My 150 Hours Internship

Hello, how is everything, everyone? 

Today, I have finished the internship!

It was such a precious experience and I am very pleased  that I have done it. 

The last day was pretty slow, however, I was asked to present my 150 hours experience. Yes, I have been preparing but I actually had never provided a presentation in Japanese so I was a little bit nervous. I did enjoy presenting and they even asked questions. All in all, it was not too bad.

I learned many things that I get knowledge only in the industry. I found that what I have studied in college is useful and practical. I realized that how important remembering commands for Sabre and Amadeus. 

I would like to thank everyone in the company from the bottom of my heart. I knew that they were busy but they spent the time to train me. I am looking forward to seeing you again.

Again, thank you for giving me an opportunity to have an amazing internship!

Last Week

Hey guys! How was your long weekend? How did you celebrate Canada day?

I went to Young and Dundas Square. They had foods and cultural performances ( *ˊᵕˋ )  But it was too hot to stay outside so I came uptown, which is Mel Lastman Square. (1st Photo)There was an exhibition for 1976′s TTC bus. It looked a bit smaller. (2nd Photo)The big difference between nowadays's TTC Streetcar or buses was its face.  I think it is cuter than buses now ( ♥︎ᴗ♥︎ )

From the evening, I went to the Downsview Park with my friends. There was music, foods, and fireworks ◟(ˊ꒵ˋ∗)◜∗.♪ We had a good time. (3rd Photo)

Last Year, I did go to the University of Toronto but I did not see fireworks. (I didn’t even know they have lol) I underestimated because I heard it is not as pretty as my country. But hey, it was over 15 minutes and actually I was satisfied.  (ㅅ˙³˙)♡

My first selling experience

Hello everyone! This weekend Toronto was filled with the rainbow color... 🌈 I went out to see the parade and I was amazed that everyone was so proud of themselves. They are so confident to be themselves. It was a big parade and lots of people were gathering.  ´ω`)ﾉ

Today I finally reached one of the goals that I set before; selling Japan Rail Pass. I explain what JR Pass covers, what they need to do in Japan, and refund policy. Also, issue the voucher(the exchange order). I am not allowed to get a payment but I did pretty good with just a little bit of help from my co-workers. I was very nervous but at least the second time was smoother than the first. And the third time, I was not very nervous anymore. 

...Just let you know that the JR pass is for visitors as a foreigner. Of course, my clients are Canadian. I did sell it IN ENGLISH.╭( ・ㅂ・)و̑

 It is an important experience for customer services. The 150 hours are just right on the corner and I will do my best to learn as much as I can.

1/3 Left

Today I reached 100 hours out of 150 hours as my internship. I started to use Sabre(Global Destination System that is used mainly North America) for estimating the cost of their itinerary. 

The outbound operation needs to put more effort to meet the clients’s need. Especially, if we are helping to estimate the total cost of their itinerary, we suggest more than one options.

We are kept telling that qualifying client's (selling is actually asking questions) is so important. But I could not imagine because I had not done or even had an opportunity to ask. 

Today, group of 4, who are millennium  just walked in and they wanted to visit Cuba, 4 nights &5 days. I had an opportunity to observe how my co-worker help to make a reservations. 

Their preference; Beach, Havana, and lowest fare available. (*´³`*)

She recommended staying Varadero, not Havana. Many all inclusive tour are operated in Varadero and it is cheaper than staying Havana. It is not too hard to visit Havana from Varadero(about 2 hours by driving). There are more optional tours that they can join after they arrive. 

My co-worker asked just a few question and she already had some lists that she could show them while she was asked some questions about the destinations. 

They left seemed so excited. I hope I can make clients happy and satisfied someday. Also, that remained me how important to qualify the client’s need and how I can qualify.

Outbound Operation

Weekends! (*・∀・)How are you going to spend this weekend? The weather forecast looks great though. 

I started to learn about the Outbound Operation from today.

At Toronto office, we use Sabre and Amadeus. I am happy that I can use my knowledge of GDS.╭(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و

Today, I was taught about the Japan Rail Pass. Only a few travel agent accept the reservations in Toronto. It is like Eurail and Britrail in Japan.

Eligible people are foreigners who are visiting Japan as temporary visitors and Japanese citizen who have lived in overseas 10 years and more.

You could take bullet train, limited train, and even local train. Also some JR buses and ferry.

There are Japan Wide Pass, Regional Pass. The regional one is divided into more specific areas.

The duration is 7, 14, and 21 days.

If you have ever considered traveling Japan by train, why don't you take a look? (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Woodbine Beach&Half way of it

Hi everyone how was your weekend? Anything exciting? (◍´ಲ`◍)

I went to the Woodbine beach this weekend. The access to get there was easier than the way to visit Scarborough Bluff Beach. I will visit again for sure.  The weather was not too hot and too cool. 

We let our feet in but the temperature of the water was cold. (ﾉﾟοﾟ)ﾉ Needless to say the sound of the wave was so relaxing and lying on the beach and do nothing is the best way to spend time with friends.  ヽ(*´∀｀*)ﾉ

I am reaching 80 hours of Internship, which is the halfway in total. That means, I am getting into the outbound (from domestic to international/from Japan to overseas)operation.  I am excited, but I am sort of sad because I finally can take processes smoothly at inbound. 

I do make mistakes and I do hate it. I feel very sorry for my supervisors because I know they are busy but I need you them to fix my mess. I was upset at how terrible I was. It didn’t become a big problem but I will be more careful when I deal with cancellation.  (>_<)

Little by little

Hi! Everyone. How is everything?  (。･ω･｡)

The internship is fine so far. Every single day, I have something to learn. 

Finally, I get used to what I do at an internship. 

I have been taught by my trainer with her desk. This week, thankfully I started to do my job with my own desk.  Still, I take a long time and make mistakes , however, it is a big step for me. 

I recognize that how careful my co-workers when they deal with clients or wholesalers. 

Because it is a summer, the number of trips are increasing. I do try to listen to what my co-workers are talking on the phone and seems the unexpected things happen often.  

They do care about clients and the company which is providing tours or transportation so they share what is going on.  

I think this is a very important thing not only to avoid the confusion for everyone but also be aware of the situation. By sharing the information everyone can aware of it so when someone gets a phone call, we don’t make clients wait. So far, no show for the tour, rejected to enter the country and delay of flights are common. 

My co-workers get in tough frequently the company which is operating to get the latest information. 

From next week, I will learn about the outbound operation. I am excited and I hope I can use the knowledge I got so far.

It’s been 2 weeks

Hello everyone! I still don’t know how I should greet and start blog...😂

It is been two weeks that I am working on an internship at H.I.S Canada Inc. Generally, I am aware of what I am supposed to do. (･∀･)

Checking reservations for hotels, optional tour or transportation from other blanches and official websites. Then confirming them by sending information to the wholesaler.  

If there is a cancellation or changes about passengers or their itinerary, let them know. Communication the wholesaler or clients directly via email is also part of my duty.

Yes, it is simple. However, I am not still good at the software and none of the mistakes has to be made. Speed is important but the accuracy is more important. I need more practice and take time to review.

Next week, it does reach the 50 hours, which is 1/3 of the total hours.... Time flies. I will do my best to get a precious experience as much as I can.

Getting an experience…

Hi there. I am back again. Today I got a very important experience.

My supervisor asked me to call a hotel that they charge Wi-Fi or not. One of the clients was curious and I had more things to ask them.

I was nervous. I have done before but my first language. So I did write down what I was supposed to ask and get ready.

However… it wasn’t enough. The fact was now they do not but within a few months, they might charge. Unfortinately they dont even know how much is it going to be.

I could get a answer only the part of the information that I mentioned and yes, I didn’t ask the current situation. I did make sure what the person was answering but I could have done more accurate.

As a result my supervisor had to call again and it remains me how important to make sure the information is correct.

What I am going to be careful next time… 1. Greeting and smile. Remember they can see you are smiling. 2. When you don’t get the answer exactly what you are asking, it’s fine but ask don’t just give up. 3. Ask feedback ypur co-workers or trainee after you hang the phone out. Did I do well?? What can I improve?

I hope I will do better next time.　╭( ・ㅂ・)و ̑̑

Nice week to start

I did start something new in this week...

BUT first of all, I would like to share the nice park near Finch station that I went to the picnic with my friends on Monday, May 21.  The name is Edithvale Park that takes about 15 minutes by walking from Finch Station. https://goo.gl/maps/VR4AsVUaCYt

The weather was not too shiny but not too cool so that was a perfect day. There was a lot of dandelions in a big field... I did not know that there is such nice place uptown.  

That was a nice day to relax and spend a time with your friends... Why don't you explore the park near you? Find your way to spend your weekends (´▽`)

Also, I started the Internship at H.I.S Canada Int. It is a Japanese travel agent that is well known in Japan. I am so happy that I join the team.

For the First week, I learned the atmosphere of the office. All colleagues and supervisors are Japanese. They all very kind and nice to me.   ヽ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾉ

I learned about the company, and what they sell and offer on the first day. Within a few weeks, I am working as an inbound operator. Inbound means customers are visiting Canada and sightseeing.

They have their own system like GDS called HOPS so I was introduced and trained how it works or what I am responsible. All reservations and information are provided via email or system.

Overall, my duty is contacting suppliers through email or facsimile so that make client's reservation completed. If there is a cancellation or any changes, I have to deal with it, too.

The most important thing that I learned is the speed to communicate the suppliers such as hotels. I have seen that Stop Sell is kept sending so that I have to deal with it even if I am doing HOPS.

I am still learning how to use these systems however, I will do my best and I would like to be the part of the team as soon as possible.
