Do you know that feeling When you worked your ass off at good grades Made the deans list twice in a year And felt damn skippy about it Then financial aid tells you they suspended your financial aid due to your academic performance And you think That can't be fucking right So you visit financial aid And they tell you that you're taking too long to finish school But you can file an appeal to still get aid So you spend all this time getting the documents together You scan that shit And you make a little folder for it on the desktop But the website tells you that you're blocked from uploading an appeal So you light the computer on fire Then you light the desk on fire Then you light the whole neighborhood on fire Because at this point What is the point? Cause that's how I feel in this moment too
Grease (dir. by Randal Kleiser, 1978)
“I said something about the Machiavelli play within the novel called Mandragola, pronouncing it so. Vivien threw in a quick correction, ‘Mandrágolá’. Of course, it was silly of me to be irritated. There is no reason why she should not correct me if I am wrong, but the correction came at what I felt the wrong moment. I was trying to build the narrative, and it seemed to me petty for her to interrupt me in that way. So, I simply repeated, the next time the word came up, ‘Mandragola’. Again, she said ‘Mandrágolá’’. I stopped and said, ‘What’s the difference, for Christ’s sake?’ ‘All the difference in the world,’ she replied cooly. ‘You’re pronouncing it incorrectly.’ ‘That’s how we say it here,’ I ventured. ‘Where?’ ‘In the United States, where we happen to be,’ I said. ‘Oh, do you?’ said Vivien. ‘Well, in the United States you pronounce it incorrectly.’” Mr. Garson Kanin recalling a little spat he had once with Vivien.
100 Favorite Songs Of 2016 (So Far): Kali Uchis, “Sabor a Mí”
Written by Mexican composer Álvaro Carrillo Alarcón nearly 60 years ago, “Sabor a Mí” is a staple that’s been turned over again and again by Latino artists. With nothing but an understated Rhodes and her own sultry, lingering vocals, Kali Uchis has delivered a singular interpretation that finds its sound somewhere between Trio los Panchos and “Nothing Even Matters” by Ms. Lauryn Hill. –Benjamin Naddaff-Hafrey

Last night
Last night was lovely. Jason and I went to our normal spot for pho, the sweet ladies there already knew our order. It was delicious. We went to or comic book stores and he bought me the newest issue of Papergirls. They remember us at Dragon's Lair and asked where we've been and if everything was okay. I hate on what Austin has become pretty often but last night I felt very much in love with my city. It's also nice having Jason back and getting back into our old rhythm of things. I don't know when he's going out of town for work again but I'm glad it won't be another two and a half week stint. That sucked.
House of Mystery #174 (1968)
‘Colonial,’ that adjective is very sanitized. It doesn’t mean what it actually means, which is this bloody process of removal and replacement and clearing of land and warfare.

Lewis’s law is an observation she made in 2012 that states “the comments on any article about feminism justify feminism.” Lewis has written frequently about misogynist hate directed at women online.[8]
Can we just repeat that a few more times,
“The comments on any article about feminism justify feminism.”
