pre-debut
ishida setsuna was born in the small prefecture of iwate, located in the tōhoku region of honshu, japan. her family a long line of farmers, which began with her family's branch of a royal family past, splitting off to make their own way.
a home birth in a little farmstead surrounded by generations of friends and family, even though she had no siblings until recently setsuna never felt alone.
their family was straddling the lower middle class and lower class margin most of her life, and yet they were quaint and happy.
her parent's agricultural focus was fruits and rice.
growing up she already had a love for music, and more so a love for singing. she was often told she had a nice voice but it took awhile for her to really lock in on that.
she started with doing little shows, birthdays, weddings and funerals at a young age the small village she called home making her a local celebrity.
but local became a lot less local as word got out and videos surfaced of her beautiful singing voice.
she was notorious for her unique vocal tone and timbre that sounded like no other in the area.
moving on to bigger or better things in japan, setsuna started participating in talent shows and talent pageants around the country , becoming some sort of a local celebrity as her singing was something unfounded in their area. and before long, setsuna was giving small performances for small crowds at just 12-13 years old.
this led to unforeseen opportunities for the young, hometown star, and a talent competition had a japanese company begging her to join the line up of a girl group they wanted to start at their company, already having a pretty global japanese boy group under their belt.
career/debut
static48 was the name of the three member girl group who took big/little japan by storm though only gained niche attraction outside of the country.
they traveled around and played at small concerts but became a girl group the nation coveted, the only issue was, setsuna, their youngest and most popular member, was only fourteen years old.
this began a long journey of a lot of attention on someone so young. she was pushed to the front lines of the group and made to make it stay afloat.
but the fandom culture there cultivated and disdain for it, and as static48 got older, setsuna found herself less wanting to continue. even though the group was a household name, by the time setsuna was sixteen the group "concluded" as the parent company tries not to use the word disband for a temporary group, and she was kind of stuck in the downward fall of fame.
static48 filled small arenas and open the door for her to truly fall in love with performing.
upon exiting the company, a staff member suggested the korean industry to her, and that started a long road to her finding her way into her current group.
there was only one problem it was the korean industry.
unable to find auditions in japan for notable companies, setusna made the hard decision of leaving her not-so-quaint life style back on the country side and left for korea on her own.
it was hard at first, she'd hardly learned the language and if setsuna was honest she was overwhelmed with the change, even though she was hellbent on pursuing her knew dreams.
this persistence is what brought her to infinite entertainment after a short time auditioning for companies, they wanted her voice and they wanted it now.
before long she was thrown into a rigorous training regiment, nothing like the simple choreography and cute songs like she'd done in static48 they had full blown choreography that she had a tough time keeping up with.
these days setsuna would say for sure that her voice is what saved her as even to this day it takes her the longest to pick up choreography.
debut
though she'd been in the spot light before, setsuna found it a lot different than her time in static48.
the dances were harder, the schedules were harsher and at the time they were the only group at the company upon debut.
she watched as some of the faves toured making her ache to be on a bigger stage.
but all that motivation was easily tainted by the companies need to curate an image. and they had one for her: 'hime', the japanese princess' with a voice like a siren and visual's that rivaled the royals. and this was already amplified as netizens dug into the new girl group, the first at infinite ent. and found their families, her adjacency to royalty even if miniscule only amplified the attention, and the company ran with it.
soon setsuna was the poster child for the term 'japan's princess.' they began dressing her in gyaru like fashion, and the korean lessons quickly ceased to almost nothing when fans and other on lookers found it 'cute' to watch her 'try' at the language.
it bothered her, but there wasn't much more she could do.
she still picked up the dances slower than the other girls, and rather fight back, why not sing and stick to the bit just as she always had?
but this became a constant, when the cameras were on or they were in front of a crowd setsuna had to be bubbly, cute and palatable. she had to do the aegyo and suggestive dances cutely for the elder fans who seemed to flock and fawn over her.
even at nineteen she felt a little nasty doing it, and yet it's what made her more popular.
this took the shiny new feel off of being an idol, the more the gawked at her the less she felt good about it all.
and the more popular estella gets the more she feels icky about it all, especially being a caricature of her culture to add some "spice" to the group.
post debut/first tour
it being the first tour there has yet to be a stop at that she hasn't been nervous
she went viral for sounding a bit bad at their very first stop and now feels a bit wavering at her skill, it was the first time that had ever happened (news flash girl that says a lot)
she's having a bit of trouble getting into the swing of quick changes and short sets just to jetset and leave to do it all over again.
the cameras suck. cut them. dead ass. her confessionals are usually short unless they are asking her a direct question and is currently viral for not having it in most of them fans finding her funny and relatable.

pre-debut
kang su-ji spent his child hood in the coastal city seogwipo, jeju island, south korea.
he was born to a teenage single mother and raised by a village of women.
growing up he spent a lot of time attached to his mothers hip. she was a dancer before getting pregnant and even though her career ended she often exposed suji to the fine arts world.
it was during these escapades that he fell in love with it as a whole. from little music pow-wows on the beach to an entire broadway production, he'd fallen for it all.
in childhood, suji was a bit shy. he didn't yearn for the spotlight but rather the skill. he enjoyed honing in his technique and landing hard skills over putting his talent on display. but the most important thing about it is that he was indeed talented.
as he got older, money came a bit easier, no longer relying on his freshly eighteen year old mother and her waitressing job, but now being sustained herself in restaurant owning ad management, catapulting them from bordering poverty to upper middle class.
having to simply survive together made them close, almost best friends as they practically grew up together in their struggling lively hood, bonded mother and son by the arts.
as money picked up for their family, so did su-ji's opportunities. and though most idols wouldn't say it, his adjacency to wealth is what he felt catapulted his career.
he started doing ballet at a small, bamboo floored studio when he was three, and as their wealth grew he upgraded to the korea national university of the arts.
but his time at the korean prestigious school was short lived as his mother opened a new restaurant, on the other side of the ocean. her home town bistro had a new seattle store front, forcing the kang's to take the big move.
it was hard, he hardly knew the language and it was far more competitive in this field in their new home than back in jeju or the south korean mainland. eventually, to keep his hand in a few pots he found an interest in theater, both regular and musical while continuing his ballet career at the pacific northwest ballet school. there he became notorious for his technical skill and poise even if he didn't land a lot of main roles on stage.
after a couple of years of jumpstarting his mother's us flag ship, his mother made her way back to her home country, son and new fiancé in tow, the women's relationship quiet and sweet.
upon their return, his mother pushed him to do something with his ballet and stage talents etc. and with out many options with his little connections outside of his teachers, su-ji took to auditioning at various companies until he was brought on to a small company to be a background dancer for their few idols
pre-debut career
after working with the idols at his parent company, su-ji became very regarded especially for feminine and delicate choreo or partner songs for idols and even landed a gig as a dancer for a few well known idols as well as the former group that KAISO was the leader of.
when auditioning to be a back up dancer for artist at the company when he offered the job of being a trainee for infinite's upcoming boy group.
at first he was apprehensive, the training to be an idol was rigorous and while musical theater in school helped a bit of his performance, he'd never added singing to hard hitting choreography.
he'd done one or the other and mayhaps a shimmy or two in theater but not to the level the idol regiment was.
in his two years of training he always fell right behind the top slots, often hearing feedback about needing to relax and actually put himself into the music, grooming him to be seen when he wasn't exactly used to it.
he was either too much or falling short, failing to blend with the other trainees around him and it almost got him cut from the final line-up. and su-ji could only count it on luck that they chose him along side the other talented trainees.
at debut
su-ji's original visuals caught people off guard, his pre debut image that everyone was so used to seeing seemed hardened in the face reveal of the members, leading netizens to speculate that he ahd changed drastically from backing up female soloists with waking and lyrical pieces.
they cursed infinite for ruining su-ji's image. which pushed the rookie to think through what exactly he wanted his idol. image to be.
even though he'd passed the final hump that most trainees failed to see, backlash seemed to follow him. su-ji stll struggled with the group cohesiveness, over dancing or under dancing, over performing or underperforming it didn't matter he was subject to the litigation, and for awhile it made him struggle with his motivation to succeed in the field. things were much easier when you were in the background.
he still struggled with breath control, opting to cut his lines short so that he could show off his moves, which only pushed the public to questioning their groups abilities as an entirety.
this made being in the spot light hard for suji as he felt as though his faults were bringing the group down.
multiple times he thought heavily on leaving before phoenix could really even pick up steam.
career & infinite tour
as his career went forward su-ji desperately did his best trying to define himself. he wanted to be his own idol, but struggled with how to do that without mishaping the perfect circle that was suppoed to be phoenix.
he wasn't the group's number one dancer or number one singer or even rapper, he wasn't even the visual. sure they threw him in the center to be pretty and dance, but this life wasn't settling in his bones the way just dancing had.
and as if fitting the idol mold wasn't already a hard thing to do, in februrary of 2021, he lost his biological mother to an illness that she had been quietly living with, forcing him to go on a short hiatus.
the groups comebacks during this time got high praise and even more so with out suji sticking out like a sore thumb. during that time he'd found himself in a deep depression, mourning his mother's loss while being the strong boy for all the women around him.
he changed a lot in short time, deciding that life isn't promised and he shouldn't kill himself trying to live up to the standards that are ever changing in this industry he found himself in.
he came back in july in just enough time to prepare for the infinite tour with a new found confidence and expression, that netizen still didn't seem to appreciate, though true fans, though deeming him unrecognizable, found it endearing that he was trying hard just as he'd done before.
during the infinite tour he found himself sick with all the traveling, the auto immune disease that afflicted his mother catching up with him.
in his moments of giving his all, suji found himself needing to recover for long stints of time after the fact, fans noticing his sickly face and thinning form.
still, suji pushed himself, he often still takes feed back personal and spends long days and nights in the practice room, even when it made him sick.
on tour his exhaustion and sickness became a regular occurrence. he would sleep between every break and find his appetite leaving and returning. and the rash on his nose and cheeks could no longer be mistaken as blush.
a trip to the hospital in the final leg of that tour after he fainted after his stage revealed after copious testing that suji had lupus. and from then on he had much ore to worry about through out the rest of his career.
now, even with the right medication and treatments, suji was forced to push through fatigue and joint pain, low white blood cell count, all while keeping up with phoenix's choreography and schedule.
post tour
suji spent a lot of the time post tour actively recovering. there wasn't a lot of time to rejuvenate his body and with the extra rest time his symptoms began to let up.
after going to doctors in korea su-ji was put on a "strict" diet and told to keep himself active, which outside of dancing was not his forte, but after awhile he was able to manage his symptoms just like anyone else.
occasionally he still gets sick and has to miss a performance or two and is currently a little worried with the new tour schedule that he'll end up back in the hospital, (but hey at least he's getting the check na mean?)

pre-debut
she was born to high school sweethearts kangjeon changbin and maxine seo in the village of biei japan september 27th, 1998, her father at the time began as an french professor at university of tokyo and her mother was working as a bank teller.
her mother died in a robbery gone wrong right around the time she started working again after yumi's birth, and sunan, devastated by his wife’s passing decided after a long time of court proceedings, it was time to move forward raising his daughter, and far away from the village their trauma had begun in.
her father had been loving and doting her whole life, he encouraged her to do everything she wanted ( within reason ), taught her to be tough as nails and not afraid to get down and dirty while still teaching her empathy and compassion.
teaming up with his love for the outdoors he packed one and a half year old yumi up and began his journey traveling the world and teaching a myriad of languages. his goal was to see every country at least once (even if it was the airport or through on the bus or some sort of transportation) before he died, a goal he’d originally set with her mother that they’d begin when yumi started uni.
they started furthest west, the us, in erie and blouder, coloardo. he got a short term job teaching korean at university of colorado boulder. this is where yumi began the first portions of her life, she started talking learning english, korean and japanese simultaneously.
then it was on to paraiso and daisuke began teaching english at santa maria la antigua catholic school.
next was são caetano do sul , brazil where he taught english and spanish at university of sao paulo
it was here in sao paulo where yumi took quite the tumble down the side of a hill while hiking with her father. she’d gotten up with what they thought were only wounded pride and cuts and bruises even though she knocked into a few rocks on the way down. but after awhile the ringing in her ears never stopped and daisuke was concerned at his daughter’s complaints of the dimming of sound in her left ear. after a trip to the hospital it was notated that her woozy stance, v*mitting and headaches weren’t just from being shaken up from the fall but the result of a nasty concussion.
ct scans revealed that the fall resulted in damage to her inner ear which led to/would lead to sensorineural hearing loss. and sure enough she lost about 80% of her hearing in that ear after suffering from a wide range of hearing related issues (i.e. soft sounds suddenly becoming to quiet or loud/normally moderate sounds too loud)
after brazil he made his way to le cannet, france where he taught korean at skema. it was here she was fitted for her first hearing aid.
he went on to ship them across the pond to helsingor, denmark and taught english at the university of coppenhagen, then to nuremberg, germany where he taught spanish at university of munik. he took a small break for a few months and they settled in mariehamn, aland islands, finnland for some daddy/daughter time and then off they were off to ipoh, malaysia for a stint at universati malaya.
it was in malaysia where yumi actually fell in love with kpop as a whole. it was a friend of hers that was a big fan of a second gen group that dragged her to a concert. she, like many fans, fell for the atmosphere and the fast paced life style that the career asks for. off and on she’d google around for auditions just to humor herself, but for awhile she didn’t see herself as a non-korean, and hardly ‘feminine’ at best being in a group at all. but, that same friend dragged her to an audition to which she was picked up at vibe productions (2011).
it was at vibe that she got most of her training, (see canon’s for how it affected her as an idol), even after years of practicing dances at home to counter the minor issue with her balance she still fell behind the other trainees in the dance department. vibe often told her she made up for it with her visuals and her voice but, even then as they pumped out girl group after girl group and soloist after soloist they still hadn’t picked yumi, and she trained for 2.5 years with them only to not debut she was frustrated but determined to be an idol even with her disability as her dad taught her if she wanted something the only option was to go all the way.
but following too many missed promises to debut AND being pulled from a line up with a close trainee friend, yumi terminated her contract with vibe, set on joining her father back on his journey around the world. it was during this time was stopped by a new star entertainment scout while out at coffee with some friends in japan.
yumi assumed that she’d spend time in the basement all over again at new star, but within a month or so was granted a spot in the debut line up for flora, while apprehensive at first given the groups concept idea, she decided (after a…heart to heart with their now leader) to stick through it even with the short 8-month training period with the other two members.
at debut
she was asked to switch her name to something with a little more ‘star power’ thus the pseudonym ‘seo yumi’ and the mononym ‘yumi’ was born. it was as if kangjeon yumi, a boyish scruff muffin from that little japanese village was no more, and the ‘cute maknae of flora’ seo yumi was now in her place.
she suffered a good bit of damage from the greater public at debut. a double edged sword some felt she was much too young and cute for a group of older girls, others thought she hardly fit the bill as an idol. she lacked media training and seemed to have a hard time keeping up with the girls. an often gripe about her is that she raps because she can hardly sing and dance, and they believed another new star trainee was booted for her to take their spot simply because she was prettier.
backlash with the false rumor only came down with a harder judgment when the official positions came out and yumi, the only foreign member, held the visual spot.
during career
as the public got to know her she was given the “nation’s girlfriend” title in 2017 as they had grown to love her boyish charms ( think ryujin of itzy ) , attached themselves to her whimsical hippie vibe and played the cute maknae role well. while she won them over with that, they still had an issue with her having the visual position, and that is often a sense of contention within the think pieces on their group.
it wasn’t until flora that yumi began to come into her femininity. like a sibling watching her sisters grow up, yumi’s aesthetic seemed to first change into a blend of her “boyish” style and the style of her older members, before she fell into a beat of her own. this change in her is often sighted amongst fans.
silver’s absence in 2018 was very hard on her, but in a weird way pushed her to work harder, there was a stark difference in how she performed and carried herself during the fancy era, versus before ( think shuhua in nxde ). fans think it’s her fave bc of it, but in reality she hates it (think nayeon and i’m gonna be a star). after feeling that absence and loss during the era before, and being forced to do a concept to which they had to pretend to be a big happy family while promoting while a member was missing, she felt completely empty because of it. since then she hasn’t truly recovered but the power and improvement she put into her performances to make up for how empty she felt, showed through during performances and onward.
known for her incline in skill but decline in stage presence post-queendom era. she often is ridiculed for performing with a straight face unless she’s essentially feeling the performance or having a really good day. there are a lot of think pieces online about what happened to her during that time.
there was an ‘incident’ following silvers return where yumi suffered her first ever break down. this resulted in her crudely chopping her hair off in her dorm room sparking a new, though unhealthy, coping mechanism. the company was not happy but she went on to promote in a nice short cut or extensions.
infinite tour
during the infinite tour not much changed, at least that’s what yumi thought.
she released two ‘solo’ projects, one a collab with bravehearts jinnie and the other her own solo song.
she chopped all her hair off again on vacation in hawaii with her members, and has since dyed it a dark color for the first time since fancy era. now it’s about shoulder length and cut in a wolf cut shag with choppy layers.

overall she feels as though returning to korea has become a cleansing experience for her and is trying to move forward differently in this next chapter of her career and life.

overall yumi is a hippie with an edgy flair to her. she’s all peace and love, do what you want, be who you want to be, but sometimes chaos is a little more fun. her intelligence is a pro and a con she uses it to rationalize life so she has no need for emotion. everything has a reason, a deeper meaning behind it so no need to feel it just …be. it is her strength yet it’s crippling and with the addition of her inability to make connections, she uses it instead of tapping into her emotions. her hair is her mood ring, and until she can completely become her own it’ll constantly change, just like everything else…and she thinks she likes it that way.

she was born april 11th, 1997 to hwang song-dok and choi nanseolheon in seoul, south korea
while her parents were very successful (her mother a surgeon and her father a high merit professor/author and a big active contributor to academia). she comes from chaebol old money as well that dates back to her family's original settlement in the centralized and urban area of seoul.
she’s the oldest of four, and very much treated like so. her parents put a lot of emphasis on her role as the eldest daughter. she learned a lot of her ‘homemaking skills’ early.
she and her parents have a tumultuous relationship, they can be a bit over bearing even now on wanting her to be successful. once ‘the littles’ were born, deiji was casted off, left to meet high expectations. her mother seemed to be in competition with her girls while doting on the youngest and only boy. leaving daisy to make sure they had their basic needs. at times even his, her parents so caught up with spoiling that actual parenting took a back seat.
this pushed her need for successful rebellion. she became her own woman and going by her own rules while her parents struggled to reign her in. sneaking out a lot and engaging in things much too high above her age level.
she grew up fast taking care of them and herself, and in turn lost a lot of having a childhood making sure her siblings had theirs.
from a young age she was forced to be a role model and the pinnacle of perfection, even when she was slightly mediocre in a lot of things. this led to strenuous schedules and constant practice, deiji pushing for a perfection in things she couldn’t exactly reach.
she was enrolled in ballet, voice lessons as well as some instrumental lessons (guitar, piano, and violin) around the age of 5 or 6 or so. there were often etiquette lessons as well
her time in ballet led to a lot of issues with her body image, even worse when she was continuing the practice abroad. she developed body dysmorphia and bulimia early on in her ballet career, though over her years as an idol she’s been working on a better weight image and relationship with food. while she found so many issues wrong with her coming from ballet, she did adore it and found it as an escape from the constant competition her mom had her placed under
when she entered her last few years of middle school she was sent to study at brighton college in brighton, england. at brighton she began a lot of healthy and unhealthy habits. she found a love of theater and and singing, and even gaming (now becoming her favorite past times), but also other things like taking drugs to cram for school, and smoking cigarettes (a habit she’s working on quitting)
she graduated brighton at age seventeen, her parents instantly pushed for her to do something to ‘make them proud’ bc they were tired of her sitting on her ass after graduating and college wasn’t an option, she did well in academia but had no desire to continue it.
in her need to become better than ‘them’ (her parents) and prove them wrong she went for the thing that would sate her needs to be desired and yearned for, while keeping her in a fast pace life style of scheduling that she’d grown used to growing up. coming across a national audition video for vibe productions on youtube, deiji submitted a video of her doing ballet, a performance from her dance days, and a small clip of her singing. she ultimately was asked to come audition for the company and landed a spot as a trainee.
her trainee days she fell into the natural routine of taking over being ‘the top spot’ she was ‘good’ at everything but all the other girls excelled in those categories. and yet they seemed cower beneath her, leaving daisy to take on the ‘regina george’ persona early on. she pushed to be SEEN by the company
a big issue with deiji during her trainee days is that she was ‘good’ at everything, but not outwardly phenomenal, something she dealt with growing up.
at debut
debuted at 19 (trained for a little less than a year and has the shortest trainee period out of the group which adds to fans distastes to her as leader and center as they don’t feel like she’s worked as long or as hard as the other girls, her pretty face being the reason she made her positions in the group.)
she’s a lead vocalist and lead rapper, visual and center in the group, official place holders would be jennie, onda/aisha and karina roles, mostly center just for visual effect
while she won them over with her striking visuals, often deiji was painted as the ‘mean girl’ before she ever really opened her mouth. netizens often commented on her rbf or the way she walked or talked, and in most moments she was the target of ridicule, fake bullying scandals and the works
despite that, she gained a quick crown for being a good leader over all, and quickly after was well known for her brother also joining the industry following her own debut

she often did and still does get ridiculed for the family she came from. often said that she’s a shit idol and only debuted bc she was pretty and rich
one thing about deiji is that she is a PERFORMER, this comes from her theater background and is essentially why she ended up in her spot in braveheart as her ability to put on a show with more hip hoppy moves (due to bravehearts concept and ballet/contemporary/lyrical being her only dance experience) overshadowed her lack of skills.
her expressions and sensualness when performing is what she’s known for today as an idol. as well as being extremely poised and ‘naturally idol’ trained. this meaning her a ability to connect with fans, cameras, staffs etc. she’s also notated for her perfect posture and the way she holds herself in schedules.
but the constant spotlight that came with more negatives than positives daisy found herself in the secret party scene. there have been multiple instances where blurry photos of her in some dim seoul night club has surfaced and her slight addiction to c*caine began to emerge.
even still daisy put up a brave face, just as before with her family, even if she had to squeeze bl*od from her palms in order to make it through.
over time she’s grown to be very vocal about any mistreatment and things that her group gets, will address a hate comment and will not let hosts/mcs ask inappropriate questions, speak up about inappropriate styling for younger members etc etc.
during her career as her friendship with michelle became public she had been dubbed the dragon princess to her ice queen, and boy does she live up to that title
infinite tour
key moments of the infinite tour could include a big scandal that was narrowly avoided, deiji was photographed dancing proactively with another woman at a club on tour, and while the photos didn’t get much of a chance to circulate, she ended up in the hotseat with company and truthfully still slightly is.
this lead to her having doubts about herself and the group, feeling as if her insidious need to not feel anything and run away from her problems through booze, sex and drugs was ruining the group’s reputation.
there were many attempts to get sober on tour, but most if not all fell through. she’s still working on it.
during the tour she debuted in her first official subunit v!olet with a groupmate and a tidal member, the group has a rebellious, creepy, rock sound and allows her to explore her other talents when it comes to her ability to play instruments.
she also released two solo eps both on her birthday each year of the tour xoxo and lowlife princess

overall deiji is a very cher horowitz type of girl. call it a coping mechanism or her true evil she doesnt care as long as she wins the game. she struggles a lot internally but it takes a special type of person to see that underneath her mask. its when the mask slips that she turns to other means of gratification but she is trying hard to move forward with out the opinions of others weighing so heavily on how she lives her life. in truth she loves being an idol but is on a long bus to self destruction. picture her as your hedonistic socialite. the smile is always gleaming but there’s a sinister glint in her eye, if you don’t hold a special place in her heart. she’s known to have a knack for treating others like they’re beneath her even if she doesn’t intend to which pays homage to how deeply ingrained her socialite life is into her.
