Of all the faces he would encounter in the place, this was the last one he wished to see but once again fate had its ways to mock the king.

“You-...”

A voice full of contempt. The usually composed voice of the king was obviously full of hatred and contempt.

“Why are YOU here, faker?!”

The last time they saw each other, Gilgamesh had been ridiculed by this young man in such a way that his power as a king had been completely looked down on and it was a stain to his name that he couldn’t stand. He had lost an arm and was even finished off by the fake hero that spawned from this same man and somehow he had still showed up in this same place. His sole presence was mocking his very name.

Hard for him to keep his extreme emotions in check when faced by an Archer-classed Servant, the most arrogant one at that. The way he was being toyed around the finger of the other, he truly despised it with the very core of his existence. If there was a way to avoid having to meet the King of Heroes, he would’ve done it already. Alas, coincidence had done nothing but rub onto his face that he has the worst luck of them all.

Cu Chulainn gritted his teeth, his eyebrows knitting at the sight of Gilgamesh’s face– he wanted to throw a punch towards it. “Ya’ can bet on your sparkling ass I would’ve, Archer.” Never did he get the chance to cross deadly paths with the other and although the chances of him winning would be slim if they were on the same wavelength, Lancer would still put his life at stake if it meant beating the bastard up at least once.

“I have no time to spare and be yer’ damned entertainment!”

If Glgamesh got any pleasure from mocking the irish hero, it was because his reactions were so easy to predict. Still, Gilgamesh didn’t want to push the lancer to a point where a fight would really break because even without their signature weapons, it would be a bother to deal with his skills without his real weaponry.

“You say that but do you really have anything else to do?”

It was a simple question but it was one to close off paths for the lancer in order to force him into staying or at least to avoid an escape through psychological means. Even if Gilgamesh wasn’t near him, would the hero have a purpose here? Did he even know the place? Would he wander aimlessly until he found himself exhausted? It was a simple question that entailed all these things.

[Aslan mused, it was easy to distinguish between monarchs and normal citizens. It’s the way they tend to hold themselves at a higher standing or talk with such boldness.

He still reminded him of someone, but couldn’t figure it out, yet.]

“Let me introduce myself, my name is Aslan and you are?”

At least the speaking lion was capable of discerning royalty from normal people so Gilgamesh smirked in delight. As expected, the name was not that of any of his pet lions so he proceeded to introduce himself as well.

“It is a pleasure. I am Gilgamesh, king of Uruk.”

Lions were animals that Gilgamesh was pretty fond of and he wasn’t entirely foreign to talking animals so he found this not weird, but actually welcome.

“You’re a king? That’s cool.” No wonder he was acting like an pompous jerk. That was how kings were supposed to act, right? That or be old, kindhearted fools. Probably. The closest thing to a king Yuuki had ever met was the ‘Emperor,’ and this stranger’s personality was similar enough so far. 

“Except you can’t survey a whole lot from down here. There’s a really tall building with an observation deck near here where you can see a lot further. I can show you.” 

The boy was a little different from the other humans he had met so far and he seemed to at least see the king with admiration so he was fine with this. As long as whoever was in front of him knew their place and looked up to him, he would allow them to carry on and even proved himself useful with a suggestion that really fit him.

“Interesting. In that case, I will allow you to lead the way.”

Looking the place from a high place really suited the king so he decided to follow this kid towards the place he mentioned and see for himself how good of a vantage point it was.

‘Your opinion of me changed quickly’, she didn’t say, though her natural curiosity ran safely rampant behind closed lips. Ayaka preferred indifference to his sudden declaration that they were to be wed and would not risk bringing it to the fore with careless words. Instead, she remained silent, wondering at the fact that she had been encountering more and more of the Servants home to her world.

On the subject of Masters too, she found herself allowing her thoughts to wander. She had never seen him in the presence of his own, even now separated when it would be unwise to leave one unaccompanied. Maybe that skill of the Archer class was so powerful… or he simply didn’t care for the survival of his Master, he had never struck her the type.

“I-It seems so.” At the insistence of her survival instincts, a passive agreement was offered, though the lack of force behind it was likely obvious.

The King’s insight told him that the girl seemed to realize who he was. If that was the case, his opinion about her improved ever so slightly. Still, her lack of words was really off-putting.

“Speak. I grant you permission to speak in my presence. You seem like you had something more to say.”

Gilgamesh’s tone of voice was commanding and carried with him a natural authority that was beyond that of a mere person. It was obvious that his position as king wasn’t just for show. However, too many people had forgotten the respect and fear of it so most people remained ignorant to this and merely labeled it as some guy with an ego.

The King of Uruk liked strong animals and Lions were specially to his liking since they were the kings of the jungle, just like he was the king of humans.

“Hoh?~ A talking Lion? This is really interesting. If you were one of my pets you should know me but I have a feeling you are one of a kind I have not seen before.”

Combat was all that Rider lived for. Whether he won or lost. He made no excuses nor had any regrets. However, that did not mean that his thirst for battle would be sated. A loss would do nothing more than fuel him to fight once again. To claim victory from even the most impossible of circumstances. What was more enjoyable than that? How could he possibly be content with facing opponents weaker than the one who stood before him now? 

“Or could it be that you have lost your fighting spirit?”

There weren’t many men that earned Gilgamesh’s respect but this man right here was one of the few who did.

“Amusing. Very well, if you want me to display my power once again, I will do so when I have recovered what’s rightfully mine.”

Right now, fighting when both of them had not only their weapons stolen from them but also their whole fighting potential down to a disgraceful amount would only earn a victory that neither of them would accept where they to lose and thus being the worst time to engage in combat.

“That is, unless you change your mind and decide to pledge your allegiance to the true king here.”

Gilgmaesh had no actual intention of taking Iskander among his ranks and he probably knew it so he merely joked about it because he knew a man with such ambition as him wouldn’t easily agree to an invitation like that.

Mongrel, eh? It had been a while since Setsuna was referred to as something so low and meaningless. Not since his days as Soran Ibrahim had he heard a word quite so strong be used to describe him, derogatorily or otherwise. Even still, there was no particular quarrel that he had with this man, so he supposed that he could simply shrug off the insult.

「I was under the impression that these streets were meant for all the citizens here, not just yourself.」

If this was his own world and this person had backtalked him like this, he’d have found it inexcusable but having grown up a little more tolerant to the ignorance of the masses, the king instead tried talking with the assumption that everyone here was truly ignorant of his identity and status.

“If that’s the case, your eyes must truly be those of a mongrel if they cannot realize you are in presence of a king.”
