the one place they sometimes end up falling asleep – where they’re not supposed to

in people’s houses akdjaksd. she has a habit of nonchalantly walking in when nobody is home to look around (and occasionally give blessings, if in east asia), only to find a soft warm spot, usually in front of a fireplace or in someones bed, and get a little too comfy. she is a naturally light sleeper so whilst she has had some close shaves, she always manages to wake up by the sound of the occupant returning home and escape without notice.

is   your   character   bothered   by   the   sight   of   blood?     if   so,    in   what   way   ?

rei   is   not   squeamish   when   faced   with   blood .     her   approach   to   any   injury   is   clinical,    all   thoughts   conjured   at   that   moment   will   be   to   analyse   the   severity   of   the   wound   and   her   next   action .       to   her,     blood   is   no   more   repulsive   than   any   other   bodily   fluid .     it’s   completely   natural   and   not   something   one   should   be   afraid    of      (   especially   if   someone’s   life   depends   on   how   you   respond   ) .

 how   does   your   character   behave   around   people   they   dislike   ?

avoidance   at   all   costs .    the   only   time   rei   would   dislike   someone   is   if   they   are   a   threat   to   her .      distance   is   necessary   for   survival .     however,    if   she   feels   they   just   have   an   unpleasant   personality,    she   will   just   ignore   them .    simple   as   that .     she   doesn’t   waste   her   time   on   assholes .

introduction: the kitsune triplets

intro:    kitsunes,    much   like   the   average   fox,    can   produce   several   cubs    (   although   it   is   possible   for   them   to   just   have   one   ) .     the   cubs   spend   their   childhood   with   their   parents ,     then   once   the   caregiver   feels   they   have   matured   enough ,     they   leave   the   den   for   good .      it    is   not   common   for   kitsune   family   members   to   keep   in   touch ,     because   a   kitsune   journey   is   to   be   taken   alone ,    and   rei’s   family   is   no   exception .

for   the   first   100   years   of   their   life ,     the   three   sisters   cubs   lived   together .      given   that    that   childhood   is   a   confusing   and   chaotic   time   for   kitsunes ,    they   were   unable   to   form   particularly   intimate   connections   that   surpassed   survival   mode .       the   first   one   to   leave   the   den   was   姉     (   simply   ‘older   sister’   )   when   she   had   discovered   her   ability   to   fly .     she   chose   the   name   美空   miku    (    ‘beautiful   sky’   )    to   commemorate   this .     both    rei    and     妹     (    ‘  younger   sister   ’,     later   named    晴花    pronounced   haruka,   meaning   a   combination   of   ‘clear   weather’    and    ‘ flower,    blossom’    )     departed    once   they   had   mastered   shapeshifting ,    though   not   at   the   same   time .

miku,   rei   and   haruka   occasionally   cross   paths ,     but   their   meetings   are    formal   and   highly   territorial .      miku   in   particular   likes   to   think    that    the   sky   is   her   dominion ,     and    has    a    tendency   to   lash   out    at    whomever    crosses    it ,     especially    her   sisters .      rei    and    hanuka   share   the   forests    but   the   latter    is   especially   protective   of   the    blossomed   areas ,    and   the   former   has    a    particular    fondness    for    urban   regions .       rei    is    also    the   only    one    out    of    the   trio   that    who   has    ventured    outside    eastern    asia   and   embraces   the   vulnerability .        both    her   sisters   dislike    the   weakening    of    their   influence   when    they   stray   too   far   from   japan,     hanuka   more   to   do   with   a   fear   of   being   attacked   than   miku’s   obsession    with   power .

mermaids  are  known  as  ningyo  in  japanese,  but  they  are  very  different  from  the  mermaids  of  western  tradition.  ningyo  more  closely  resemble  fish  than  humans,  with  a  varying  level  of  human - like features,  ranging  from  just  an  ugly,  deformed  fish - like  face,  to  an  entire  human  torso  with  long,  bony  fingers  and  sharp  claws. 

ningyo  sightings  go  back  to  the  earliest  written  histories  of  japan.  the  flesh  of  a  ningyo  is  believed  to  grant  eternal  life  and  youth  to  those  who  eat  it,  and  thus  it  is  the  subject  of  many  folk  tales.  however,  it  carries  with  it  a  danger  that  most  people  are  not  willing  to  risk.  ningyo  can  place  a  powerful  curse  on  humans  who  try  to  wound  or  capture  them,  and  some  legends  tell  of  entire  towns  that  were  swallowed  by  earthquakes  or  tidal  waves  after  a  foolish  fisherman  brought  home  a  ningyo  in  one  of  his  catches.  while  their  grotesque  appearance  and  supernatural  powers  make  them  an  intriguing  subject,  they  are  best  avoided  at  all  costs.

i cant believe rei, an incredibly powerful kitsune spirit, falls head over heels in love with an immortal, gorgeous, spirited mermaid. rei is terrified of the sea, and nana cant always go on land, but their love for each other transcends those obstacles. every once in a while they meet and have cute little dates by the shore with gifts. nana tells her tales of the big blue sea, one territory rei is astutely unfamiliar with. she falls in love with how her eyes seems to glisten when she describes the feeling of the waves on her scales and the salt on her skin. the only time she isn’t afraid of the sea is when she is with her .    ❪  @ningyio  ❫
