Hey just a heads up I am going to be deleting all of my DOL stuff soon

Too many people are coming to this blog because of TFC stuff rn and I don’t want to give DOL any more exposure than I already have

I am still in the process of overhauling everything to turn Kiran and her surroundings into a proper storyline and make characters actually my OCs rather than something I took from DOL so it will be a while before I post about Kiran and other stuff again but I definitely don’t want to abandon it

Just don’t want to give this game any more than I already have

How are things between Ana and the Doctor, Ticket Tacker and especially Jester? I imagine Jester would have IMMENSE beef with her, both cause he can see through her fake innocent act and how she treats both Pierrot and Harley.

Doctor - He is SO immensely curious and enamored by her. She doesn't read as danger to him because frankly I don't think he can look at someone of her size and stature and think of them as potential harm with his build Imao. She has him interested in her because of her medical knowledge and unique approach to problem solving just the way her brain works makes him itch to learn more about her. But I think that Doctor's interest in her is less about her sweet and beautiful persona and more about her stuffing (har-har). She gets him SO excited whenever she teaches him something new or whenever they get into friendly arguments over their techniques or just generally when he gets to see her talk with others and see just how effectively she chooses her words. He is just dying inside to learn more about this little creature but knows better to not overstep when Pierrot and Harley are this interested already.

Ticket Taker - obviously naturally distrustful of Ana but with specific undertone of slight note of fear behind the facade of casual dismissal. I like to imagine that he goes out of his way to interact with her directly as little as possible because the one time he did have an interaction with her head on she genuinely made him smile to himself and he was PETRIFIED to feel so amused by a human. He had that silent moment of realization of "oh so this is how it starts" and then proceeded to purposely avoid her at all costs cause he is self-aware enough to not assume himself to be above her charm now and frankly that makes him the most rational of the whole crew LMAO

Fun fact! Ticket Taker never even gave Ana the pink ticket because he immediately noticed that out of all the people in town to go missing she would bring TOO MUCH attention to the circus and bring way too much of a trouble to deal with. He was SO MAD AND DONE when she showed up at the circus with the red ticket afterwards 😭

Jester — you are right on the money about him being able to see right through her act of innocence and care. He dislikes her HEAVILY and remains incredibly suspicious of her the entire time. I don’t imagine him being able to assume just how rotten she is on the inside but he doesn’t need to know the size of the tumor to know there is cancer around. I don’t imagine him interacting with her head on too much but I like to think that unlike TT he sees himself as above her charms and manipulations (as a fellow manipulator and a guy with a big chip on his shoulder with humans) which is still a potential weakness for her to exploit so there are some possibilities there as well lmao

Thinking about Pierrot making Ana genuinely angry

And her anger has that specific bellow freezing temperature presence to it

Type of cold glare that could give you frost bite

The tone of voice that sends shivers down your spine ESPECIALLY in contrast to her usual soft mannerisms

Pierrot feeling so small and pathetic wanting to shrink of himself despite being that big scary monster cowering in front of a little lady that haven’t done anything yet but looked and talked to him coldly

And it’s not only because of the fact that it’s his beloved who he disappointed/upset enough to get such reaction

But it’s familiarity of a feeling of that genuine hatred he remembers usually being a target of from humans

Ana isn’t supposed to be like all the other humans that hate him just for existing so this is wrong and he must’ve done something so wrong to deserve such treatment from her obviously she wouldn’t be like this otherwise he made her this way and he has to be the one to fix it and appease her so hopefully she goes back to her sweet caring and loving normal self he just needs to earn it-

Just the way she can make him regress back to the helpless creature in the cage and not even need a whip to do it but a firm cold shoulder

Btw Ana specifically took off Harlequin’s pin but left Pierrot’s on her shirt to make him jealous and lead to this situation

As you can see it worked out marvelously cause he is so predictable to her

can I use your design of Pierrot and Harlequin for a short animation project? or at least take some inspiration? I'm struggling to animate them frame by frame with the amount of details they have.

Oh, I am so flattered! As long as I am credited go right ahead (not for characters but for specific character designs, they still belong to Neko first and foremost lmao)

Do you have any songs that remind you of Ana or perhaps inspired certain aspects of her? Today the radio played "Easy Lover" by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins from the album Chinese wall (funny coincidence knowing her heritage now).

As it played, Ana manifested in my mind immediately!!! From what I have gathered on her, the song seems fitting.

I have several songs that I used as my general inspiration for Ana and the direction I want to take her character to!

As cheesy as it is yeah espresso was one of the first songs I thought of when I was thinking about someone who lures someone into falling in love with them just for the fun of it AND IT WORKS SO WELL TOO SINCE SHE WORKS AT THE COFFEE SHOP (and that line about “too bad your ex don’t do it for ya” with Ana in reference to Columbina? Oh too fitting)

I have several songs from Caravan of Thieves on Ana’s playlist and they work for her, Harlequin and their dynamic so well I often like to imagine them singing their songs as a duet AND THIS ONE ESPECIALLY FITS THEM SO WELL UGHH THE KNOWLEDGE OF MASKS BEING PRESENT AND THEM BEING AWARE OF THEM!!

This one came out recently on tiktok and when I heard the full thing on drop OH IT WAS SO IMMEDIATELY ANA! Asking for forgiveness while claiming to be a good girl despite the crimes she was forced to commit? So beautifully fitting for Ana also that line of “you drink the poison gotta pay the price?” ANAAAAA

Funny enough name Ana was given to her because of this Mother Mother song! It was originally for my BTD version of Ana because of how much it conveys that feeling of being on the edge of sanity from paranoia/religious psychosis/intrusive thoughts/etc. If I could still try to apply that song to TFC Ana I would think of it as like Ana referring to her own self, specifically the Ana that she tries to play for everyone and how much she treasures yet resents that version of herself and wants to get rid of it as that “angel I couldn’t kill”

Now this one is less of a song as much as it is soundtrack/movie association

When I drew version of Ana for TFC all of my friends kept calling her so pretty and cute which ironically enough wasn’t the intention! In BTD Ana was a intentionally a pretty unremarkable and flying under the radar shut in and her design reflected as much while in BTD I guess because of the quality of the style she just turned out really pretty looking. I decided to lean into that direction of her character thinking specifically about making a character that doesn’t try to pretend to be normal by being average and unremarkable but instead uses her pretty privilege and lets others put her on a pedestal. And I immediately thought about the movie Malena where the main character basically suffers from her beauty and the way everyone perceives her because of that.

I won’t go into detail but this movie definitely affected the direction in which I brought her character (amongst some other inspirations). Ana is better treated by townsfolk because she knows how to manipulate public opinions in favorable way. But I like that it gives her character a reason to be this uninterested in people around her because her beauty and perfect persona isolated her from others. And honestly? With how men and women would talk about her? She would rather keep it that way.

i love listening to the soundtrack of that movie and imagining Ana passing by the street on her way to work/uni with everyone looking at her to steal glances, whispering something amongst each other, trying to grab her attention etc

With following far behind Pierrot being infuriated by the way people would ogle her (as if he is somehow any better)

Or Harlequin being intrigued by the commotion she causes by just passing by, curious to see how he can piss off everyone by choosing to harass her in public

And I have other songs on the playlist but they are specifically more Ana/Harlequin, Ana/Pierrot focused so I am not listing them here

i only know a little about the freak circus, but you've got me invested with your talk about the characters, especially ana! you've managed to make another very compelling character with her, take a bow.

with that said, random question for ana: does she have any interest/appreciation or vintage medical anatomy/gore art? like the ones with bodies cut open exposing organs and such, idk if there's a proper name for it rip. i randomly pictured her collecting them as a secret hobby, or maybe she would avoid getting them bc it breaks her character, and wouldn't fit if her apartment is decorated to match her normalsona.

actually that leads me to a better question: how does she approach decorating her space? is any of her 'true self' reflected in it, does she even feel like it even belongs to her as a space she can escape from the world, or is it like, idk a 'backstage' area where she rests, and prepares herself to keep playing her role?

I am so happy to hear that you like Ana that much!! She is very fun for me to think about especially with comparing how she changed from how I originally made her for settings of BTD and then adjusted to TFC, she genuinely feels like a whole different character despite having the same base frame lmao. Talking about how settings and intention of the story can change a character!

WHAT A FUN QUESTION and I love how you called it her normalsona lmao. But yeah she would definitely like to collect vintage anatomy atlases and other stuff like that and it wouldn’t even interfere much with her innocent front since she is a med student so it’s only natural for her to study that stuff! Probably got a lot of that stuff from her university whenever they would be getting rid of old inventory/posters. I like to think that she also finds value in older anatomical studies specifically with comparing them to recent data and discoveries to specifically pin point where the previous line of thinking failed and how. (She may not have the purest of hearts, but she genuinely would be an amazing doctor simply because of her dedication to ‘craft’ and refusal to half ass anything)

as for her bedroom it genuinely would be something like that:

Pretty plain and clean without much accessories or clutter

Not because her bedroom is a continuation of her mask as much as it is an actual reflection of herself in a way that its very baren and basic

Ana doesn’t have hobbies or things she is particularly passionate about like music or arts and her bedroom reflects that

I also like to think that she likes to keep her room clean and very organized specifically because of her desire to have control over space ever since she moved out from her mother who had liking for more ornate/decorative/bougie/etc sense of decoration so Ana likes having her space devoid of visual clutter (a friend described her room to look more like an IKEA display rather than actual bedroom)

probably got a couple of plants specifically because the thought of having something entirely dependent on her care soothed a particular part of her brain and since they grow nice and healthy people assume she is a good person with a green thumb

I think she is insane enough to just mentally have a note of where everything in her room is meant to be so every time she leaves home it will look the same every time and that’s how she clocks whenever Pierrot or Harlequin were in her room while she is at work/uni

Now wether or not she starts to leave/put up/do/etc little things in her bedroom for them to see as continuation of her act once she learns she is being watched is entirely different matter-

I love the idea of Harlequin being CONVINCED the entire time that he is the one who is doing the charming between them while unknowingly wrapping himself around her little finger and that’s the worst position one can find themselves in

I imagine that being around Ana makes them attract even more attention because of Ana’s reputation and natural irresistible allure making her the focus wherever she goes so seeing those monsters hang around her causes strong and negative reactions

fun fact Ana is Chinese and I tried to hint at it in her outfit by making it look kinda close to silhouettes you would see in hanfu but give it a modern/western spin (basically modern cheongasm fashion)

Ana is a second generation immigrant so she is fairly enough with her roots, like definitely can speak/write mandarin or knows some cultural traditions etc

But I don’t think she particularly cares about her heritage in a sense that she is by nature lacks sense of community and belonging so concept of being proud of her culture seems foreign to her

She is however a creature of habit so she would still continue wearing particular clothes or cook Chinese food for herself whenever she is craving so thats that

I like to think that Pierrot one time heard a song in Mandarin from her playlist and then proceeded to listen the fuck out of it until he basically memorized the lyrics lmao

or likes to hear her speak the language since he is curious and wants to learn more about Ana and loves the fact that it gives him a sense of exclusivity since she rarely speaks it in her day to day life in that town

Harlequin likes to raid her fridge whenever she cooks something extra spicy and only later realized that she would deliberately cook more food specifically FOR HIM to steal later and felt horrible about it cause UGH DONT SHOW THAT YOU KNOW HIM OR CARE FOR HIM! (She knows him because he is extremely easy to read for her but genuinely doesn’t care for him and just wants to make him fall for her and fall hard)

I personally don’t see the appeal mainly because of age difference lmao Ana is like 23-24, she wouldn’t be interested in dating 18 year old high schooler. She is devoid of moral values but younger people are just even more immature and uninteresting to her than adults are

Kiran however would definitely find Ana very attractive and may even try to shoot her shot only to be turned down pretty immediately lmao
