Do you have any thoughts on how little!Trin and Dennis might interact at home, and what kind of dynamic they fall into surrounding Trinity’s regression?
in the beginning, trinity is so secretive about her regression. it comes from a place of trauma — she can’t let anyone in and risk them taking advantage of. so when dennis sees for the first time, she’s very flighty. she hides and snaps at him — trying to push him away before he can decide there’s something wrong with her. even after they talk about it, it takes time for trinity to warm up her regression being known.
but dennis, who doesn’t fully understand what’s going on, tries in his own ways to break trinity out of her shell. if she seems like she’s small, he might ask if she wants to watch tv with him, then casually suggest a kids show he thinks she might like. or he’ll ask for her help with things he knows how to do, like making boxed mac and cheese for dinner.
through these interactions, trinity is able to approach him tentatively in her regression. she can test out how he is with her small side and come to the conclusion on her own that dennis is still safe.
and once little!trinity becomes fully comfortable, she is very much like a little sister. she loves to tease & annoy him. there’s also a lot of boundary testing at the start and it definitely comes with a learning curve. but dennis adapts.
he learns he can’t tease back or trinity will immediately start crying. he also learns (through a lot of googling and scrolling on reddit threads bc let’s be real, trinity would not want to explain when she’s big) that when she does “bad” things, it isn’t fully in her control. it’s the childhood behaviors she used to get in trouble for coming to the surface. she’s trying to get a reaction to see if she can make him snap.
obviously, dennis never does, and the behaviors fizzle out as trinity’s anxiety calms down.
but on the lighter side, little!trinity has herself wrapped around dennis’ finger! whenever she wants to play, he is playing with her. even if that means he’s getting his face covered in face paint for a murder mystery game, or made up nice and glittery for a tea party with her and puppy.
another thing that really stands out with them, is that dennis never talks down to her. he never uses a baby voice or makes her feel patronized. even if he uses pet names with her, he talks to trinity like an equal. it makes trinity feel respected in her regression which is so huge for her.
they also have the occasional frequent sibling squabble (despite dennis not being regressed) over stupid things. like trinity intentionally pushing over the jenga tower while dennis is trying so carefully to move his block. this happens almost every time they play.
but seeing dennis get annoyed with her without explicit anger is very healing for trinity. it teaches her healthy family dynamics and reinforces that dennis is still her best friend, even if he’s annoyed for a minute.
(and unfortunately, it also reinforces to her that she loves to push his buttons)
