“ That’s a rather vulgar language to use when in the presence of a lady, mister. Or at any time, really. ”
“Is that so? Does this ‘vulgarity’ offend you?”
“Uhm– Excuse me, I seem to have er– lost my way? Could you point me in the direction of the, uhm– the gardens?” The raven haired girl stumbled over her words, an embarrassed blush creeping onto her cheeks. This was the third time this week she’d lost her way. But to be fair, the school’s campus was rather confusing.
Out of the corner of her eyes she could see the speaker; their flustered and obviously innocent features not unseen. Carelessly pushing aside a stray flower Alena crushed it under her foot before pondering if the act of replying. Since it was a slow day though, entertaining the idea of this plaything might prove to be something. Not changing her position she spoke, voice clear and low, “You most definitely seem to have.”
“Unless it’s a matter of life or death I wouldn’t recommend talking to me right now. I haven’t slept in two days and I will hurt someone. Unless you have hot chocolate then we’re cool.”
“I wasn’t planning on such a thing--though it’s amusing that you would even think that you could, darling... In the end I have nothing of the sort. Is this the part when you attempt to threaten me again?”
“A Slytherin has just as much a right to be here as anyone else.” The pureblood narrowed her eyes as two Gryffindors stood before her, blocking the entryway to the Owlery. Her hand gripped tightly on her wand, prepared to take action if they didn’t move. Knowing she didn’t play, the duo ran, leaving Evelyn to visit her owl in peace.
Eyes curious in their calculation, focused disinterestedly upon the situation at hand. It was pathetic, warbling humanity at it’s finest, attempting to grasp at something and someone they knew they could never have. And also hilarious in that very same sense. A smile wickedly upon her face, Alena lounged on one of walls--brittle stone cold and crumbling beneath her fingertips. “What a way to tell them.”
“ …So, do you mind if I sit here? I sort of tripped and ran into someone and as I was saying sorry they were making death threats and it just turned into this whole ordeal and I made a run for it. Ran into a wall. I’m trying to blend in right now. “
“The death threats all make sense now to me. If you wish to have one acted upon feel free to... Though maybe next time try a more appropriate approach to life that’s less invasively pathetic?”
“Let me cut to the chase: how much d’you want to switch rooms with me?”
“Truly that was quite the chase for the likes of you... Such an untempting offer though. No.”
She knew herself, how she had slowly over, over the years, become a cat, a wolf, a snake, anything but a girl. How she had wrung out her girlhood like death.
