BTV Six Sentence Sunday - TSTS Ch. ??

Progress is slow but there. Can't give poor Jonathan too much peace amirite :))

The gates opened wide at their approach, revealing a line of people waiting for them in the courtyard, as tall and still as the statues carved into the posts on either side. Bann Trevelyan stood straight and looked right at him, his hands resting on his cane. Jonathan was startled seeing him, and when he flinched this time, his mare decided she'd had enough, neighing and protesting, making him hold on tightly to the reins. Immediately, the Bann's voice made itself present in his mind. Disgrace. Can't even ride his own horse.

But the Bann didn't even sketch a reaction, steadfast in his unbearable stare. Their convoy stopped one by one, and Jonathan dismounted without further incident. He went through the greeting motions, acknowledging Nadia with a nod, and bowing to the Bann, "My lord."

It was just the same. He'd faced arrows and swords and explosions, feared for his life and the lives of others, felt brand new and changed from his time in Nevarra. But he had been a fool to think so. The same familiar cold shiver and short breath creeped back, dragging him like a low and vicious current, once again lost and fearful of what consequences might follow any of the Bann's words.

Galbert and Ser Magda greeted next, with the soldiers and then Helmut following suit. The Bann surveyed them silently, and turning his stare back to Jonathan, said, "Captain. A word."

Getting a grip on writing again is much harder than I thought to be honest so this is a little rushed. Anyway, looking forward to everyone's work!

Six Sentence Sunday

Trying to get back to some sort of posting routine, but I don’t actually have much to share.

Here’s a snippet of something - gestures vaguely towards piles of untouched WIPs.

Eliza de Vere walked into Cullen’s life quite unexpectedly, one sunny afternoon.

The daughter of an important wine merchant, whom Meredith hoped to secure as a regular benefactor to the Kirkwall Circle, Eliza had come to raise funds for a charity ball that was to take place at her parents’ estate the following month.

Meredith, ever the gracious host if it meant ingratiating herself to the Kirkwall nobility, had insisted on showing the Gallows to ‘her Ladyship’, concluding the visit with an introduction to the Knight-Captain, for reasons Cullen could not begin to fathom.

Nevertheless, he welcomed the visitor graciously, with the mild deference Meredith expected of him when meeting people of Eliza’s rank - something which never failed to make him feel like a performing show horse.

Not so much pretty as she was charming, Eliza carried herself with an air of quiet confidence only a noble birth could give, and she shook Cullen’s hand with graceful aplomb, her dark eyes studying him with interest. When she stepped back, the delicate scent of violet lingered in her wake.
