Hi! The spell I’m sharing with you all is a popular and well-known South-American spell called, “ Limpia” which means literally cleansing in Spanish. This spell works best for protection, cleansing, grounding. The idea of the ritual is that since the egg is a living thing that can absorb your troubles and worries. It’s really, really easy to do, you probably have all the ingredients for this in your own home! 

Ingredients 

Egg (brown or white, whatever you have/prefer)

Salt 

Pepper (optional)

Candle (white but any color is okay depending on your intention)

A large glass of water 

Tarot cards (optional)

Incense sticks (optional)

First, I take the egg I’m going to use for the ritual and let it rest in it my mouth (you can use you hands if it makes you more comfortable though) to warm in up and familiarize it to my energy so it works. Sit there with the egg in your mouth and let yourself think of our intention while taking deep breaths.

 Afterwards, when I feel the egg is room temperature I like to take take deep breaths, do some stretches to ground myself and clear my head for the ritual. Then kneel (or criss-cross applesauce if you will) in front of the material you have, make a salt circle of protection around it. 

Now this next step is unnecessary so don’t stress about but I like taking my tarot cards and shuffling them to determine the energy of the ritual and sometimes take the cards I want to manifest the outcome I desire. Also I take my evil eye jewelry and put it in the circle so charge them and to boost my power.

Light the white and hold the egg in your hands while breathing, close your eyes and deeply visualize what you wish to banish from yourself; people, thoughts, situations, evil eyes, spirits, entities, deities, negativity, any self doubt. 

When you feel ready slowly open your eyes and circle the egg over the fire of the candle to charge it with your intent and “the fire of life” so to speak lmao

Now, slowly, with your egg in hand, rise from your kneeling to a standing position. Place the egg at the back of your head – we place it there because some believe that energy and otherworldly communication begins at the back of the head (around where the third eye is located) and run it towards your third eye.

Without changing or removing the egg from your person move it all along your body to cleanse your aura of what is blocking, worrying, holding you down. All the while think about your intentions and desires run the egg all the way down to your feet and try to get as much of your backside as you can as well.

Limpia (clean) doesn’t always mean limpieza (cleansing), but it’s a good translation I guess xD since here we simply call it limpieza con huevo.

I use this too, specially to cure the evil eye! This is a really good explanation for any latinxs/Latinos/latines out there that may want to include this in their craft!

And for white people, I’d prefer if you didn’t use it at all (because seriously why would you want to use this if you have nothing to do with latino cultures) but since it isn’t something extremely religion-related, nor is it specific to Brujería, it’s more of a folk-type of practice that lay people do too, and some latinos and brujas I’ve talked to about this seem ok with other people doing it as long as it’s correctly done, I’d say sure, use it but always remember to do it correctly and respectfully, and just as long as you give credit where credit is due and know and value the culture and traditions this practices come from. Don’t appropriate (cause I’ve seen white people on this site trying to appropiate this already, and I just can’t stand it, they were saying things like “just pass an egg around you and that’s it” when it’s more complex than that)

I’m Latina (Dominican, to be more specific) and I’m very acquainted with brujeria (it’s the closest thing I would call my own practice) so I appreciate your own passion about making sure people are aware of their own racism, prejudices, and entitlement.
