza Lari #TodayAtCamp - great energy!
