The above graphic, passed along by the Huffington Post‘s Laura Bassett, was put together by the Enliven Project using data from Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey and FBI reports. It drives home extremely well the fact that false rape accusations are exceedingly rare, despite what media reports might suggest. Almost as rare are cases when rapists actually go to jail.

The More or Less Legit List of Victorian Lesbian Themed Readings. Part I: Fiction.

So a few millenia ago I got asked by lostinmusicswaves to make a rec list of books about Victorian lesbians, and because how do you life I am going to answer now. I tried to remember as many as I could, but there are not many, at least that I know of. Also, for the ones of you who get into that kind of detail, this is going to be more a XIXth century thing than a Victorian thing, meaning the Victorian Era starts in 1937, so technically I’ll be kicking some Regency and some pre-Regency late-Georgian too. Also, I’ll be focusing on English stuff (because Victorian, you know), but some North-American thingies may happen in this list, too. And after this history lesson no one cared about, let’s roll.
