Dear Rowan, This is pretty much all there is to it. We love you. Xo
Happy Easter from the hammock! #masterrowan
7 days. I had a midwife appointment in town, so went in a little early and wrote thank you cards out by Newcastle beach to pass the time beforehand. Things are progressing in the right direction, just slowly. Ben did a big day at work but insisted we go for a swim when he got home at 5pm to see the beach with his own eyes after I sent him this photo. It is perfect swimming weather and it's so nice to feel a bit lighter in the water.
12 days to go. Baby’s room. Before and after. It’s getting there :) Carina came to visit this morning with hot chocolate and cake in hand for breakfast! She can see without her glasses now after her laser eye surgery in Wednesday. So exciting. Peta and Polly came to visit and brought a gift for Baby and I. After P&P left to go to their first music class, Carina and I went shopping. I had to get some last minute things, a globe for the night light, a table runner for the top of the dresser and to change the colour of curtains for Baby’s room. After getting home, I feel asleep on the lounge. I think things are happening and Baby will be here soon. I don’t think it will last 12 more days in there!
19 days. This is the complex sleeping apparatus I designed last night so I could continue sleeping.
24 days. I thought I would try to sort some stuff out for our new little housemate. So here’s all the teeny tiny clothes. I’m nearly ready to give out an eviction notice so the little bugger can stop trying to crack my ribs! Ben is starting to get impatient. He just wants to meet baby SO bad now! Not long now though. We’ve waited all this time, we'll just have to wait a little longer for baby to get a bit fatter :)
Backtrack. 28 days. The waiting room at maternity outpatients. Even though there’s often no one here, they are always running late. Met a lovely lady today who migrated to Australia from Africa. She has four children (19-2yo) and is pregnant with her 5th baby. Works, studies nursing at uni part time, and was the most lovely person I have come across in this waiting room so far. I hope to run into her again one day so we can introduce our babies to each other. I learnt today that Ben and I will take baby home after delivery rather than going to postnatal ward, all going to plan. Bit scared coz it’s all getting very real. Where do I pick up the job description for this new job? Apparently the salary is “just love”. I’m sure it will be more than that.
38 days. Reading about what will happen when the little sprout arrives. We tried to clean the house today. I would call where we got to 'half way'. There's still a room and furniture to paint, a BabyQue to be had and my final two weeks of work. Sprout is plucking my right ribs with its foot a lot and constantly wiggling its backside.
40 days to go. We went to Bocados for a tapas dinner tonight (meatballs, scallops, patatas, pork belly and chorizo dishes) to celebrate good things coming together. We are both so happy in multi-player mode and also with our one-player games (game metaphors are especially for Ben). We ate frozen yoghurt afterwards and I realised that it is pretty much soft serve, which I'm not supposed to eat because of risk of listeria. But I had ordered by the time I remembered, so hopefully baby doesn't mind...
45 days. Banana bread and a decaf coffee for me and two smoothies to attempt to cure Ben's hangover after Kiri's wedding. In the Maccas carpark at Williamtown. Listening to a remix of Vance Joy's Riptide. Baby loves this song, always dances when I sing it, and even recognised the remix version. Fingers crossed there won't ever be any Wiggles playing in our house!
49 days. I left work at 9pm tonight. I was alone is the office, but Baby kept me in good company, dancing while I sang. I had to drive past The Del on my way home, I’d love a beer, but have waited this long, so will carry on only dreaming about the amber ale…
It's 50 days until our baby is due. This is what bed time looks like now. Ben watching something on YouTube, me checking social media, Baby wiggling like there's a rave in my belly that I'm not invited to. Can't wait to meet the little person we've made!
Ben called me to say "Look up!" and here's what I saw. It's a rainbow ring all the way around the sun! It's magic!
Read about Esther Grace Earl’s book “This Star Won’t Go Out.” I am happy that the world gets to experience such wonderful souls, and that we get to share their stories with each other. Feeling thankful and humbled. #100HappyDays
