ALWAYS ALWAYS thinking abt kevin not immediately telling wymack hes his dad but not because of his whole “i wanted to protect him from the mafia” spiel and more so as a sort of self defense. like that’s his father but beyond media appearances and games kevin has no idea who he is. in not telling him, kevin has the advantage of figuring out if wymack truly is that martyr that everyone is painting him out to be. he can observe how wymack treats his players, if he is unnecessarily cruel, if he is - essentially - like tetsuji.
the protection thing certainly plays part in it too, but for the first time kevin has this crucial piece of information and decides to withhold it from wymack instinctively, probably in part because he’s terrified that his father will be just another adult figure that fails him. he can’t come out with it on day one - their relationship is built up over months and months of establishing trust.
