valerijanovakâ:
It took her a moment to calm her racing heart enough to recognize the redheaded man as Arthur Weasley. And she could tell by the subtle shifting of his face that he recognized her too.
As the guards settled him into the other cell she sunk to the ground, pressing her back against the wall so she could see everything in front of her. They would leave eventually, and then they could talk. But as they stepped out she felt her throat tighten and knew she was dangerously close to crying, which was stupid. This was far from the worst thing to happen to her, and she had always known getting arrested was a possibility â but knowing and living it were two entirely different things.Â
âUm,â she cleared her throat, struggling to keep her composure. If she wanted people, Arthur in this case, to take her seriously she couldnât seem like a child. Donât cry. âum â I was working. With Lucius Malfoy⌠well, in his office anyway, translating some documents for some visiting officials from Bulgaria. They justâŚâ she trailed off, assuming he didnât need a play by play, considering the same thing had probably just happened to him.Â
She wanted to ask him more â she had little idea of how the legal system worked in this country, but this felt odd. But she still wasnât convinced theyâd leave them alone for long enough to have that conversation. And she still thought the best decision was to downplay her knowledge of anything. âI have no idea.â That much was true, even though she might have some guesses. âDo you? I would imagine itâs something similar for the both of us, considering the timing.â
After being pulled and escorted from his office, Arthur could hardly pinpoint his thoughts on one particular thing. This had been one of the most damning thing since he was taken hostage a year ago.
There was an echoing silence throughout the chamber he was in. The magic practically radiated off the walls and Arthur had enough wits to know that going near any of it would be more harm to him. As seconds ticked by, Arthur concentrated on what he was doing there and why they took him into a holding cell. He hadnât done anything to bring attention to himself or so he thought. If they didnât have anything on him then they couldnât press charges and therefore, Arthur wouldnât be seeing Azkaban.
When he saw Valerija, there were things that clicked into place. The only thing he shared in common with her was working at the Ministry and then the Order. He had heard about routine checks being done at the Ministry after suspicious comments were made towards the ministerâs office, alluding to employees being in the rebellious groups. Arthur believed that the Order was temperamental but every action was just a reaction towards the Death Eaters. It was a repeated vicious cycle that Arthur only participated in when they needed an extra hand.
Arthurâs eyes darted around when he heard the tremble in her voice and sucked in a sturdy breath. âYes, indeed there is. I believe they arrested us for suspicious activity.â Arthur made sure his voice was low and angling towards being in the Order in case people were listening. âThey made an announcement earlier this month, but I didnât think...surely they donât think this is proper authority.â
