Coming out as bi (there wasn’t a word for pan that I knew of back in 1997) was no big deal for the most part. My mom was bisexual and pretty willing to talk about it and at a young age I just realized that any type of person can be beautiful. It did lose me my childhood best friend, who promptly stopped speaking to me after I told her, and had her new cheerleader best friend inform me that I was out and she was in. This was pretty small taters compared to what a lot of kids go through and it helped teach me that I just had no choice but to be myself and find my squad.
