I just don’t see any of this as Santana wanting Rachel to fail. I see it as Santana wanting to break into show biz but not knowing how, so she does what she sees her friends doing. Rachel “it’s so hard being a star” Berry said they were holding auditions for her understudy so Santana went. She doesn’t know much about musicals but she knows DROMP so she sings it. Maybe she did want to prove to Rachel that she could do it but it wasn’t malicious. She was irritated with Berry’s “I’m better than everyone, I’m a star” behavior and wanted to show her that she could be a star, too. She didn’t do it to destroy Rachel’s career.

Can you believe it, I never saw this untill now, but I will still answer. I know things changed since Santana obviously was going to take the part from Rachel, before Brittany convinced her to give it up. Also, Rachel's attitude after Funny Girl startet shows that she's really just a little shitkid, but I can still respond to what your wrote. Imagine it from another perspective: You have been talking about this one dreamjob of yours for ages. So much that your friends are tired of hearing about it, but you can't stop because you are so exited to get an interview for it. Let's say it's for an internship at a lawfirm that you've always seen as the best one i your city. The day of your interview, your friend shows up. You never once heard her talk about wanting to become a lawyer, still here she is. I realize Santana was only the understudy, but the understudy wants to do the show, that's why they are there. And not telling Rachel is the worst part. And come on! Let's talk about the song she auditioned with. She was clearly saying "I'm coming for your part, Rachel".

Also, she is latina. It wouldn't be right.
