TRUE CERTAINTY It is reported that ʿAbdullaah b. Masʿood said: “It is part of sure belief (yaqeen) [in Allaah] that you do not please the people by angering Allaah, and do not praise anyone [else] for what Allaah has provided you, and do not blame anyone for what Allaah has not given you. For verily, the provision of Allaah is not gained by the keenness of those who are keen [for you to have it], nor is it prevented by the hatred of those who hate [for you to have it]. And verily Allaah, in His justice, made happiness and joy in being certain and content [with Allaah], and made worry and sadness in doubt and anger.” [Hannaad b. Al-Saree, Al-Zuhd, article 535]

hey man, recently I have been struggling with my editing style. Every single picture i take looks totally different and has a different style and just makes me feed look very scattered and un-organized. What tips do you have on finding your editing style and making your feed flow so all your pictures go together? Thanks for your help man, love your feed.
Much love for writing Mason. This is a really good question, thanks for having the stones to ask.
Usually I like to edit by mood rather than a “go-to” aesthetic. Sometimes I’ll have a weekend with 4 or 5 gigs and they all need different vibes. I can’t edit dark and grungy for Nike because it doesn’t light the product/subject properly and it makes the brand look too mysterious. Brands usually like lighter edits and higher exposed images to make their product/message look very transparent. When I do music gigs for Red Bull or most recently, Soulection, those edits are all very dark and mysterious because they’re inside and they require more attention to detail than any other type of shooting in the industry. If you really wanna challenge yourself, shoot a concert, those are some of the most rewarding vibes to capture, however it’s tricky…almost as tricky as shooting sports.
My point in saying all this is that doing different gigs will get you different vibes. Once you get really settled into what those vibes are, you’ll be able to get a better picture in your mind of how you want it to look, composition/coloring/(grading if you do video like I did with Genesis). This answer is going to sound vague but I have a reason for explaining all this. The more practice you do with shooting EVERYTHING, your style will develop so much faster than just aiming for making everything flow. If you do 5 shoots in a week, aim to make the compositions similar and focus on the tones later. You’ll be surprised at not only how consistent your comps are, but your edits will start to dial in as well. Shoot, shoot, shoot.
Stay up,
Daniel

I recently bought a canon 55mm 1.2 film lens from 1977. It made me want to start shooting film but since I don’t have any 35mm film camera, I just set my DSLR to 1600 ISO and started shooting around midtown just looking for the perfect moment, not the perfect quality. Have a good one everyone.
