Ever since my first swipe, I’ve had an unbreakable bond with Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE Satin Radiance Lipstick in 1 Le Rouge. Likewise, once I noticed how effectively Benefit Cosmetics Erase Paste Brightening Concealer covered my dark circles, I’ve collected my fair share of empty pots over the years. This product loyalty is a result of putting in the challenging work of finding the right shades that work for me, so I’ve been a little hesitant to take the time to explore possible new products. So you can imagine my delight when I found out the Sephora + Pantone Color iQ technology has expanded to lipstick and concealer. After its launch, I immediately made my way in store to try out the new service to explore potential new favorites, and I outlined how it works below so you can, too. JESSICA VELEZ
1. A cast member uses the handy reader on my cheek, neck, and forehead to collectively read my unique Pantone SkinTone color and number. The result? I’m a 3Y02! I learn this number works for all three categories: foundation, lip, and concealer.
2. On the in-store touch screen, I select the concealer category first, and from there, can choose between face and eye concealer. I notice some products work in both categories. I can even specify if I want brightening benefits in the formula.
3. Yves Saint Laurent TOUCHE ÉCLAT – Radiant Touch in 1.5 Radiant Silk catches my eye, and the cast member applies it so I can see how well it blends into my skin. It couldn’t have been more perfect for my light complexion. And, if my skintone changes with the seasons, I can easily select my number’s neighboring shades from the same color family.
4. Back on the touch screen, I tap on the lip section and get to select from seven different shade categories: nude, pink, coral, red, berry, universal, and unconventional. In the unconventional section, I’m matched with shades like green and black.
5. I select pink, and from there, am able to filter results by brand, finish, formulation, and sun protection. Once I specify those details, I’m matched with Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Soft Rose, and the cast member applies the creamy lipstick in the soft shade. Surprisingly, the shade makes my freckles really pop.
6. Finally, I email all my results to myself straight from the screen. This way, I don’t have to come back to the store to shop the colors that look best on me—I can do it online.
