sometimes i wonder who i would've been if home had been quieter.

if fathers spoke gently. if mothers smiled without carrying the weight of everyone else's mistakes. if children weren't expected to become adults before they had even finished being little.

i wonder what it feels like to remember your childhood without flinching.

to not know the sound of anger by heart. to not find comfort in solitude simply because it was safer there. to not spend your tiny years in a room full of toys and an imagination trying its best to replace the company it never had.

i was surrounded by people, yet somehow i grew up introducing myself to loneliness over and over again. i remember spending my days with colouring books, toys and loneliness.

perhaps that's the reason I've grown up to be someone who prefers solitude, nature and peace. perhaps that's why my biggest dream has never been a big house, or a perfect life.

it's always been a soft home.

one where love is expressed openly. one where tiny feet run toward their parents instead of away from them. where little voices are never interrupted by louder ones. where love doesn't have to whisper to survive. where my children grow up believing that home is the safest place they'll ever know.

i hope they never understand the version of me that had to grow up too quietly.

i hope, one day, the little girl in me finally gets to come home through the childhood i create for them. 🤍
