“At times like this, I’ve never been so happy to be gay in my goddamn life  – – I do have a wand on me but I do have a few words that you’re gonna hear first,” Mary squared her shoulders, making sure to stare daggers into Kiran’s eyes. “I don’t have a f u c k i n g clue what is going on, but you and Lance need to stop treating Reggie like shit. Yeah, BOTH of you have been equally shitty to her and mate, it’s downright u g l y. I don’t know whatever beef if going on between you and Lance is making you both be a ton of shitty dicks towards Reg, but it stops now. Yeah?? ”

“Mary, mate...” A heavy drop of the shoulders, Kiran’s head dropped into his palm as he rubbed his forehead wearily. “Listen, yeah, you know I rate you bares and all, and I am proper grateful my day one gal’s got a... mate? Like you, but like you said, you don’t know what’s going on, init? So, can I just say as a mate, yeah, please just stay out of it, man.” Mary’s confrontation came entirely as a surprise, and Kiran thought it to be rather unwarranted. He wasn’t quite sure what he and Lance had done to deserve such an accusation, but he wasn’t going to challenge it for the sake of his own frustration, uncharacteristically. It wasn’t worth the demise of another friendship. “In an ideal world, yeah, manz would not be a wasteman, but it ain’t an ideal world, Mazza, and manz acts like a wasteman sometimes.” He threw his hands up in the air before she could correct him. “More than sometimes. So, brothers fight, init. It ain’t the first fight we’ve ever had, and it ain’t the last. And, to be honest, mate, this is such a minor ting,” Kiran lied. He couldn’t remember the last time he and Lance had tension that wasn’t solved in the space of ten minutes with a hug or a punch. “Reggie’s got every right to be upset, cos she’s our sister, you get me. But, if everyone’s mates and their mates and their fucking grandmas start getting involved then this minor ting will get so clapped and longed out, fam. I get where you’re coming from, Mazza, but just... leave it to us to fix, yeah?”

“You know what’s proper fucked?” The greeting was likely not one that Kiran was wanting, but Reggie was seething. For the first time in a long time, her razor-sharp tongue was flying venomously at the boys she saw to be her brothers. “Whatever this stupid shit is that’s going on between you and Lance. I heard that even slaps have been thrown now? What. The. Shit, Kiran? Both you and Lance need to get woke. No one, especially the Slytherin gal pals for Salazar’s sake, is worth you and Lance having this kind of beef. Particularly during a time where, hello, people have been dying. Can’t you, I don’t know, PRIORITIZE for once in your lives? I ought to drag both of you out by your ears and hang you to dry. Do you know how much restraint it’s taking me not to just jinx the two of you right now? Because, unlike some of you juveniles, I have self-control. Something none of you clearly have the capacity to exert.”

Kiran jumped back at the raw fervour he was met with. By this point, Kiran’s brain -- which wasn’t all that competent to begin with -- felt like it was about to explode. He was sick and tired of hearing about it, talking about it, and arguing about it. “Fam... What do you want me to do?” Indolently, he shrugged, expelling a defeated and bitter chuckle. “Our day one don’t rate me no more, init. Too much of a wasteman for him now or something, I don’t fucking know. Man avoids me like I’m a fucking pagan sideman, what am I supposed to do?! Air every day, Reg. He don’t run with me like we used to. Got all the love for him, but I ain’t gonna beg him to, am I?”

“Let me tell you what’s really ‘ peak ’, Khan,” She spat venomously, “You showing up here, having a ball with a waste of space like Atlas Krum and acting like you don’t have a  care in the world—-and you really don’t, do you? You don’t even care—-about ANYTHING but yourself. If you had even a bit of decency you wouldn’t even be here, but no—-” And now he was talking back to her? “I could fill a  book with all the things I have to say to you, but quite frankly the planet doesn’t deserve to suffer for all the trees it’d kill, but since you offered—” A hard shove and Kiran was back in the pool, Nadia leaning down to speak to him, “The ONLY reason you’re not in the Hospital Wing right now is because Lance is astonishingly still fond of you, but if you  e v e r  mess with Amma again, I’ll take a page out of my grandmother’s book and you’ll be wishing it was nothing more than a slap across the face. Are we clear?”

At the insult wielded at Atlas, naturally Kiran opened his mouth to defend his mate. However, Nadia allowed him no room for interruption, and the words that followed made him lock his jaw in place, dropping his head briefly as he diverted his gaze to the side. Nadia was wrong. Sure, Kiran was as selfish and hedonistic as they come, but he loved Amma more than he could love anything in the world, including himself. He shook his head lightly as a small indication of that. “Yeah, crystal,” he said, void of any sarcasm or lilt that was to be expected. “I’ll leave then, ite? I’ll leave.” He put his hands up as a surrender as he began to walk away.

“Do you want me to talk with your dad?” She asked, tone lighter than it should have been. Truthfully, Benji had wanted to put an ed to the situation before it got to this point. IT would have been easier if it was her that had recieved the backlash but surprisingly it was Kiran. “Amma will make it. I know she’s hurt and I know you are but it’s for her own good, right? We can get through it– You can get through it. If it’s too much let’s just leave?”

“Do you think that’ll help?” Kiran looked up, looking desperate yet defeated at the same time. Every day he was beyond grateful he had someone like Benji. Of all the things he took for granted in his life, she was not one of them. “Yeah, but... fam, I just miss her. You know, I was properly... you know, in deep. Like, the proper real shit, you get me? None of this should be happening, man.” Sighing, he dropped his head and held it between his legs. “We’re gonna find a way round this, init?” Kiran fought the urge to just leave until everything settled down every day. However, he deemed it wouldn’t have been fair, until tonight. Atlas Krum, putting up a front, losing friends, but most of all seeing Amma every day and not even being able to talk to her was slowing him down. “Can we? Let’s go on holiday. You can pick, alright, and let’s just get out of here. Manz trying his best to find a solution, but I’m not gonna fucking get anywhere here, you get me?”

“This has—-” Nadia grimaced, “This drink tastes like it has soap in it; why am I not surprised….”

Benji had seen more than she’d like to of Nadia’s altercation with Kiran and she couldn’t stop herself from charging over to make it – a fair fight. With out a word, she drew her hand back and with a loud pop it landed against the other girl’s cheek. “If you’re going to go around hitting people, don’t be a coward and hit people that can’t hit back.”

                Lance had Nadia behind him ( a protective arm around her waist and the wand she’d produced snatched away ) before either of the two could make another move. He could barely contain the  A N G E R  in his eyes and clenched fists, despite his and Nadia’s relationship still being publicly unknown. “ What the FUCK are you playing at, Benji, acting like some next level wasteman, init?! ”

Kiran had made his way over with the intention of merely pulling Benji away and dissolving the situation. However, after hearing Lance talk as he swiftly approached, he couldn’t help but stand between Lance and Benji, a hand raised up to Lance’s chest, palm faced downwards. “C’mon, bruv, watch the tone,” he firmly said. A wave of emotions consumed him as he looked at Lance in the eyes. “Leave it, yeah?” He almost pleaded with a firm nod. “We’re leaving.” Looking back to face Benji, he placed a hand on her back, lightly pushing her to start walking away.

Immersed in her own world, messing around with a few of the pool toys that had been collected for the party to keep herself entertained. However, the feeling of being watched was overwhelming. “Do you have a problem or something?” She commented, still keeping her attention focused ont he toy instead of the culprit.

“Yeah, I can’t fucking take this anymore, Beni,” Kiran muttered under his breath, restless from his sessions with Atlas, and beyond frustrated from his conversation with Nadia. “Everyone’s chatting bare shit, manz getting bare vexed, init yeah, and this close to blowing it.” Above it all, however, the worst part was how sad Amma looked all the time. “This is fucking hard.”

             “ MATE, please, ” Atlas complained, in the ‘  c o m e   o n  ’ sort of way after spitting his drink in laughter due to watching the boy’s supermodel act. “ If you’re gonna’ be that bait, grease yourself up first, set up some cameras for dem insta shots, init, Adonis?? ” His eyes flickered up to the cut, and Atlas laughed again. “ You’ll be right, lad, leave the wand. This’ll put some pep in your step, ” he assured, and discreetly slipped a small bag of white powder into Kiran’s palm.

“You dunnoe about dem insta shots, fam. You already know the gyaldem’s saving dat sixty second snapchat story of me.” For someone always so jubilant and animated, there was something that seemed to weigh down his features, despite his efforts to cover it by forcing his infamous boyish smirk. “Woi, Krum came through,” he accepted the bag, leaving it in the dry pocket of his shorts. “Hold up,” Kiran looked over his shoulder to look for Lance, only to find him looking into Nadia’s eyes. Still, Kiran wanted to find his best mate to join them on their top notch banter. “Fuckin’ L.Dot with his bird, you know. Gotta let a boi do what a boi’s gotta do,” He turned back to Atlas, a little jealously seeping through the undertones. He decided then it was best to distract himself before he approached Amma. “Let’s fuckin’ go, bruv.”

Nadia’s eyes narrowed as she observed the scene; just who did Kiran Khan think he was? Did he think he could CHEAT on her best friend and then come to a party and have FUN? No way. She shoved the person Kiran had been speaking to out of the way, a mocking “Here, Kir, let me help,” uttered before she threw her drink in his face—-hopefully it burned. To follow up, a resounding SLAP echoed through the room as her hand connected with his face, “You have a  l o t  of nerve, showing up here and acting like you aren’t the scummiest—-most vile—-asshole—”

Broad shoulders tensed at the reluctant recognition of a rather hostile presence within his peripherals, but Kiran tried his best to focus on whatever the 6th year Hufflepuff -- or, was it Ravenclaw? -- girl was saying. Within a blink of a eye, quite literally, the girl was pushed to the side, and before Kiran could protest or offer a hand, he was left with a stinging sensation spreading across his cheek. Wincing, he rubbed his cheek lightly, sighing heavily. “Yep! That’s me...” He spoke with faux enthusiasm, nodding slowly in defeat, absent of any one of the dozen ridiculous nicknames he’d coined for her, and with his tongue pressed against his cheek. Another sigh. “Listen, I’ll catch you later, yeah?” He spoke to the other girl, forcing a small smile of reassurance. “Bit peak, init,” he looked at Nadia, referencing the shove. He could silently take shit from everyone else, despite his innocence for the first time, but when it came to Nadia Zabini, Kiran couldn’t keep his mouth shut. “Anything else to say whilst you’re at it? Even it out? More disinfectant?”

Emersing from the water like the Greek God he thought he was, Kiran flipped back his black hair, and strutted out of the bath as he ran a hand over his torso, feeling his own chiseled abs. He had to remind himself not everything was bad. “Woiiiii, look who it is,” he greeted the person nearest to him, anything for a distraction. “You got a wand on you? Manz proper fucked it,” He said, pressing the ball of his palm against the deep cut above his eyebrow; the downsides of pissing around with Atlas Krum.

It won’t be accurate, bruv.” Kiran shrugged in jest, laughing along with his friend. “Nah, mate, say the thing. You said fa--” One explosion, and the contents had bubbled over. Kiran jumped back, covering his face in case anything happened. Loud, boyish laughter ripped through the air as Kiran gathered his things before letting out a small sigh. “Allow it, bruv. Let’s just cut.”

          &&.   “I mean, it’s not, like, MY fault she took it literally, Kir?” Even if Amma did, in fact, want them to shove their heads in the lake. She couldn’t help that she got what she wanted so often, either. At his reasoning and request, however, her arched brows and pointed glare softened, voice lowered. “Oh, sweetie, I’m not not-sad. I’m just more, like, majorly angry, is all. You’d think after the second time ‘round people would stop — trying — to — kill — us,” Amma poked his chest at every pause in her words; an outwardly affectionate gesture, despite  s e e t h i n g  inwardly. Admittedly, though, he was right: she also didn’t exactly care for the memorial. So she blew a sigh, “fine. I’ll even shed a tear. But it’s going to cost you extra,” the girl warned, and delivered a brief kiss.

“Yeah, true. It’s probably your accent, init.” With the first poke, which felt more like a jab, Kiran puffed his chest and tensed his muscles, but every single one after that he flinched with every jab to his chest, and rubbed it soothingly after she was done. “Your nails are bare sharp today, babe. Friendly reminder that I’m not one of those wastemen, yeah?” He smiled, not wanting to dwell on the gloomy subject much more. “Extra?” He repeated curiously, a corner of his lip curling up at her suggestion. Kiran Khan was going to get it wild tonight. “Like I said, anything you want, boo.”

“Babe, I--” Not even the knuckles pressed against his lips managed to suppress the laughter that inevitably escaped him. “Alright, babe, you know I find you ridiculously fit when you’re mean, but can we agree not to tell people to do that? Last time a girl actually did put her head in the lake, and apparently a Grindylow nearly drowned her, so that’s pretty deep, you get me.” He pulled her in closer, wanting a quick kiss since, as he’d said, Amma Axler was ridiculously fit when she was mean. “Memorial time!” He echoed her excitement, but immediately snapped out of it. “Wait, nah, memorials aren’t like pardys, babe. It’s not something to be gassed about, you know? Bare people are gonna be sad, loads of our mates will be, too. So, listen, how about... I’ll do anything you want me to do, tonight, if you just... act a little sad at this ting for me, yeah?”
