On September 12th my nephew and his wife welcomed their new baby. Three days later, I was in their home when they arrived with their little daughter, Grace.

“Would you like to hold her?” I was asked and the answer was yes. I held her for a little while and hoped that, in time, she’d come to know me as someone who will love her and care for her as best I can. She won’t, thank God, be short of love.

Gardai in Swinford Appeal For Witnesses

Gardai in Swinford are appealing for any witnesses to an incident that occurred a few months ago near Kilkelly to come forward.

On Tuesday 29th May, at about 2 pm in the afternoon, a cyclist was found on the roadside close to the Applegreen 24-hour service station on the N17 outside Kilkelly.

It appears the male cyclist fell from his bike, but does not remember the circumstances of the fall.

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]uring the Baptismal ceremony, just after the child or adult is baptized, the priest or deacon says a prayer of blessing over his or her ears and mouth.

It is called the Ephphatha Prayer, coming from this weekend’s Gospel passage where Jesus restores hearing to a man who is deaf. The miracle is accompanied by the word “Ephphatha” which translates to: “Be opened”.

Please note that on the weekend of the Papal Visit to Knock there will be a change in Mass Times.

The usual times apply on Saturday evening with Mass in Urlaur at 6.30pm and in Glann at 8.00pm. On Sunday we will not have any morning Mass but will have two evening Masses, one in Kilmovee at 6.00pm and the other in Kilkelly at 7.30pm.

There has been quite a response to the suggestion that a bus is arranged to bring people travelling from the parish to Knock on Sunday, August 26th for the Papal Visit and the Mass following Pope Francis’ departure.

Celebrate 40 Years Of Kilmovee Shamrocks

The day marks the 40th anniversary of the club and promises to be a great day of fun for all the family

Kilmovee Shamrocks will hold a family funday at the pitch on Sunday, August 19th from 2-5pm. The entry fee is €5 per person or €20 per family, activities inside are free, e.g village tug of war, potato picking, penalty shoot our, crossbar challenge, football speed gun challenge and much more.

The sun beat down as folks enjoyed the activities in Kilkelly.

Stalls, crafts, traditional games and so much more were all available in Kilkelly today this August Bank Holiday Monday.

A real positive and fun spirit was felt around the town as people mingled, caught up with friends and enjoyed the great weather and atmosphere.
