Another party bee.

Well, the semester has wound down to a close. Stressful as it was, I still manage to scrape by without failing anything.

There was quite a bit more success on the side of Dizzy though. We have our 3rd Dizzy Arts show on May 30th, Whompus Cats and I are djing a fashion show (and it's afterparty) next week.

I am a busy bee. Partying all the time.

Too many things happenign for me to be posting regularly on tumblr. That's dumb.

I should be back in the next week or so with a set of regular posts.

Been working with old high school friends from Dubai to pull some international shit together. Ok...maybe it's not THAT cool. We're just working on a record together.

We've got this next Dizzy Arts show on the 30th and the line up is killer.

Yea. I'm excited.

My good friend Max did a post about my recent remix of Baton Rouge based band, England in 1819. Damnnnnnnn. Life is good.

Well so the RED release show was a success, or at least I thought it was. 

Jeff and Blake had a great time dancing their asses off, as did I. All the Dizzy artists killed it and performed far better than I anticipated. I was proud to share the stage with them.

In my own set I was disappointed in my song choice, I felt as though it was fairly underwhelming compared to everyone else that played, but oh well, I still had a fun as hell time!

Woot Woot! Show poster!

We've been working our asses off preparing for this release. It's all finally online for pre-order, and now we're just getting our set's together for this show Friday. I hope it's a party.

I plan to bring the party. Do you?

Some of my friends from my old high-school put this all together. I love it. They took my pathetic attempt and turned it into something incredible. I am really proud to know such talented designers.

Funny story... Andre actually did the artwork for my Adam and the Apple project years ago. Both he and I have come quite a ways in our artistic endeavors.

Also... PSL and I played in a band together in high school. I tried to convince her to sing all the time, but she wasn't having it. Even though her voice is killer. Maybe one day....

I wish I had drawn this....

But it was drawn on my notebook paper, with my pencil....so it's basically mine right? Whompus Cats and I were discussing the logistics of making a 3d animation for our EGOTRP idea. Except we had an expert with us this time. He envisioned it far greater than I had. So this is his rough sketch while chatting with us.

Pretty dandy. I'm excited. If this thing were projected behind me while I performed I think I would be honored?

Rough Design Idea for Pomology So I am new to design so I just made a rough version of our Dizzy Records compilation. People said it looked like MS Paint:( Oh well! I like it.

EGOTRP

This is EGOTRP, he is an alien. As you can see, he previously appeared to be a mayan/aztec/somekindofancientculture temple. All the ancient pyramids are basically just dormant alien super villains that planned to wake up later and eat us all.

Well at least that's the concept behind the EGOTRP project that Whompus Cats and I are working on. We wanted to create music that would be the sound track to a world-domination-seeking super villain.

My computer had died because I left my charger at a DJ gig over the weekend so I was forced to doodle for hours to entertain myself. I was hardly upset about that. This is the result. EGOTRP has been an idea in our minds for a while now, but we started making some steps forward with it last night. I'm excited.

I hope someone else finds this piece as amusing as I do.

zombieapple&ALIENWORM

This is some real life stuff here man. But really, I was originally trying to make cover art for our upcoming Dizzy Records release. Ended up just turning into a doodle for my amusement and practice.

I also did spend a silly amount of time on it. You can tell by all the eraser marks. I want to see if I can color it now. Maybe I'll update later with newer pictures.

rawr. Some girl at a Starbucks asked me to draw a dinosaur instead of my signature. I cracked under pressure and drew a pregnant camel instead. This is not that dino though. Anyways. We put out a Dizzy Records sampler today. I'm excited to hear what people think of the direction I've taken with my music. We are working hard to have more stuff officially released by March 1st. This was a last minute drawing, but I had to stick to the routine of finishing at least one everyday. Building those good habits bro. Show in two days. I'm nervous, but excited nonetheless. Gonna drop new tracks and pump up the jams. I wanna be remembered like dinosaurs. I want people millennia from now to dig up my bones and put them on display. Weird, right?

It looks like he has a mask on, but never fear, it’s just my amateur artistic impression of my KluSlim logo.

I spent a lot of time yesterday finishing up tracks for my album. Chopped up some samples from a Debbie Deb track that turned out beyond my expectations.

One of my close friends gave me some advice which he found helpful, and that he thought could help me. “If music [or any medium of art for that matter] is a language, you should try to speak in as few words as possible.”

This mentality has rung true with my recent work. Sampling single syllables to create melodies or rhythms has been a recent fascination of mine. I like cutting up previously recorded vocals, and then reordering them to say what I really mean.

Basically, I make my music by twisting other peoples words. I like that idea.

Alien.

Although it seems obvious, today I really realized how differently musicians view their own mistakes. I've been forcing myself to expand to other mediums of expression (such as this) and that is one of the lessons it has taught me. In a conversation with a friend this afternoon, I showed him a few rough drafts of my new material, he exclaimed, "Why haven't you put this out yet?" Being so close to the material, sometimes it is hard for me to take the step back, accept my mistakes, and just move on. With these doodles I have been forcing myself to do just that. I like to consider myself a pretty objective critic, but I now realize that this is an impossible task.

I frequently quote the saying "perfect is the enemy of good," but I sometimes forget to take it to heart. Artists are loved for their effort and their mistakes. After all this effort, I now need to allow myself to make a few mistakes. I see myself as an alien, but I could be wrong.

Btw. This alien was originally intended to be an apple.

Who am I? No metaphysical tone intended. I was really just asking the question to set myself up to explain this doodle. "Keep looking up. Sometimes life is messy." My mother told me that once. Well a couple times actually, but never worded quite that way. When I came up with the name KluSlim, I was going through an obsession of simplifying things in my life. It became my personal mantra, so what a more fitting way to remember it than by embodying it as the title for my artistic works. I never understood the graffiti thing of repeatedly painting your own name. I feel like I draw one word and I am already thinking of the next challenge to tackle. Hmmm which letters will cause me the most stress to draw? I always end up picking those, even when I don't mean to. Oh well. The "s" in this doodle pisses me off. Luckily the camera angle doesn't reveal my top secret DJ technique. Plus, I don't think my chicken scratch is legible.

This is that customary first post awkwardness. Hey non-existent readers. Welcome to my graveyard of silly musings. I have a suspicion I may forget to update this. This is my attempt to focus on rounding my artistic talents. Sum up my day, post a doodle, make a corny joke. Who knows. But it's scary.
