Here are the rest of my Fruit Bats! First is a Queensland Tube-nosed Fruit Bat on a Guava Tree and the other is a Black Flying Fox over Melaleuca Trees. I had a lot of fun with this series and trying out gouache for the first time!!

Both are traditional watercolors with ink and gouache done on cold-press watercolor paper cut to 4"x6".

This week is a Big-Eared Flying Fox and a flowering coconut tree! One of my favorite parts of doing these illustrations is getting to learn new things - I had no idea that coconut trees flowered!

I recently started a series of illustrations with different fruit bats next to what they like to eat!

Here are a Spectacled Flying Fox and a Fig Tree, an Indian Flying Fox and a Mango Tree, and a Gambian Epauletted Fruit Bat and an African Locust Bean Tree!

Rath and Fenrir Sketches

I'll be posting sketches I've done on Saturdays! Usually done on the spare paper I have after cutting out the pieces for my other illustrations. Here is Fenrir and Rath from my PearlHeart series of books!

Rath is the captain of the sailing ship PearlHeart and Fenrir is his first mate + navigator. Fenrir was a somewhat new addition to the story, but Rath has been in it from the very beginning - I could draw this man in my sleep haha Fenrir's design has been pretty consistent, but Rath's hair used to be black (and his character was WAY different). He's always had freckles and green eyes, though!
