What the heck... the egg that Mallow and Kiawe had been raising as part of an assignment (while Lillie was looking after the other) had started to glow. Mallow was currently holding the illuminating (and even shaking) egg as she turned her head up, “Kiawe!!!! Kiawe it’s about to HATCH.” She had seen the same thing (sort of) happen with Lillie’s egg… it was about time for them to meet their little hatch-ling.

“What?” the fire trainer asked, coming back into the room. He had been out finishing up his chores and had just gotten back in when he heard Mallow shouting for him. But after hearing what she said after she said his name, he rushed over to her and looked over her shoulder. “When did this start?” Kiawe asked in almost a whisper. His eyes, however, remained on the egg.

“Eh, they’re not all stupid,” she chuckled as she recounted the many times that it had happened. Sure - she had told the majority of them that maybe going to Lana or Kiawe would have been better for them… “I would have thought it simple… The jungle is filled with grass… a volcano with fire… but,” she sighed and nodded. “I get your point. They’re too excited to think about things fully!” Mallow was happy though - Hau had come to her the other day to ask for help with a grass type to battle Lana. So some trainers did give thought!

“How is your family?”

He grunted softly as a response. He didn’t exactly think her challenge was all that hard, then again he did have a fire based team, but they had discussed the route the trial-goers should take and agreed that Mallow should be last. And sometimes he couldn’t help but think that whenever a trainer comes to do his trial and all they had was a grass type. Shrugging it off, he rested more of his forehead against her head and just relaxed within the moment.

“Alright,” he answered. “How about yours? Hows the restaurant going?”

No harm had been done. “You sure? I do not wish to cause any inconvenience to you, or your trial.” He knew very little about the region other than the stuff which had been told to him before, and a bit after arriving to the islands. Though, the view from the volcano had been beautiful gazing over the island with a brief smile.

“Nurse Joy will definitely appreciate this, thank you very much.”

“I haven’t been told of any trainers come this way,” he answered with a small shrug. And to Kiawe this was his way to make it up to the man. “No problem. What exactly are you looking for?” He knew basically every plant that grew on the volcano thanks to Mallow teaching him. As long as he knew the name of the plant then he could at least get the gentleman to where he knew it grew. “Name’s Kiawe by the way,” he said, while extending his hand.

The urge to be a bit sarcastic raised within him but he managed to hold that back. “Yeah, I know him,” Kiawe answered with a casual shrug. “We’re friends after all.”

“What do you think?” She laughed as she turned in his arms and pokes her boyfriend on the nose. “If Salazzle was undefeated then they wouldn’t come challenge me.” She tended to send them to Lana - and then to Kiawe - before she would let them take on her Totem Lurantis. There was no way they would be able to handle him. Still, she had taken on challengers who had yet to take on either of the others and lost… so maybe she was just being cocky. “You know I always expect them to grab a water type after beating Lana before they head to your trial… and then a fire type before they come to mine… always surprised when they don’t.”

“I don’t know, someone could have been stupid enough to challenge you without going to Lana or me first.” Because that had happened before. Granted he only knew about it because she came and told him about it. It was at those times Kiawe wondered what those trainers were thinking. Most of the Pokemon in the jungle were pretty strong and not the sort that someone who had just beaten the first island could take on. Still his shoulders shrugged at little at her observation. “I don’t think some of them realize what exactly they’re going to be against when they reach us.” Though how they couldn’t realize they were going against a fire trainer was beyond him.

“Glad to hear it,” the grass type trainer chuckled as she tilted her head back and rest it upon the fire captain’s shoulder. She had missed the way that he smelled. He always had that charred scent around him. That volcanic experience as she would have said it was. Mallow certainly didn’t care if she smelled like burning wood by the end of their encounter. “How’d that last challenge go for you?” She had heard that there was a trainer heading towards the volcano so she was curious about how far they got.

His smile grew while he brought her closer to him. Nuzzling her forehead a little, he soon shock his head in reply to question. “Salazzle was able to beat them.” A content sigh soon left the fire trial captain as he took in her scent. The floral smell that always seemed to be on her always calmed him. Then to smell what he believed was his own scent mixed with hers helped too. “Anyone come and challenge you?” Kiawe had his doubts that happened but he thought he might as well ask. Once they beat her then it was time for the trial goer to challenge Olivia and that was always a good match to watch.

“Ah, actually I’m not a trial goer. I’m a Pokemon Doctor in training, Nurse Joy asked me to come here to get some of the herbs that were cultivated here. Sorry if I came here, if you want I can come back later when it’s far more convenient.”

“Sorry about that,” the captain apologized as he rubbed the back of his neck. He wished one of the helpers had told him that. Oh well, no damage done it seemed. “No, you can do it now if you want. I don’t expect any trial goers coming any time soon.” Lana hadn’t told him about any that had beaten her recently anyways. When Kiawe had spotted him, he had assumed that he somehow missed Lana’s message or it had slipped her mind the last time they spoke.

A small smile appeared when he felt her tug his arm back in to place. Doing as she wished, his arms moved around her waist and pulled her against him. “No, not without you,” he said and rested his forehead against hers. The whole reason he came by was to spend time with her. It might not have been that long but it felt like ages to Kiawe since they had spent some form of time together.
