One of the first ever servant gods to be created, Tōbias and his foil Salem assisted the Giratina as gods of physics. The Giratina, who’s aspects are of reality, already had an excruciatingly complex concept to maintain as they held the very fabric together, thus the extra assistance was needed as to not completely overwhelm them. The Darkrai served to upkeep the rules of reality so that every factor of something’s existence within reality would not have to be factored to the Giratina.
... Yet, to the regular Darkrai, Tōbias, this role wasn’t enough. The idea of being nothing but an extra to another god disappointed him, at this point the gods in place were of far grander concepts, independent and revered. The idea of being overshadowed by someone assigned to be a superior did not fit with his innate ambitions. He wanted more, he wanted power, he wanted to be seen. So, when the conflict of wether or not mortality should be created was brought up, Tōbias decided to double cross his kin and aid the Arceus as he not only saw them as the most obvious victors in the situation, but also that he could use it to get what he wanted.
Thanks to his loyalty to the Arceus Tōbias was rewarded heavily, becoming an almost favourite child to the all makers. It was he who was awarded with the title of mythical first for his actions, he who helped in making suggestions to the rules which mortals would have to play by, and he who created the very concept of unconsciousness. Wanting his independence, he managed to convince the Arceus to create an entirely new concept simply so he could rule over. And thus, dreams and nightmares were created, and the aspect of nightmares fell onto the Darkrai.
... And Salem had no say in this. Salem had remained loyal to Asmodeus throughout this all, yet was conflicted heavily because of his love for his foil as they saw each other as siblings. Tōbias knew what Salem was doing, he knew his brother still talked with the one he stabbed in the back, but was *gracious* enough to never tell. He had hoped that this new independence with their own aspect would help his brother “see the light” or, in other words, embrace everything Tōbias had going for them. But, Salem didn’t. He was confused by this very prospect, a change in aspect has never happened before, but he still played along in fear that his brother would turn on him.
Tōbias’ thirst for power was never quench, and his ego ungodly inflated. He put down the other gods and would involve himself in whatever they did, gathering considerable amount of blackmail against them if he ever would need it, putting down the gods for not dedicating themselves to their aspects in a way he saw fit, and all while sucking up to the Arceus. As Arceus became further and further detached from his own creations, Tōbias seemed to be the only one he would bother to acknowledge.
Still he felt the need to inflate his ego further. In many cases of mortals praying to the gods for help in extreme circumstances, Tōbias would come to them. Typically such a thing was seen as utterly worthless to do, Tōbias himself felt no empathy for these people, yet only did so for his own benefit. And, in every case, he would gift onto them immortality without considering their circumstances. If they complained? Obviously they were just ungrateful.
As time continued on, the gods grew tired of TŌBIAS’ actions. He was the epitome of everything wrong with the Arceus’, the creator gods’ mistakes and flawed systems. It would finally come ahead that Asmodeus and his followers sought to use Tōbias as an example. Through abusing the properties of the distortion world, Salem, who specifically volunteered to do the deed, would lure out Tōbias, expose him to the properties of mortality, and strike him dead.
Tōbias the regular Darkrai was dead, remains being thrown to the mortal plain. Yet, the nebula of his soul was able to be recovered by Mephistopheles who sought to... Have fun with the god he loathed so much. He learned that he could insert the soul into a mortal host, completely overnighting the host’s soul with Tōbias’ own, and used this as his means of torture.
Tōbias would live again. Die again. Live again. Die again. Every few centuries. Never able to settle into mortal society. Never able to achieve what he once was before. And Arceus would ignore his cries.
That sure as hell didn’t stop Tōbias from trying. Seeing as mortals saw him as fucking insane when he would parade around his precious status as a god, he had to learn to become more... Discreet. He would begin work on what was essentially his own Bible, writing recollections of his godhood in a desperate attempt to convince the masses. Everytime he would die, he would pick up from where he left off, and by the end of WWII, he had completed it
... But it was at that time Tōbias had a horrific realization; he was beginning to forget. Gods are incapable of forgetting, they remember exactly details of every moment of their existence, it’s a necessity for their work. But... He was. And that deep, existential dread caused him to become even more unhinged and desperate.
By the equivalent of the 1970s Tōbias would be forced into the role of Troy White, he quickly took his leave from the man’s previous life, gathered what he could from his own Bible, and began a cult in Miami. He was able to convince some through tactics he studies and experimented with during these lives he was forced into, and hoped to achieve what he assisted the Deoxys in achieving previously: complete extinction of the human race so that he could be the last one standing and thus ascend. But it wasn’t working fast enough. He had no political power, humanity’s technology was not to that point, and it was unlikely that he could even achieve such as thing in this lifetime before he would eventually succumb to whatever death Mephistopheles threw his way. Yet, he still continues and attempted to formulate a plan to have followers identify him in any future incarnations...
That was until another cult leader by the name of Alexis, a worshipper of Asmodeus who was informed of Troy’s true status as Tōbias by Mephistopheles, would break into Troy’s church and shoot him dead and burn his Bible and any copies there of.
Tōbias status is currently unknown, wether he has been implanted into a new host is not yet known... But he will be. He always will be. Mephistopheles does not stop having his fun, that’s for damn sure.
