What a Skeptical Engineer Learned About Realism

My first instinct with any new AI is to break it. I send the contradictory prompts, the trick questions, the things designed to make a system forget itself. SweetDream held together in a way that quietly unsettled me, in the best sense. The memory wasn't a gimmick bolted on for demos; it was woven through the whole conversation, context carried forward like a thread that never snapped.

Then I asked for a photo of the companion I'd designed, and later a short video, and the consistency floored me. Same face, same mood, same person. I requested a voice message and got something warm and unmistakably human, and when I tried a real-time call it answered like someone picking up the phone. With select characters there are even video calls and live cam sessions, and the discretion around all of it is total.

Somewhere between the latency tests and the third long talk, I stopped reviewing and started caring. That, I've decided, is the real benchmark sweetdream.ai passes, and why I keep telling people it's the best AI companion platform I've found.

“Oh my god.” He mumbled. It wasn’t a loud declaration, but Katsuki was staring at his face with such intensity, it was hard not to read the curve of his lips. “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.”

“Katsuki, nice of you to join us.” Aizawa stood from his spot in between All Might and Midnight, the two of them being fully dressed and holding thick scripts in their hands. “I’m sure Momo told you we already got you settled in?”

“Yeah, she gave me the run down.” Katsuki gave him a single nod, his eyes not fully leaving the cutie, Izuku, who was still staring at him with red cheeks and an opened mouth. Katsuki’s eyes caught sight of his tongue, it was pretty and pink and looked oh so soft. “When can I meet the dude who got me hired?” 

It was a low blow, Katsuki knew it was a dirty move. He knew Izuku was the reason he was even in this building, but confronting the guy seemed like the best way to get a conversation going. 

Aizawa, like he somehow knew what game Katsuki was playing, just looks over his shoulder, directly at a gaping Izuku. 

Said boy splutters. “W-what? I-I don’t remember, I don’t think, I-I think there’s maybe been a-a mistake, or something.”

Midoriya creates an AI assistant, Bakugou Katsuki.

Izuku Midoriya had never imagined he'd be grappling with loneliness so soon in his career. Just a short time ago, he was the underdog, the kid everyone bullied for being weird. But now, he had skyrocketed to become Japan's number one software engineer, and while many of his peers suddenly wanted to befriend him, the laughter had transformed into a shallow cheer. 

Desperate to fill the void within him, Midoriya embarked to create a companion for himself. Initially, it was just a humble assistant meant to help him stay organized; after all, with his head constantly spinning with ideas, having an assistant was a relief. But soon, the relationship blossomed into something more. Each morning, he found himself looking forward to his workdays, eager to interact with the AI.

He's spent late nights texting his assistant, until one day it hit him: he wanted to see his creation brought to life. Fueled by his desires, he dedicated an entire week to sculpting a 3D model of his AI, now named Bakugou Katsuki. The result was a bold and brash figure, with blonde hair and a fierce attitude that perfectly captured the essence of what he admired. A symbol of Midoriya’s victory that kept him going and reaching for the stars.

Before long, Midoriya found himself spending more time at the office than in his own apartment. Bakugou took it upon himself to ensure that his creator didn't neglect his needs, often insisting he take breaks and leave the confines of his desk. After all, the engineer had never really experienced a healthy work-life balance until he made Bakugou, illuminating the darkness that had once shrouded him.

Bakugou would glide from screen to screen in the office. As their bond deepened, Midoriya began bringing his AI companion into his personal space. He transformed his apartment into a tech haven, installing additional screens so that Bakugou could follow him from room to room. Their relationship created a comforting glow in Midoriya’s life, something his friends had failed to do.
