Starting a small talk about the weather is too overrated, boring even. Instead, we should start talking about that man we saw in Lyons who got guillotined and describe in excruciating detail what he felt in his final hours.
Mrs. Yepanchina: So, Prince, you've been to Switzerland. What was it like there? The alps and the lakes must've been breathtaking. What marvelous years you had living in a peaceful village surrounded by the beautiful landscape.
Prince Myshkin: Oh, yes, that. There was also this donkey I saw. I heard it hee-hawing when I was having bouts of my illness. My fits were agonizing but the sound of that donkey cleared my head. You know, donkeys are the most useful, hard-working, strong, patient, and long-suffering animals. I began to like the whole of Switzerland because of that donkey. Donkeys make me happy.

i'm thinking about charlotte brontë spending her last years editing and publishing her sisters' writings and about christopher tolkien dedicating his life to the protection and meticulous reconstruction his father's life's work and about johanna van gogh publishing the letters between vincent and theo that would propel vincent van gogh into fame because she knew how much her husband had loved his brother, and about how so often art isn't just a reflection of the artist's mind and skills but a testament to the fact that they were loved

we're over halfway through 2026. what are everyone's most beloved books of the year so far?
i like to pretend i already died and asked god to send me back to earth so i can swim in lakes again and see mountains and get my heart broken and love my friends and cry so hard in the bathroom and go grocery shopping 1,000 more times. and that i promised i would never forget the miracle of being here

snoopy reads the brothers karamazov!
The most unrealistic part during Ippolit Kirillovitch's speech was Mitya managed to shut himself up. He didn't sass, he didn't cry out, he didn't lunge at the prosecuror. I KNOW he's seething with rage. Fetyukovich must have done something to keep Mitya from stranggling the prosecutor.
Finishing The Brothers Karamazov left me in a daze. All I could remember is a bunch of people living off of spite, excessive guilt, and constant threats to kill themselves.
It's funny how the TBK narrator is supposed to tell the story like it's hot tea but the ending was incomplete. What do you mean we're leaving it off just at the plans for Mitya's escape? Where's the rest of it? That's not how gossip works.
