I really enjoy listening to klezmer music.
On old Yiddish klezmer music: and here I thought rappers made a lot of songs about their mothers.
Alexander Olshanetsky’s Orkester - “Voyl iz der Mammen” (1927, From Avenue A to the Great White Way)
Title even translates to “Mother is Good” which is wonderful in how straightforward it is. I’ve been catching up on my own beautifully goofy heritage with a lot of early 20th century Ashkenazi music recently, and it’s a good, weird time.
Is it just me, or does pretty much every culture (with, at most, maybe two exceptions) go, “Oh, well WE love our mothers! That’s OUR stereotype!”
A very nice Serbian kolo from one of Serbia’s most formidable players, Radojke Zivkovic :)
Absolutely incredible rendition of this famous piece.
That moment when you feel like you’re ready to just put the instrument down and give up. Probably the best rendition of this popular Finnish folk song. Enjoy :)
One of my favorites. Everyone is sort of sitting around..until they start to realize how amazing the band is♥

A beautiful interpretation of Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel. Going on the List of songs to learn :)
Hailing from Toronto, Canada, it’s the Lemon Bucket Orchestra with Hutsul Melodies!
“Every year, on the last Sunday of the last week before Easter fasting, children in the village Lozovik participate in the carnival, called “Bele poklade”. It could be translated like White carnival, because it is organized at the end of the White week, the week in which it is forbidden to eat meet, but dairy products and eggs can be eaten. After this week, it is not allowed to eat anything of this. This carnival has its roots in old pagan customs and it is now an example of their partial syncretism with christianity. There are several symbolic meanings of this carnival. First, it is the end of the cold period and people try to show their respect to the cult of the Sun and to ask nature forces for a good weather and good conditions for agriculture. Also, lots of noise and shouting and colorful masks is a good way to banish evil demons. At the end of the carnival, people jump over a fire to clean themselves and the air of all the negativity and to scare witches. During a day masked children are going through the village, shouting and making noise, asking villagers for sweets and eggs. Serbia, Lozovik, 17.03.2013. From the film Latcho Drom, where the band makes a special appearance.
Perhaps their most well-known song among their repetoire. Enjoy :D
Perhaps their most well known song, God Bless the Ottoman Empire :D Enjoy!
