“You were born at the right time, in the right place, with the right personality. Quite a bit of luck.” Regardless of what Lukas said and the words he chose to tease Kinsley, his actions spoke infinitely louder than his words. Both in the amount of time he spent around Kinsley, whether or not he spent a majority of that time getting under her skin, and the way he didn’t instantly leave with a disgusted look and a snide comment the moment she suggested something like hanging out on a couch and eating a pizza. “Is that your idea of relaxing? Not even a class of blood and wine? Surely we can do better than pizza.”
“Lucky, lucky me to get to spend the last thousand plus years with you around.” There was an obvious sarcasm, but one with a playful undertone because the truth was, she couldn’t imagine what her life would be like without him or his family around. Her eyes rolled before she headed in the direction of what she considered home, nudging him along with her. “Alright, fine. I’m sure I can manage that, but only if you don’t judge anything else for a while, I’m all judged out. If I want to watch Christmas specials, you’re just going to have to deal. Or at least, only udge the cheesy movies because that’s really half the fun.”
anything you're looking forward to during the holidays?
“I get to watch Rudolf and Year Without a Santa Clause. I guess at some point during the winter I’ll have to have a birthday, but I’m also positive Lukas is going to steal it and do something ridiculous.”

“I thought the entire world agreed that moist is a word that should never be used?”
When and where were you the happiest?
“A bit over a thousand years ago – I was human, and my marriage wasn’t the best, but I had two beautiful little girls that brought me purple flowers and meant the world to me. Everything after that just feels like surviving.”

“Everything I say is charming.” He stressed with a grin. The roll of her eyes and sarcasm in her voice didn’t go unnoticed, but he did choose to ignore it. “You’re just lucky. Haven’t you realized that by now?” With Kinsley so busy he hadn’t seen her and after a few days had passed he’d decided to go looking instead of waiting for her to emerge. “By now I was sure you’d be deeply deprived of my company. Before you went into withdrawal I decided to take it upon myself to fix the issue.”
“I owe your presence entirely to luck then? And here I thought you just liked me. Really, I don’t know if I should be offended or relieved.” She was trying to keep up the sarcasm, but her body felt like it was running on fumes, all she could do now was shake her head. Besides, for as hard of a time as she gave him, Kinsley never really minded him and was sure that he knew it. The bickering usually just served as a tool to keep his ego from imploding. “Look at you, such a caring a soul. But seriously Lukas, the only thing I’m deprived of is food and sleep, so unless your idea of a good time is hanging out on my couch eating pizza until I pass out, I might be kind of a bummer today.”

“You’re immortal but you’re not a machine, Kinsley–” she scolded gently, “At least come and get some food with me?”
“Are we so sure about that? I mean, I’m pretty sure I could be a robot and not even know it.” She pointed out, mostly jokingly. The truth of the matter was that she did feel as though her life had turned into something of a mechanical system over the years. Everything was a duty, a responsibility, and she just wanted to get through every day. “Well, far be it from me to turn down a meal. What are you in the mood for?”

“Fine, fine, I’ll save that fun for another time.” Joslyn drawled as she tapped her fingers on the top of the table. “Blood bags and wine it is,” it was the duller of the two options but Joslyn knew when not to push things. “I mean you’re never going to hear the end of anything with that one, how is this any differen’t.” Joslyn pointed out. “Come on, I know where the most aged bottle is. You’ll love it, it will take you back to another time.”
“Fair enough, maybe I’m just prolonging the inevitable then.” Her shoulders shrugged, knowing it was unavoidable that Lukas would know what they were doing eventually. It wasn’t even as big a deal as she made it, simply knowing she’d hear about it. With a tired laugh, she followed Joslyn’s lead. “What time is it taking us back to? We’ve lived through enough of them, and some were more enjoyable than others.”

That’s really more my speed.” Joslyn teased with a grin. “But I didn’t want to overwhelm you so blood bag and wine it is. Are you telling me that I can’t rub this is Lukas’s face, you know I love to dance circles around my brother chanting of my achievements.”
“Yeah, maybe we don’t push our luck as far as my tolerance level goes?” She shot her a quick look, but found herself giving a soft laugh a moment later. They weren’t the most similar two, and far be it for Kinsley to judge her, but she’d known Joslyn since the beginning. “And I know how much fun that is for you, but I’d never hear the end of it. Come on, I’m sure you already have the best wine picked out.”

“You should consider working less. Caring so much for others seems to be the root of your problem. I’d also suggest doing less of that as well. Really, it makes sleeping through the night so much easier. My final suggestion, for the time being, would be to shower first. You absolutely need that.”
“Charming, Lukas. Really. I’m just trying not to swoon over here.” Her eyes rolled, voice heavy in it’s sarcasm. Her head shook, but lips tugged in a smile regardless, because it was just the type of comment she expected from him. “What ever have I done to be graced with such wisdom from you today? Surely there must be some other girls for you to go work your magic on.”
