Also given the fact some vegans wilfully neglect their pet’s diet for personal belief reasons you can in fact be a vegan and be ok with animal cruelty when its convenient for you.

tbh same here :/ as you see people often reblog the version where I added that bit about the fact that yeah no lie there are vegans that get caught giving carnivorous pets vegan diets to be more “ethical” when that’s a severe form of neglect to said carnivorous pets and will eventually kill them. I’ve had no less than 5 vegans come to my inbox over the last few months to tell me how I’m an awful person that clearly abuses animals because I pointed out animal abuses goes WAY further than simply not using animal byproducts. Seriously I got accused of participating in animal rape at one point for making that comment.

Because you know you have a quality moral position when someone points out a problem and accuse them of being a rapist. You may as well as throw in SJW and Nazi while you’re at it, go the full 10 miles with your defamation of character because you want to distract people from the fact your position is no more morally above a meat eater that puts a lot of effort to avoid killing animals in non byproduct using ways. Someone that dedicates their life to conservation and finding better ways to farm crops saves more lives in the long run then you not eating meat and wearing fur if you aren’t proactively doing the same things as this hypothetical conservationist. This is especially the case if you’re feeding a non herbivore nothing but plants because that’s a considerably more inhumane way of killing an animal that then anything farmers do.

This is what happens when people think they’re moral by default of being [insert thing]: their brain goes to mush because they no longer think about themselves on a critical level and become viciously aggressive when their brain is confronted with their cognitive dissonance. The same thing happens with religious zealots, staunch political party favouritism and heck social justice discussion here often fall into that area as well on all sides.
