Kinderzine release!
cover by @frosty-chiion
Kinderzine Is Here!
hello everyone, i’d like to thank again everyone who worked on the zine with me and everyone who showed interest in any way at all! it’s been an incredible experience and i hope others feel the same.
the link to the google drive folder containing the zine is [here] and it’s free to read for everyone as of july 29. happy 2nd anniversary to kindergarten 2 :)
as a side note, the reader spread is the regular version of the zine meant for view on the web. the “for print” version is, well, for print -- in single consecutive pages and includes all the dimensions/specifications in the file name. however, both files are still in RGB colours, so printing will make the colours come out different than they look on screen, as printers use CMYK colours.
i’m not totally sure if printing places also use reader spreads to print, but the dimensions and specifications are overall the same as the “for print” version, except the pages ( excluding the front and back covers ) are connected as one long horizontal page instead of two pages, so the dimensions would change from 11′’x8.5′’ to 11′’x17′’. the bleed will stay the same.
Small (Urgent) Announcement
hey! this is just an announcement; mostly to the contributors of the zine as i know some of them ( who i haven’t been able to reach) follow this blog.
the dates for the final check-in and the deadline have been moved to 1 day later. the final check-in will now be on june 13, sometime past 2:00pm mdt. the overall deadline of all zine pieces will now be on june 20 11:59pm mdt.
secondly, this is concerning those who have not responded to any of the previous check-ins at all. please do respond to the final check-in tomorrow, as we will be discussing what you would like to include on the credits page ( name, online alias, and/or social media ), and your progress on your zine pieces ( whether you might need an extension or not ).
in the case that anyone who hasn’t checked in with me for at least one of the previous check-in dates does not do so tomorrow, and does not submit their zine piece before the deadline -- they will be automatically removed from the zine as a contributor.
Prompt Assignments
the prompt assignments have been announced earlier today on the discord server, but i thought i would announce them here as well in case anyone missed it, or people outside the server were wanting to see who would be doing what for the zine :)

you can find the application post [here]. all the application forms will close on March 13, 2021 - 11:59pm MST ( GMT -7 )
update to the [about]: added a section for zine mod expectations as well as another bullet point to every expectation that essentially says “ Be able to work amicably with everyone, do not cause issues with any of the zine members ”
the new addition points are as follows:
ZINE MOD EXPECTATIONS:
Be aware and mentally prepared that you are applying for what’s essentially a volunteer job. As in, an actual job that qualifies as a form of work in which you will be hired to accomplish specific tasks based on your application
Also know that at the end of the day, this is a just-for-fun project that will likely be more lax than any “official” jobs you have in your life considering I know most of the people in this fandom are young minors. You will not be worked unreasonably, and I’ll be personally checking in to make sure you’re not uncomfortable or stressed with anything you’re asked to do, but you will still have certain responsibilities and expectations to uphold as a mod for the zine itself
Be prepared for people to ask you questions about information involving the zine. You should be able to know enough about the zine, through the links on this blog, or the FAQ-- And answer questions, should you receive any. Try your best to answer them, but if you can’t, you can always direct that person to talking to the head mod instead
Graphic editors must have a sufficient portfolio to be considered as part of the graphics team. You should be familiar with using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign-- or an equivalent software. If not any of those, then you must show that you display strong graphic design skills whether from formal or informal education, in either your artwork or images/edits that use graphic design qualities
Writing editors must show skill and fluency with the English language, and pay attention to details such as typos and grammar. You should provide written works you have proofread, beta’d, or revised in some way. However, also be prepared for the possibility you may not be considered if there aren’t also people applying as graphic editors as explained in [this post]
Be able to work amicably with everyone, do not cause issues with any of the zine members, and do not abuse your power at any point; directed at any Discord mods especially
quick announcement to the applicants: if you see you’ve recently gotten a friend request from oumie bea on discord, let them message you so they can give you the invite link to the server!
right so it’s been a week since applications have been up!
just a couple of things involving prompt assignments, the question of when people will be joining the discord server, and for anyone who has been looking to apply as a zine mod:
i’m glad to say the amount of people joining thus far exceeds the minimum required to put in content for things like, the kg2 missions. not quite enough for every character, so that means a few people will not be assigned a mission, as of right now. they’ll still be able to participate with their additional content as default, in that case.
it’s still too early to decide anything, as we have until March 13 for applications to close. as for people’s preferences with who would want to be assigned a mission, and who would not-- that’s something we can discuss together in the fanzine server once we’ve invited everyone ( or if you’re not on discord, we’ll message you the deets and you can decide from there )
onto the matter of the discord server-- i, personally as the head mod, would like to wait until applications have been open for enough time, that we have an idea of which people should be assigned which prompt before inviting people to the server. as it stands right now, it’s not a requirement for that to happen, and we are able to invite everyone to the server currently!
i won’t be able to do that myself, as i’m very busy this week so this is in case the other mods are available to start inviting people. if not, then we’ll have to wait closer to the next two weeks for me to invite people to the server personally.
if you have changed your discord handle between the time you sent your application form, to until March 13, please let us know.
as for those who want to apply as a zine mod-- i probably should have announced this earlier but for the sake of efficiency, we can only accept writing editors if there are also people applying as graphic editors.
this is because the graphics team is currently only composed of myself and my s/o, and alongside being able to contact each other quickly, we also live a few minutes away from each other so there’s less need to send the files back and forth online. the writing goes hand in hand with the graphics ( edited before it gets put onto the zine, and edited after it gets put onto the zine ) so these files that the graphics team uses would also have to be transferred to the writing editors.
but because there are no graphics editors other than us, we don’t need to do too much file transferring and wait for timezones or anything. because of this, we decided it would be more efficient if the two of us just managed the text editing at the same time. if there was a 3rd person on the graphics team, then we would have to do more file transferring regardless, and if that ends up happening anyway, it’d make sense to share the files with any other writing editors as well. currently, that’s not the case so unfortunately we can’t take in writing editors without another graphics editor, and graphics editors do need to have a sufficient portfolio and be familiar with photoshop, illustrator, and/or indesign.
--as always, if there are any questions about these things feel free to ask!
So, good news everyone! It seems there was more than enough interest from the interest check post, from everyone here and a couple cool people on Instagram! We feel pretty confident now in saying that the zine can go on without a hitch thanks to you guys! :D
It sincerely wouldn’t be possible without you all. That being said, even though the interest check is now closed, it’s time to take another step forward! I’m happy to announce that Kinderzine applications are now open to all! It will be open from now ( Feb 13 ) to the next month ( March 13 )!
–Before we continue on to that, however, I do want to take a moment to remind everyone to please look at the Kinderzine links on the pinned navigation post over at the new info blog @kindergarten2zine!
“ About the zine ” includes information on the zine rules, and the expectations of contributor roles. The “ Schedule ” will tell you all the important dates and deadlines. The “ FAQ ” is full of questions you might find yourself asking– and equally as full of the right info that can answer them so please read it thoroughly! But again, if you still have questions that weren’t answered in any of the zine links, don’t hesitate to contact one of the mods! We’re happy to help <3
This next part below was written by @arquablysalty, who also made this post’s graphic at the top! The links to the application forms are down below as well. Have fun, and I hope you’re all as excited as I am!

Mods
Hey everyone! I'm Louillan, and I'm the creator of this project, head mod, and lead graphic designer.
I'm 21, my pronouns are they/he, timezone GMT -7, and I’m in my 2nd year of Character design & Illustration! I'll be the one to talk to if you have any questions about the whole zine process, or what you're supposed to do for the zine. I can answer questions if any of the other mods can't.
Fair warning, I'll also be all over the place running everything else, so I might not be available right away! Essentially my job is to make sure everything's going smoothly, everyone knows what to do, design the actual zine, and put everything together in the end!
I love Kindergarten 2 with all my heart and I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone will create!

Oumie is part of this project’s management team! They will be contributing to the behind-the-scenes of the zine management that essentially involve organizing, planning, or talking to the zine contributors.
They are 17, goes by any pronouns, and are a valued and wonderful member of this community and fandom with their engaging, supportive personality; and many artistic, creative contributions such as artwork and fanfics-- Some of which will also be featured in the zine so look forward to that! :D

Aqua is also part of the Discord mod team as well as the zine’s advertiser! She is in the GMT +8 timezone if you need to contact her on the server, and she’s the main artist for Kinderzine advert banners ( such as the lovely one you see at the top of the applications announcement post ) , and otherwise promotional content.
She is the youngest on our team but is more than capable of helping out if any of you need it. She goes by she/her and doesn’t mind they/them. She’s an absolutely talented artist who has also done quite a lot for the Kindergarten fandom, art-wise and community-wise; and I’m honoured to have her on the team and involved with this zine in general :’D

Frosty is another Discord mod! They are in the same timezone as Aqua, GMT +8, and will be available for contact typically around that time. Their role ( as well as the other Discord mods ofc ) will include helping out in the server, monitoring the chat and answering questions if you need it.
They are 16, prefers they/them pronouns, and like pretty much everyone here, is an amazing artist who is also a wonderful, valued person in this fandom and in general. They are a very kind, creative person and I’m super glad to have them helping on the mod team and contributing to the zine!! :Dc

About me: I go by many names, but currently I am content with Kohaku. My dearly beloved introduced me to Kindergarten so here I am. ( Nugget is my child. ) As my beloved has started this zine, of course I must accompany him. I am excited to see how it turns out!
I have been doing graphic design for three years and also draw, write, sing, and annoy my cat for fun.
You can contact me on discord at Lichen#5123 if you want to talk, request a logo design, get a tarot reading, etc. Have fun!
🍎 KG2 Fanzine Interest Check!
hey everyone, i plan on starting a kindergarten 2 fanzine! :D basically it would be a fanmade book of illustrations and writing, that is centered around the content of kindergarten 2.
we’ve had a lot of fun, interactive stuff within our fandom, as small as it is– like the kindergala, and dtiys challenges. i thought it would be a great time to band together to create a fanzine, and i’m thinking if we start now we could manage to get it done in time for the 2nd anniversary of kindergarten 2! ( july 29, 2021 ) or later, but the goal is around that timeframe for now
this would be purely for fun, and i would really appreciate it if people could spread the word about this! this post is to see how many people would either be interested in seeing this fanzine created, or how many people want to participate in making it. ( so, y’know, i don’t just set up everything only to have 1 person join or something. )
with that said, please reblog to help spread the word, and say in the tags/reblogs/replies or even private message me if you want– to let me know if you’re one of the people interested in participating, or if you really really want to see this happen! another post will be created linking the application form, if there is enough interest for this project so please stay tuned!
🍎 interest check will last for one week, saturday [feb 6, 2021] to [feb 13, 2021] 🍎
——🍎——🍎——
a few things about the plans for this zine:
it is entirely non-profit, volunteer run, and will be distributed digitally for free as a multi-page pdf. this isn’t a professional thing by any means, and there unfortunately will not be merch available ( i would totally ship out kg-themed buttons if i could, but my school’s button club where i make the buttons is unavailable due to the pandemic, and shipping does, unfortunately, cost money that this zine will not provide)
i will need artists and writers to help create content for the zine, maybe even a few other people to help with the mod team
as of right now, the number of pages will heavily depend on how many artists/writers/creators want to participate and how much content they’re willing to make within the 5-ish month period. i know this is a pretty small fandom, so we won’t be able to make as much content as a large fandom would
the qualifications to apply are not strict at all in terms of skill. i greatly encourage anyone to participate no matter your level as an artist or writer! this is supposed to be a fun fandom-involved project, after all :D
however, i do ask that you maintain a level of semi-professionalism with your attitude towards this project. even with a small fandom, this is still a huge project to take on and i sincerely ask that you only participate if you believe you’re capable of handling what’s expected of you
the zine will mostly be canon-based
again, depending on the amount of applications, content might just include the missions ( around 11-ish applicants minimum ) , or the characters ( around 27 applicants minimum )
ships, au’s, and oc’s are allowed! i just ask that these type of things don’t outnumber the main canon content, so there might be a limited amount of slots for these
please don’t be nervous about applying if you’re interested! this isn’t meant to be Super High Quality Professional work, and this my first time doing anything involving a fanzine too lmao, we can learn together :’D
you don’t have to draw/write a new thing for the zine; you can submit old work by all means! as long as it fits the planned parameters for the page sizing. drawing new work is preferred, however, because of the sizing
digital artists: 1 page size 8.5 x 11 inches 300dpi | half page size 8.5 x 5.5 inches 300dpi | 2 page spread 17 x 11 inches 300 dpi – rgb format, full colour art
traditional artists: don’t worry too much about the size of your picture. just try to take it as clear as possible, or scan in high quality. be aware your photo may be touched up digitally by the graphics editor if needed
writers: 2500 words are the max for your fic
some of this information is subject to change once applications are open
About the zine
The Kinderzine is a fanzine for the video game Kindergarten 2 by SmashGames! This is a non-official, non-profit, volunteer-run project, and Kinderzine is in no way affiliated with the Kindergarten or Kindergarten 2 game franchise, or with SmashGames. The zine is fully digital and will not be available in physical printed copies. It is SFW PG13 and will be available for the public at zero cost.
We’re currently looking for people to contribute as artists and writers, and for a few people to help with the mod team! Please check out the [FAQ] if you have any questions, and check out the other [links] for more information!
CONTRIBUTOR EXPECTATIONS:
Artists:
Finish and submit your illustrations within or on the deadline
Draw your pieces according to the correct sizing and quality specifications
Be responsible for following the theme of your assigned drawing prompt, focusing on mostly that specific character or the mission events
May create additional pieces related to Kindergarten 2, but not as strictly adhering to the canon game
Cover artist(s) must complete a graphically interesting illustration that will be displayed at the very front/back of the zine (basically there are higher standards if you do want to be a cover artist)
Be able to work amicably with everyone, do not cause issues with any of the zine members
Writers:
Finish and submit your fanfics within or on the deadline
Write within the 2500 word limit
Be responsible for following the theme of your assigned writing prompt, focusing on mostly that specific character or the mission events
May create additional pieces related to Kindergarten 2, but not as strictly adhering to the canon game
If wanting to collab with an artist, you are expected to communicate well with the artist and talk to the mods to initiate this arrangement
Be able to work amicably with everyone, do not cause issues with any of the zine members

ZINE RULES:
Take care of yourself first and foremost. If there's anything going on in your life, if it's too much work to handle, if you just can't bring yourself to create anything, absolutely feel free to step down from contributing. Please try not to do this right before the deadline, but unexpected stuff happens sometimes and it's alright.
This zine is SFW PG13. Sexual content is absolutely not allowed. Blood, gore, violence, and dark humour is allowed considering the canon game's content, but it will be prefaced by a trigger warning before the page that this happens for art, or before the story for fanfics. -----In order to put in the trigger warnings, please let us know in advance that you're planning to draw or write something potentially triggering to others so we can plan the page layout accordingly.
If you change your mind about what you want to draw or write about, please run it through the head mod (Louillan) first.
Please keep your content mostly canon focused. You can make additional works where things like non-canon ships, AUs, or OCs can be included. There are only a limited amount of slots for this, however.
Please try to finish your art/fics before or on the due date. There will be periodical check-ins where a mod will see how much you've completed. Depending on the circumstances, there may be extensions in the future. The dates for everything will be kept track of in the [schedule] post and in the Discord server.
Max word count for fanfics is 2500 words.
The zine is entirely digital, so keep in mind it will not be printed or physically shipped to anyone. Contributors will get the PDF link early, though.
You can submit older artwork created before the zine's production. As long as it fits the page dimensions, or you're okay with cropping the art so that it fits. Older fanfics are fine as is, provided it's canon-based unless you're submitting it as an additional work.
Your content is your own and you're allowed to post it before the zine publishes, if you choose to do so.
Contributors have the creative freedom to make anything they want within the missions/characters that get assigned. If that's too broad and you can't think of anything to draw/write, let one of the mods know and we can give you a more specific prompt.
Page dimensions are included in the [FAQ]
FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine is short for magazine or fanzine!
The Kinderzine is a fanzine produced for the game Kindergarten 2 by SmashGames, a non-official non-professional project by some dedicated, talented people in this fandom.
It will feature art and stories, and other content about the game + a small portion of fun fandom content like AUs, non-canon ships, and OCs. It will not be spoiler-free.
Overall, it functions mostly as an art book with some stories mixed in.
Will this be free or will I have to buy this zine?
It's completely free! There will be no money earned from this project in any way, and the link will be publicly posted on the intended release date for no cost at all.
What will contributors get out of this?
The satisfaction of doing a fun activity with wonderful people in the fandom! /hj
No but really, you get to take part in creating something really cool that you, me, and all of us can be proud of. You get to have your own finished work when this is all over, along with everyone else's!
No one will be getting paid in money, as this is a volunteer project and the zine is free. But all contributors will get access to the PDF link earlier than the public, and we all generally get to have fun together!
Is this zine digital or will there be physical copies?
Only digital. It will be a PDF on Google Drive, available to view and download at anyone's discretion.
There will be no printing of the Kinderzine, and no shipping of physical copies. There will be no merch (buttons, stickers, keychains, etc) available either; only this zine.
What are the zine specs?
1 full page (and front or back cover): 8.5 x 11 inches 1 half page: 8.5 x 5.5 inches 2 page spread: 17 x 11 inches 2 page connecting cover: 17 x 11 inches + 0.75 inch bleed (a bleed is a border around the image where that area will be cut off from the final (usually printed) product)
300 DPI | RGB (not CMYK) | Horizontal or vertical | you can add a bleed or not, but it's not going to be printed either way
You won't be yelled at or anything if you don't follow the DPI or colour guidelines, but it just makes it easier to put it into the editing software. Full-colour finished artwork is preferred (shading is not mandatory; flat colour is acceptable).
Will there be NSFW content?
This zine is PG13. Content of sexual nature is absolutely not permitted in any form.
Following the canon Kindergarten 2 game, there maybe be things like canon-typical blood, death, violence, or dark humour. These things along with anything else others may find to be 'sensitive topics' will be prefaced with appropriate trigger warnings.
How old do I have to be to apply?
As I said, the zine is PG13. Please be 13 years old or older, if you wish to apply.
If you are almost 13 in a few months or even a few days after the time of the application period, then you are still 12 during the application period and cannot apply. Sorry. If you lie about your age to get in, you will be kicked from the project immediately.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Absolutely! But please note that the more roles you have, the less work you may have to do on one specific role, as your workload will be distributed across your other roles.
For example: if you are a mod and contributor, you might only be able to draw/write 1-2 things maximum depending on your mod position. Whereas someone who is only a contributor might be able to draw/write 2-3 things maximum, if they wish to do so.
How many contributors will be accepted?
Currently there isn't a specific amount of slots we need for artists or writers!
The amount of contributors required to make this zine happen at all, at the minimum is 11 applicants, regardless of artist or writer. But we would be incredibly happy to have more than that join this project. If there are way more applicants than needed, we may either try to find a way to fit you in, or have to unfortunately exclude some people. Only time will tell :’)
What is the schedule?
The current schedule can be found in [this link]! Dates may be changed in the future, and will be announced to contributors.
What if I need to drop out?
That's perfectly okay! Just please be sure to let one of the mods know as soon as possible so we have time to prepare any rearranging/reorganizing of zine content that might occur after your absence.
Can I post my WIPs/sketches/writing/finished pieces even if the zine isn't published yet?
Yeah that's fine! You own your content and are free to do what you want with it if you're that excited about it.
Can my piece include a ship/AU/OC/headcanon?
If it's one of the main mission/character pieces, then no.
Small headcanons are alright but if they're more obvious and non-canon-based you should talk to me about it first. Canon ships are allowed (Bob x Applegate, Lily x Nugget, Monty x Carla (even if it's kind of unrequited), etc). OCs can be in the background as a cameo, but they can't be the main focus of your work.
If you're doing an additional piece, then yes absolutely! Keep in mind, however, there will be limited slots for these additional pieces.
Can I submit older work created before the production of this zine?
Yes, as long as it fits the page specs, or you don't mind cropping the art so it fits the page specs to a smaller page size!
Older fanfics are fine as is, provided it's canon-based unless you're submitting it as an additional work.
Can I draw/write a different character/mission?
Please ask a mod about this. If we can find someone willing to switch with you, you can.
Don't switch with people more than once, and don't do it without talking to a mod first. If you are going to switch with anyone, you're only allowed to do that before the 2nd check-in date. Anything past that date is not allowed.
What exactly can we draw/write once we're assigned a specific character/mission?
Contributors have the creative freedom to make anything they want within the characters/missions that get assigned.
If that's too broad and you can't think of anything to draw/write, let one of the mods know and we can give you a more specific prompt.
Will there be extensions if I can't finish by the deadline?
Yes! Just let one of the mods know so we can expect your final work at a later date.
Your piece will still need to be finished before the graphics team finishes the early-access PDF. It's greatly preferred that you do finish by the deadline to make this easier for them to finish their job, but if you really can't, that option is available.
If you're unable to finish before the graphics team finishes the final public-ready PDF, your work will, unfortunately, not be included in the zine at that point.
What if I'm a traditional or phone artist and don't know how to keep my art to the page specs?
Traditional artists should be able to either scan their art in high quality, or if taking a picture, take the picture as clear as possible with only/mostly your art within frame; the graphics team will try to take care of sizing.
Phone artists (or really any digital artists) can have canvas templates that are the correct specs, available to copy or download to draw over that I can personally provide for you (though I don't know yet how well this method will work).
If there are any more questions or you need more help, please contact a mod.
If your art is too small, you can try using http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ to enlarge it without hurting the quality too bad.
If it still doesn't fit the aspect ratios, the graphics team can still make it work so don't worry! We really, really prefer that everyone follow the page sizings as much as you can though, unless it's really impossible for you to do so.
Wait, there’s a Discord server? Can I join?
Only if you’re one of the artists or writers who is directly contributing to the zine! Sorry! It’s a private server where those who are directly involved in the zine will be invited.
If you’ve already sent in an application, you will be invited to the server on, or a few days before, the date that applications close. Which will be March 13th, as of writing this, so please be patient until then. The date that invites will be sent out may change, so keep an eye out for that too.
What if I don't have a Discord and can't join the Discord server?
That's perfectly fine! You don't have to make an account or join the server if you don't want to either.
As long as you have an e-mail, or a social media account that one of the mods have + the ability for us to private message you, we will keep you updated on anything Kinderzine related!
The server is really just a way for us all to communicate with each other, mods and contributors alike, and keep in touch with the mods more accessibly. But the important stuff will still be communicated with you, and if you contact a mod somewhere other than Discord, we'll get to your message as soon as possible.
Please direct any other questions not on the FAQ to either the Discord server’s #zine-questions channel, or this blog’s/my main blog’s ask box or private messages.
