This year is ending on an enraging note, due to global politics, and an encouraging one - beautiful coalitions are formed across the world, creating radical movements and enforcing our beliefs that a better future is in our hands and that with solidarity and direct action, change is feasible.
We might feel that our light is powerless in the darkness of hate and death that is shrouding the world we live in. We might feel the anger that burns our heart when we witness injustice towards other human beings can't do anything against the hell that someone is living through. But if we all speak up, if we all resist together, if our voices become a chorus, our sparks can become beacons. With strength in numbers They can't ignore us.
November 25th was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (and all who identify themselves as Women).
Marches are taking place in various countries across the globe.ย My heart is with the ones happening in my home Country, Italy, that has just recorded its 102th femicide since the beginning of the year.
The brutal murder of Giulia Cecchettin, a 22-year-old engineering student from a town in the same region where Iโm from, killed by a man who claimed to * love * her, has triggered a wave of indignation and uproar across Italy.
Please, look out for all women and all who identifies themselves as women. Hold men accountable. Hold accountable that one friend that always makes inappropriate jokes, that one friend that always treat women like objects, that one friend overly possessive of his girlfriend. Talk to them. Engage in a conversation about this because they will listen, if itโs another men, if itโs a bro, a friend who tries to open their eyes. And may Giulia be the last.
