my mother last song,
by kissesonmymuse
my mother tells me a song
it goes slow and sweet
its sickly honey trickles down
from her lips to me.
i sit in the silence
of what is left after her song
an absence of her melody
that rang all along.
but my mother has been gone
for months and more now,
i sit on the edge of her bed
awaiting her return as i vowed.
i dare not stare
at the callender or the clock
i dont let my feet tap
or my breathe sigh aloud.
i told my mother
that i would wait
so i must be patient
and must not break.
but oh the truth is, dear destiny
that my mother is long gone
she sang for me one last time
and then sang no more.
i would watch for her in older women
who pass me on the street
i would hunt for her sweet melody
in every song i meet.
my aunt tells me,
with a face so much like my mothers
that i am too caught up in her absence
and that it will do me harm.
but mother i promised
to await your lasy song goodbye
you told me that you wished
to sing to me before you die.
yet you were willing to go
unanounced and abrubt
without your last song
all i have now it the melody
of an old song.
a nightangle sings
of its little eggs,
eager awaiting her hatchling today
you told me the story
in such a honey voice
your melody is my memory
and with just that i will rejoice.
promise you, mother, i will be patient still
and await your song and relish in its bliss.
