25 BCE-Julia bowed her head in honour to the newly restored Princess of Egypt.
Julia’s son Pompey and brother, Caesaron, had taken Rome from Octavian - and the Ptolemies were re-established as the rulers of Egypt.
Julia was quite fond of Selene, and took on a sort of motherly role toward her. She waved for the Princess to sit beside her.
“Clearly as you know, before Octavian was taken down, you had been betrothed to Juba, and promised to be the Queen of Mauretania.” Caesar’s daughter smiled softly, her eyes sparkling with sympathy. “I can quite tell, you are in love with him. But now that Egypt is your family’s one again…do you plan on marrying King Caesarion, by custom?”
Her gaze shifted to the woman who had appeared beside her, a small smile gracing her full lips as she nodded in return. A sign of respect she showed to few Romans, Julia being the most common exception.
It was a joyous time, her family was restored to the throne of Egypt, Ptolemies would once more rule, no Roman would ever tarnish their land by thinking it their own. The victory had brought a certain joy to her which she had not felt for some time now.
When she posed her question Selene fell silent, unsure of what to say. She had given it much thought, she was the daughter of history's most famous lovers, to marry for duty seemed to tarnish such legacy. Yet, a queen did what was best for her people, something her mother had at times neglected in her love for her father. She had no clue which to choose, love or duty. And she feared having guilt and regret resting on her shoulders, guilt for abandoning her family, guilt for rejecting a man she loved. And regret the moment she would have to know that another sat beside the man she loved so dearly.
"My brother has yet to approach me regarding such a match. Since it was never officially announced by our mother while she lived, I, I shall proceed on for the time being and should my brother ask for my hand," she fought the bile that rose in her throat at the thought of it, "Then I shall make my choice."
