Okay I want to test something. Can someone please reblog this post with a text addition, and a second person then reblog that addition with another one?
Happy to oblige.
have another !
Okay, so, about what exactly is going on with the new update:
Is the note counter separated by individual reblogs on the chain? Not as of now. Only separated by comments / reblogs / likes.
Does the original poster still get the notes? Yes, I got notified of both reblogs.
So what's the actual change? From what I can tell, there's only one, and it is terrible. If you look into the reblogs, reblogs with comment, or reblogs with comment or tags, you can ONLY see individual reblogs from the specific addition to the chain you are on. So, if you see my last post, you wouldn't see anything. If you go onto @smallerontheoutside's addition, only my reblog and @communistdragon's addition about not getting notified about my second comment (which is normal) would show up. If you go to @communistdragon's first reblog on this chain, only @smallerontheoutside's response to that would show up. If you go up to my original post, only @communistdragon's first reblog shows up.
This is terrible. This allows you to only see the reblog chain you're already on, and only the responses to that that are exactly one reblog down. Nothing else. It eliminates the possibility to look through the tags/notes/reblogs on a post, which is a common feature that lets people know what the general responses to a post are or find a post providing image ID or, really, anything that helps keep posts alive. This is Tumblr killing itself.
The original post from @staff that was reblogged by @changes was worded terribly and I've seen a lot of confusion about what exactly this change entails in the comments and in different reblog chains that are being circulated (the one's I've seen all came to me through @evilwizard, who I hope doesn't mind getting tagged on this partiular post). That probably leads to people complaining about the wrong thing, which I can only assume will lead to more complaints being ignored.
In conclusion:
Currently, there is only one note counter per post.
Currently, both the OP and the person whose reblog you're commenting / reblogging / liking from get notified, just like before.
Currently, you can still see likes and comments coming from elsewhere in the reblog chain, but all other reblogs are being hidden.
Note: this experiment was conducted on the browser version without any browser extensions enabled.

This is not news for us.
My family and my four children are living in a fragile shelter in the cold. We are trying to rent a small warm place to protect our kids. This is our real life, not a headline.
If you can help or share, it truly matters.
We don’t need sympathy.
We need a warm place for our children.
That’s the truth.
We are trying to raise enough to rent a small warm room for our children. If you can donate or share, this could change our daily survival.

Israel is building 48 military sites throughout the Gaza Strip, reducing the area of the Gaza Strip to less than half its current size, and Israeli government officials are planning to build a settlement in the northern Gaza Strip.
Since the so-called ceasefire, Israel has established more than 48 military sites in Gaza City on the homes of displaced civilians. Israel has not stopped the war; rather, it kills and commits massacres every day, and every day it advances the yellow line it drew, thereby occupying more than half of the Gaza Strip.
For two years the war hasn't stopped. When a ceasefire was supposedly reached—a sham—thousands of people died, and they continue to die daily. The crossings remain closed, and the goods, supplies, and aid that are allowed in are sold at exorbitant prices. Israel hasn't stopped the war. We are still suffering. Please help us. Please donate to us. Please.

This cover letter post on askamanger.com. A job interview guide written by Alison Green, who runs askamanager.

Alison Green’s advice works.
Alison Green got me all my interviews from 2012 onward, I am reasonably sure.
Alison Green is basically my life guide.
Mine too - she was my most visited website for the first few years of my working career, and I cannot emphasise enough how much her advice helped me navigate how to behave in a work environment. You name it, she has an answer for it. Definitely a life hack.

here’s this figure that is vulnerable and easily abused and what’s admirable about it is that it doesn’t fight back and it doesn’t try to defend itself and it’s suffering is noble because it just sits there and takes it. pain is beautiful when you surrender to pain, suffering is godly when you don’t question or try to protect yourself and survival is ugly… like it is just me or is anybody else’s fucking skin crawling rn!!
