╭ ODETTE  ╮ ​

    Odette was on break from the coffee shop, due to her boss commanding her to go take a break, the brunette finally gave in and decided to take a walk.  When she noticed a familiar face she decided to take a seat and looked over the chess board and laughed, “You sure you want to play against me?” She asked, pushing her low pony behind her shoulders and glanced over the pieces once more, it has been a while since she actually played a game of chess. 

“I want to play against anyone who’s up to taking my challenge. Including you.” TJ finished setting the board and lazed back in his seat. Readjusting the glasses that were sitting on his nose a small smirk rose over his lips. As enthused as he was to see it was his old pen pal that had strolled up into the competitors seat, TJ was committed to not breaking away from the role he had committed to mind.  He went ahead and made the first move to start the game. “You sound so confident. Do you play often?”

    [  Bodhi gave an awkward wave when he was addressed, a sheepish grin on his face. He looked at the chess board and back to TJ, slightly wide-eyed. This wasn’t how he was planning on spending an afternoon, but it would be an interesting change. Slow down and experience other people in a new way. Bo couldn’t help but give a warm laugh and a nod. “Yeah, I can totally sit with you,” he replied, taking a seat on the chair. “ I will warn you, I’ve never played chess. I don’t even know how to. Also, I’m probably not smart enough to play,” he warned with a sheepish laugh.

“Not smart enough?” TJ repeated with a sense of shock, making his first move on the board before Bodhi even sat down completely. The fond laugh from the other was a green light enough to get the game going. Shaking his head he looked at Bodhi with attentive eyes, intrigued with the stranger who had made the choice to join him. “I’ve never heard anyone tell me that before. If you’ve never tried it, how do you not know you’re an absolute pro at it? Mm… in fact You might be smarter than you know.” TJ nodded sagely to fight down a flickering grin. “Go on! Just make a move. Don’t even think about it. Just make any move that feels right.”

"Are you a avid Scrabble player by-by chance? I feel like th-this is something fun someone who pl-plays Scrabble would ask. My mom loved playing it a lot. Until she got too competitive with my dad and he "accidentally" sold it in one of our garage sales...Now she plays it on-on the ap-app...but as for my name. Y-Y-Yu—You can't do too much with Kim. The only thing I can get f-from Moon is 'moo'. Some cool things my first n-name spell is 'toon', 'note', 'tone', 'atone', 'ant', 'eat', 'one'....you can spell out 'jeon' too! I'm not sure why that word sticks out so much to me. In fact, doesn’t it sound more like it could be a name than a word? What an odd little word-name. It’s giving me this rising sense of euphoria the more I think about it. I guess it just s-speaks to me some deep, profound way...who knows...maybe in another life, I have an attachment to it somehow."

Surprisingly not too many people have asked him this! TJ perks up at the question, rocking forward eyes suddenly shimmering with his enthusiasm to talk on the topic. “I do! My older sis Daisy is a-amazing, yeah but I remember a lot of times while growing up when she and-and I would f-fight I would think ‘man I wish I had a brother instead of a sister!’ or ‘if I had a brother he would understand me better!’  I mean...the chance that we’re twins was really a one in a million, cookie-cutter Hollywood script only so-sort of thing but it’s a fun story to tell. Especially if we b-both become big in the sports world and en-end up tell-telling it all on Good Morning America!”

The impact of that show is STILL large to this day. Everyone still stares at the camera like Jim. It’s-It’s-ITS quite truly the only American adaptation of something that succeeded its original. 80 years from now when today’s society is long gone, I hope the Identity Theft scene gets played on a big screen in some grand TV museum archive. I want that entire scene on my gravestone, in fact. Identity theft is not a joke, Jim!” And PRISON MIKE?! C’mon. Maybe B99 will get there, but its got some ways to catch up.

TJ hisses as though he was in pain, placing a hand on his chest. “ Two big DC queens of my heart. This is a really hard but a really good question. I-I-I personally think there’s no con-contest between them. T-Terra was just... m-misguided. Her h-heart was in the right place and she-she meant well until the very end...Her death still hits. I remember watching that episode as a kid and it w-was h-hard to come to terms with... Harley is just loud and fun. Also good and misguided in her own way. But her ragtag power squad I think could run the Teen Titans to the ground. It doesn’t help that I really-really LOVED Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie is really owning that role.... I have biases all over the place on this. D-Don’t make me choose.

“Is boring the only thing that come out of your mouth when you talk or are you naturally like this and think it’s a fun trait to have? Because someone has been lying to you when they told you that you needed to speak up more. Like better yet, don’t speak at all if this is what you have you have to say.”

“But I-I...didn’t say anything?” TJ looked at her wide-eyed, a straw halfway off of his lips as her outburst had made him pause him mid-sip from his drink.Completely puzzled, he looked around him to see if there was anyone she could’ve been talking to. When he didn’t see anyone he gave her an odd look. “If you mean if sitting here drinking on a root beer float while I scroll on my phone is how i’m naturally like..th-then.. yeah. I’m just sitting here waiting for my friend to show up. Uh...“ He looked off more in search of the person he was waiting for. Had she been here hearing this TJ was sure she would suddenly grow 5 ft to set this person in place. This was such an awkward first impression of someone. TJ didn’t want to stir whatever conflict any further. “I can... move if you want? It’s no big deal.” In fact he was already standing up to leave elsewhere.

Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as TJ spoke up in an accent. What on earth was he doing? Izzy’s gaze darted towards the table where he sat up chess pieces on the board. She took a seat when he tapped the chair, head tilting to the side as she flashed him a grin. “I don’t know how to play.”

“Mmm, I see.” TJ just nodded, glad she had sat and joined him. The last thing TJ would’ve ever wished for was more sisters, but Lexa and Izzy were fun exceptions. Especially Izzy. TJ had only started to get to know his other family for a few months, but already? Izzy was maybe his favorite to pick and play around with. For a few minutes TJ kept nodding as he still picked up and moved around pieces purposely putting an awkward silence between them. Finally with a deep breath in he straightened his posture.  “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Confucius's words of wisdom dropped, but TJ started to switch some of the white pieces from his side of board with the black pieces on her side of the board. He still kept a confident face as he did so, so sure of his work. When there was two, nice, speckled sides to the board he looked at Izzy. “I, too, know not how to play, so. Th-this is Zebra Chess. Newest form of chess on the sc-scene. As the most seasoned pros— aware of it before any-nyone in the whole world knows of it— we now make up the rules as we go. You first. On the first move there’s no-no wrong move.”
